Over recent years, few television series have gripped audiences and shaped pop culture as much as Amazon Prime Video’s animated superhero show, Invincible, a captivating blend of captivating storylines, humorous dialogue, and adrenaline-pumping action scenes. The series follows the teenage superhero Mark Grayson, also known as Invincible, who stands as Earth’s final line of defense against the Viltrumites. However, Mark grapples with challenges from friends, family, and relentless villains, which contribute to Invincible‘s endearing appeal and widespread popularity.
Among the top-tier superhero TV series on the air right now, “Invincible” is often likened to other shows with comparable elements. There are numerous superhero programs that can rival the quality and enjoyment offered by “Invincible.
7. Creature Commandos (2024-Present)
DC Superhero Squad Made Up Of Convicts
Kick-starting James Gunn’s leadership in the DCU was an animated series called “Creature Commandos“, which centered around a team of superheroes, but with an unusual twist: they were all dangerous prisoners. Similar to the widely acclaimed and prized Suicide Squad, the Creature Commandos were a ragtag group of monstrous outcasts assembled by Amanda Waller for tasks that were too risky or unconventional for traditional human (and non-human) superheroes.
Packed with witty, contemporary humor and a diverse cast of engaging and lovable characters, the comic series “Creature Commandos” can’t help but draw comparisons to shows such as “Invincible“.
6. Peacemaker (2022-Present)
A Suicide Squad Member Who Joins A Black Ops Force
In recent times, “Peacemaker” has garnered significant attention and laughter as one of the stellar and humorous superhero series, primarily due to the outstanding acting of its ensemble cast, spearheaded by John Cena. The show is marked by its material, which bears the distinctive touch of James Gunn. This series revolves around the character Peacemaker, who was first seen in “The Suicide Squad”. Christopher Smith is an antihero; his arrogant demeanor surfaces when he teams up with A.R.G.U.S. to protect innocent lives from a swarm of butterfly-like creatures.
In the midst of chaos within the series “Peacemaker”, the dynamic between Smith and A.R.G.U.S., along with its humorous tone, resonates strongly. The show’s humor, which includes sharp comedic moments reminiscent of shows like “Invincible”, is one of its key strengths, utilizing laughter effectively.
5. The Venture Bros. (2003-2018)
A Spoof-Filled Cartoon Following An Unconventional Family And Their Bodyguard
A less well-known animated series from this century, often overlooked, is “The Venture Bros.” This show is filled with numerous spoofs and provides a unique brand of humor. The story revolves around an inventive dad, his two not-so-bright sons, and their hot-tempered family bodyguard. The physical comedy unfolds as this zany gang embarks on various escapades that lead to both chaos and unrelenting excitement.
Incorporating characters inspired by comic book superheroes such as those from DC and Marvel, The Venture Bros. delves into the world of superheroes, combining humor and unique character development that has served as a model for numerous comedy animated series that came after it.
4. Gen V (2023-Present)
The Boys Spinoff Centered On New Age Superheroes
Another popular Amazon Prime series based on a superhero concept is the spin-off titled Gen V., stemming from the hit show, The Boys. Unlike its predecessor that focuses on the most powerful superheroes, Gen V concentrates on supers who are attending Godolkin University, a unique educational institution dedicated to nurturing and training new superheroes as they master and control their abilities.
The fresh focus in Generation V on the latest group of superheroes infuses a lively, youthful energy into the world of The Boys. This new phase carries over themes of love, morality, and social standing, evoking comparisons to its television counterpart, Invincible.
3. One Punch Man (2015-Present)
A Quirky Anime Satire Featuring An Unbeatable Superhero Who Just Wants A Challenge
In my opinion, although it might seem unusual due to its anime format, One Punch Man and Invincible have several commonalities in their superhero universe and themes. I’m just a follower who finds myself drawn into the story of Saitama, a superhero with abilities that surpass those of any other being, whether human or otherwise. Yet, despite his extraordinary powers, Saitama remains largely unknown to the public, and he appears to be unfazed by this lack of recognition.
In a simpler and more conversational style: One Punch Man’s story revolves around the endless stream of foes that challenge Saitama, yet none can compare to his nonchalant heroism. Meanwhile, Invincible’s frequent battles against new villains in each episode echo the narrative structure of the anime, although he doesn’t possess Saitama’s one-punch prowess.
2. X-Men ’97 (2024-Present)
A Popular Animated Reboot Of The Legendary Superhero Team
In 2024, the widely requested return was made by X-Men ’97, which served as both a reboot and continuation of the well-loved 90s cartoon centered around Marvel’s main characters, the X-Men. This series, which quickly gained viral popularity, follows the X-Men, a diverse group of mutants who possess unique abilities and face numerous challenges in their pursuit of justice. The close bond and teamwork among the X-Men are crucial elements that have made this iconic group stand out.
In the TV show X-Men ’97, Cyclops, Storm, and Wolverine are key team members, continuing and enhancing the enchantment of its earlier version. It’s pushing boundaries with groundbreaking animation and portraying Marvel’s iconic characters honestly. Similar to the Guardians of the Globe in Invincible, this animated X-Men squad functions as an elite group, constantly aiming for excellence while battling against evil.
1. The Boys (2019-Present)
An Epic Superhero Series That Portrays Superheroes As Villains
Similar to the series Invincible, The Boys has soared beyond mere pop culture fame, revolutionizing the way viewers perceive the superhero genre. With a witty and satirical approach, The Boys tells the story of a group determined to expose and bring down the unscrupulous actions of the beloved but corrupt superheroes who are employed by Vought International. As the seasons progress, the show’s chaos escalates, keeping audiences hooked.
Similar to “Invincible,” “The Boys” is brimming with intense gore and humorous undertones, featuring characters such as Homelander and Omni-Man who share many traits and are often regarded as among the best villains on TV.
