Anime aimed at young boys, often called ‘shonen,’ is the most popular type of anime out there. These shows are famous for their exciting action and captivating stories, but they often struggle to deliver satisfying endings. While many shonen anime have disappointing conclusions, a few stand out as exceptions, with creators who managed to craft endings that feel complete and please their audience.
Hunter x Hunter 2011 Ending
- Final Arc: 13th Hunter Chairman Election Arc
I’m a huge fan of Hunter x Hunter, and it’s still going strong as a manga! We’re currently at Chapter 410, and honestly, I don’t see it wrapping up anytime soon. It’s a little bittersweet, though, because the author, Togashi, has actually shared some potential endings due to his health challenges. He’s been pretty open about things, and it’s fascinating to think about where the story could go.
Even though the Hunter x Hunter manga is still ongoing, many fans consider the 2011 anime’s ending to be the most satisfying conclusion to the story so far. The anime finished adapting the story after the Chairman Election Arc, as there wasn’t much more source material available. While this ending left some questions unanswered and storylines unexplored, it felt complete, especially because Gon finally achieved his goal of meeting his father, Ging. It’s a memorable anime finale that resonated with fans and remains a highlight of the 2010s. Of course, fans are still hoping to see how the manga eventually concludes and then potentially be adapted into a future anime, but that’s likely a long way off.
My Hero Academia
- Final Arc: Final War Arc
The popular manga and anime series, My Hero Academia, concluded in 2024 after captivating audiences throughout the 2010s and 2020s. The ending, created by Kohei Horikoshi, initially received mixed reactions from fans, particularly the decision to have the main character, Izuku Midoriya, lose his special ability. However, many felt this ultimately provided a logical and satisfying conclusion to his story.
Horikoshi later added to the original ending of My Hero Academia, giving fans a more satisfying conclusion. He did this by providing Izuku with a special suit of armor that allowed him to return to being a Pro Hero, ultimately bringing the series to a well-rounded close.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
- Final Arc: N/A
Both Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia concluded in 2024, but the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen received a lot of criticism from fans. The author, Gege Akutami, unexpectedly dropped a key storyline element before finishing the manga, and many character developments felt rushed or unresolved. There was hope that the sequel series, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, could provide a more satisfying conclusion.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was a popular, short manga continuation that ran from late 2025 to early 2026. It told the story of Yuta and Maki’s grandchildren battling the Simurians, with the welcome return of Yuji and a peaceful resolution for all the characters. Many fans felt it was a stronger and more satisfying conclusion than the original series.
Demon Slayer
- Final Arc: Sunrise Countdown Arc
While Demon Slayer isn’t famous for its complex plot, the author, Koyoharu Gotouge, managed to create a satisfying conclusion that wrapped up all the storylines. The final arc, called the Sunrise Countdown Arc, featured a desperate battle between Muzan and the Hashira, along with other characters, in a final attempt to save humanity.
This story arc had a lot riding on it, and the battle itself was truly spectacular. The author skillfully crafted the downfall of the seemingly invincible villain. While the battle came at a cost, with many characters losing their lives, those who remained were given a rewarding conclusion. This ending was particularly well-done, as it’s common for creators to make villains too powerful, leaving readers with a less-than-satisfying resolution.

Fire Force
- Final Arc: Epilogue arc
Fire Force is a Shonen series packed with unexpected twists. While fans knew it came from the creator of Soul Eater, the connection between the two shows was a surprise to most. The ending of Fire Force was particularly shocking, revealing a universe reset and essentially showing how the world of Soul Eater came to be.
The Fire Force anime has finished its run, completing the story that fans of the Shonen genre have come to love. The series delivered a truly satisfying ending for Shinra, which is a great accomplishment considering how often anime and manga struggle to stick the landing.
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 6
- Final Arc: NA
I’ve been watching JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure for a while now, and it really stands out. The series is broken up into different parts, and each one focuses on a new protagonist and their enemies. While Araki’s JoJo has a lot of great endings, I think the conclusion of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 6: Stone Ocean is the most unforgettable.
In Stone Ocean, we follow Jolyne’s journey. Although she ultimately loses to Pucci and seemingly dies, the ending feels hopeful. A new version of Jolyne exists in a different universe, and her connection with Emporio was especially touching for viewers. Jolyne’s story also concluded the initial overarching narrative of JoJo, paving the way for a completely fresh setting and story beginning with Part 7.
Fullmetal Alchemist
- Final Arc: Promised Day Arc
Many consider Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood to have one of the best endings in anime and manga history. Created by Hiromu Arakawa, this popular series consistently ranks among the highest-rated of all time. Unlike many other action-focused anime, Fullmetal Alchemist always felt more realistic, and the final battle against Father, the leader of the Homunculi, provided a truly satisfying conclusion.
The way the characters’ stories wrapped up was incredibly rewarding, and many beloved couples officially became a part of the story. Right now, it feels like a truly perfect shonen anime with an amazing ending that’s hard to beat. Fullmetal Alchemist provided a fantastic conclusion to Edward and Alphonse’s journey and finally defeated the villainous Homunculi. Because of this, the ending will always be considered one of the best ever.
