This list contains spoilers!
The MUTO Siblings
Working Together, They Nearly Defeated Godzilla
In the “Monsterverse,” Godzilla initially encounters both male and female MUTOs as his first adversaries. Contrary to what many viewers anticipated, he didn’t easily defeat them with grand victories, setting the tone for his entrance into this universe in a more subdued manner. This was due to the fact that this specific Godzilla had just awakened from a prolonged sleep, and as a result, he was deprived of radiation, making him significantly weaker.
To add to this, it’s noted that the colossal creatures known as MUTOs (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms) possess a unique ability to overpower Godzilla’s kind. They draw energy from and amplify their power through electricity absorption, and they can emit Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) waves to neutralize Godzilla’s atomic breath. Remarkably, they managed to keep Godzilla immobilized by working together, but this strategy fell apart when humans destroyed the Female MUTO’s nest, causing them to confront Godzilla individually. In this one-on-one encounter, Godzilla swiftly defeated both MUTOs in succession. Although it seems that if left uninterfered, the MUTOs might have eventually defeated Godzilla in a prolonged fight, the humans’ actions ultimately led to Godzilla’s victory.
MUTO Prime
The Queen Bee of the MUTO Species Was One of Godzilla’s Toughest Foes
The character known as MUTO Prime is the strongest and most dominant of all MUTOs. She made her appearance in the 2019 comic “Godzilla: Aftershock,” preceding the film “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” Time-wise, this story unfolds immediately following Godzilla’s fight against MUTO siblings in San Francisco in 2014. The MUTO Prime emerges as a fresh threat, and it is disclosed that the MUTOs slain by Godzilla were actually her offspring.
In a nutshell, MUTO Prime is an enhanced, armament-laden version of the Female MUTO. Known as Jinshin Mushi by the Japanese, she holds her own against Godzilla and comes close to ending his life. Her devastating sonic roar emitted a wave so intense that it fractured Godzilla’s dorsal plates. Similar to the MUTO Siblings, Godzilla stands no chance in this battle without human assistance. Additionally, the comic reveals that she was responsible for the death of one of Godzilla’s ancestors, Dagon. She planted Dagon’s eggs within him, which eventually developed into the MUTO siblings that Godzilla destroyed in San Francisco.
King Ghidorah
Godzilla’s Arch-Nemesis Has Got the Better of Him Multiple Times
In the movie “Godzilla: King of Monsters” (2019), Godzilla squared off against King Ghidorah, a long-standing adversary. Ghidorah is well known for being one of Godzilla’s main rivals and often serves as his arch-nemesis. In the Monsterverse, Ghidorah represents one of the strongest versions of this foe yet, forcing Godzilla to give his best to emerge victorious. The film uncovers that Godzilla and Ghidorah have been ancient adversaries, locked in combat centuries ago.
In the movie “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” Ghidorah is liberated from his icy imprisonment by Emma Russell, instantly clashing with a furious Godzilla. Though newly freed after centuries, Ghidorah appears to have the advantage in this battle. Later, during their confrontation in Boston, Ghidorah amplifies his strength by drawing power from the city’s electrical grid. In this enhanced form, he propels Godzilla high into the atmosphere and hurls him back toward Earth, causing severe damage. Subsequently, Ghidorah continues to bite into Godzilla’s neck relentlessly, further depleting his strength.
Mothra selflessly gives up to create a diversion, giving Godzilla enough time to activate his thermonuclear power and ultimately defeat Ghidorah. In their standard forms, it’s evident that Ghidorah held the advantage during their battle in Antarctica.
Mechagodzilla
A Mechanized Version of Godzilla That Gives Godzilla the Pummeling of his Life
In a bid to counter the Kaiju danger, Apex created a robotic version of Godzilla, which they dubbed Mechagodzilla. They utilized Ghidorah’s dismembered head for control purposes. However, their plan took an unexpected turn when Mechagodzilla turned against them, swiftly eliminating Ren Serizawa (its human operator) and escaping the facility.
As it exits the compound, it zeroes in on Godzilla, having recently defeated Kong in a prolonged battle. Godzilla is already weary from fighting Kong, and Mechagodzilla, engineered to vanquish him, is controlled by his arch-enemy. Mechagodzilla then begins to overpower Godzilla in combat, utilizing its greater strength, agility, and assortment of weapons. On the brink of defeating Godzilla, Kong intervenes to save the day. With a charged atomic breath-infused axe, Kong delivers the final blow to Mechagodzilla, working together with Godzilla to bring down their common adversary.
Kong
With the Right Tools and Creativity, Kong Can Defeat the Titan
In an unusual turn of events, Kong doesn’t possess the strength to engage Godzilla in a head-to-head battle. However, the Monsterverse shows that he can conquer seemingly impossible adversaries with the right resources at his disposal. For instance, in Kong: Skull Island, he triumphs over the alpha Skull Crawler by utilizing a chain connected to a boat’s propeller. In contrast, in Godzilla vs. Kong, he employs his parents’ axe to hold his ground against Godzilla and ultimately vanquish Mechagodzilla.
The New Empire,” where he skillfully employs the B.E.A.S.T glove against Godzilla, coming very close to knocking him unconscious. It’s important to note that Kong doesn’t aim to kill or defeat Godzilla in this scenario. Instead, when equipped with the right tools, Kong can indeed outmatch Godzilla.
Mothra
Often Godzilla’s Ally, Her Powers are Uniquely Strong
In the 2019 movie “Godzilla: King of Monsters”, Mothra is introduced as a significant ally to Godzilla. In this film, she skillfully showcases her abilities and fighting skills, playing a crucial part in the downfall of Ghidorah and even defeating Rodan single-handedly. Despite being a formidable titan, Mothra’s involvement in battles is often overlooked due to her captivating beauty and tranquil demeanor.
Historically, outside the Monsterverse, she boasts a superior victory record against Godzilla compared to numerous other Kaiju. In the movie “Godzilla: King of Monsters”, her webs managed to immobilize Ghidorah, giving Godzilla an edge in their Boston battle. She also defeated Rodan using her Stinger and infused Godzilla’s body with her essence in a self-sacrificing attack against Ghidorah, allowing Godzilla to endure a thermonuclear blast. In “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”, she emitted a powerful light pulse that knocked both Godzilla and Kong off their feet. Furthermore, she easily held Skar King’s army at bay in the Hollow Earth. With a diverse array of abilities and exceptional intelligence, she typically emerges victorious in her battles.
Shimo
The Ancient Frost Titan is Much Bigger and Stronger than Godzilla
In the year 2024, I found myself captivated by a colossal figure in the movie “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” named none other than Shimo. This ancient titan, hailing from the Monsterverse, is not just powerful, but her might is legendary; she’s the one who initiated the first ice age! As if that wasn’t impressive enough, she towers above even King Ghidorah, and I can confidently say she outweighs both Godzilla and Ghidorah combined. It’s said that during a past skirmish between Godzilla and Ghidorah, it was Shimo’s frosty exhalation that encased Ghidorah in ice.
In the epic clash of titans, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, I find myself in an unusual position – controlling a formidable foe. Under Skar King’s malevolent grip, I, Mecha-Godzilla, wield a chilling power that leaves Kong’s hand frozen and brittle.
Despite my allegiance to Skar King, my size and strength pose a significant threat, even to the mighty Godzilla. Our battle in the vibrant cityscape of Rio De Janeiro is a spectacle, with Skar King cleverly employing Shimo as a shield against both me and Kong. My bulk and resilience prove to be a formidable challenge for Godzilla, making our encounters particularly intense.
However, it’s essential to note that despite my destructive potential, I am more of a guardian than a destroyer at heart. Violence is not inherent in my nature, and this becomes evident as the story unfolds. Given my past feats of freezing King Ghidorah, it’s clear I could hold my own against Godzilla, should I ever choose to do so. But for now, I remain under Skar King’s control, a complex and intriguing character in this thrilling cinematic adventure.
