As a huge Sonic fan, I’m absolutely loving the new Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds! It’s really capturing that classic ‘Gotta Go Fast’ energy, and it’s already become a massive hit – it doesn’t look like its popularity is going to fade anytime soon, which is awesome!
The game is already gaining traction, as evidenced by its recent free update. This update features a cool collaboration with Persona 5, letting players experience the thrill of being part of the Phantom Thieves.
Four new content packs inspired by Atlus’ popular series have been released, including the addition of Joker as a playable character with a vehicle themed after his Persona, Arsène. Players can also enjoy three of Joker’s signature songs – “Take Over,” “Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There,” and “Victory” – on the in-game Jukebox, along with exclusive emotes and sound effects.
A special event, the Joker Festival, is coming soon! From October 24th to 27th, players can participate to earn exclusive rewards.
To mark the release of this free update, SEGA revealed some fun facts about Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, including how many copies have been sold and details about player racing habits, in a recent announcement.
The game has quickly become a success, selling over one million copies in just one month! Players have already raced an incredible 74.5 million times, including 31.5 million Grand Prix races and 13 million Ranked Matches. It’s a fantastic start for the game.
This is only the start, the developers say, and we can expect more partnerships and downloadable content in the future. The team is now asking players what they’d like to see added to CrossWorlds next.
Takashi Iizuka Hints at Future DLCs, but It’s Up to the Fans to Make Them Happen
At Brazil Game Show 2025, Takashi Iizuka, the veteran producer and creative force behind the Sonic games, hinted that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds might get additional downloadable content. However, he said this will only happen if there’s enough fan interest.
It’s awesome to hear so many of you are enjoying the game! That really motivates us to keep creating new content. As long as people keep playing, we can definitely keep the conversation going and explore adding even more DLC – we’ve already planned a year’s worth, but we could easily do two, three, or even more! Seriously, let us know what you want to see in the future!
