Throughout the One Piece series, the creator Eiichiro Oda has frequently featured characters with ice-based abilities. Many characters across the expansive Grand Line wield these powers, and they manifest in diverse ways. Some, like Kuzan with his Ice-Ice Fruit, are highly specialized, while others, such as Nusjuro with his ice slashes, have more unique applications. These ice powers have proven to be a compelling element of One Piece, and their users are likely to be central figures in the story’s final arc, receiving even more attention as the series concludes.
Lindbergh
- Ice Powers: Cool Shooter
- Affiliation: Revolutionary Army
Lindbergh is a notable commander in the Dragon Revolutionary Army, specifically leading the South Army. He first appeared during the Reverie Arc of One Piece, and quickly demonstrated the power and skill that earned him his important role.
Lindbergh is a mink who uses advanced technology rather than a Devil Fruit power. Many viewers may not realize he can also create ice. He wields a weapon called the Cool Shooter, which fires freezing beams. While not the most powerful ice ability, it’s still useful in many situations.

Brook
- Ice Powers: Devil Fruit (Chill of the Underworld)
- Affiliation: Straw Hat Pirates
Brook is the musician of the Straw Hat Pirates. He experienced a heartbreaking past, losing all of his friends. After his own death, his Devil Fruit power, the Yomi Yomi no Mi, activated. This fruit allowed him to return to life and granted him the ability to manipulate souls, which he combines with his swordsmanship and freezing attacks.
Brook can instantly freeze opponents with attacks like his Soul Solid Attack. He does this by covering his sword with his soul’s energy and the Chill of the Underworld. Brook’s abilities are still developing, and we might see even more powerful freezing techniques from him in the future, especially during the Elbaf arc.
Yamato
- Ice Powers: Devil Fruit (Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami)
- Affiliation: Wano, Straw Hat Pirates Ally
Yamato is the child of one of the strongest pirates, Kaido. It’s no surprise, then, that Yamato is incredibly powerful, mastering all three types of Haki and possessing a rare and potent Devil Fruit called the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami. This Mythical Zoan fruit allows Yamato to transform into the wolf deity of Wano, a being known for its immense ice-based abilities – some of the strongest seen in the One Piece world.
Viewers have witnessed Yamato using their abilities against Kaido, even managing to neutralize Kaido’s powerful Boro Breath with their own Ice Breath. Yamato is expected to be important in the upcoming final arc, and when they reappear, they’ll likely be even more formidable. If Yamato fully awakens their Devil Fruit powers, their ice abilities will become even stronger.
Kuzan
- Ice Powers: Devil Fruit (Hie Hie no Mi)
- Affiliation: Marines (Formerly), Blackbeard Pirates
Kuzan, formerly known as Admiral Aokiji, is widely considered the most recognizable character with ice-based abilities in One Piece. This is due to his Devil Fruit, the Hie Hie no Mi – literally the ‘Chill-Chill Fruit’ – which grants him uniquely powerful and specialized control over ice.
Kuzan can both manipulate and transform into ice. He’s demonstrated incredible ice powers before, like the ‘Ice Age’ technique, where he completely froze an ocean for seven days. His battle with Garp proved just how strong he is. It’s also believed that the perpetually frozen, snowstorm-covered half of Punk Hazard is a display of his awakened abilities.
Saint Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro
- Ice Powers: Yokai (Bakotsu)
- Affiliation: World Government, Five Elders
Nusjuro is one of the Five Elders, and though he’s been part of the story for a while, we’ve only recently seen what he can do. He possesses the Yokai powers of the Bakotsu, which appear to give him control over ice.

Like Brook, Nusjuro’s sword attacks have a freezing effect. It’s strange because his slashes don’t always cut – instead, they completely freeze opponents solid. He can even inflict internal damage with these icy attacks. When he fights seriously, he’s a truly remarkable fighter to watch.
God of War
- Ice Powers: Ratatoskr
- Affiliation: Elbaf
A new character called the God of War has appeared in the Elbaf arc of One Piece. This character is believed to have lived at the same time as Nika, possibly in the very first world. The God of War was likely an Ancient Giant and is still worshipped on the island of Elbaf today. Although the God of War doesn’t seem to have any ice powers, his companion, Ratatoskr, does.
Legend says Ratatoskr battled alongside Nika in a great fight long ago. When the God of War died, Ratatoskr’s spirit lived on inside Ragnir, turning it into an ice-powered weapon. While details about the God of War are scarce, it’s evident he was as powerful and significant as Nika.
Loki
- Ice Powers: Weapon (Ragnir)
- Affiliation: Elbaf
Loki, also known as the Accursed Prince, is a very strong character in One Piece who controls ice. His power comes from a rare and mythical Devil Fruit called the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr.
Similar to the character God of War, Loki can control ice thanks to a being called Ratatoskr. For Loki, this power comes from his hammer, Ragnir. Loki gained Ragnir’s respect and trust, and together they’ve become one of the most powerful pairs in One Piece. While they haven’t fully demonstrated their combined strength yet, the ongoing battle against Imu could give them the opportunity to do so soon. Loki might use a combination of ice, lightning, and even fire to inflict significant damage.
