In a relaxed setting, sharing and enjoying games together with your companion can bring joy. However, there are moments when you might prefer to set aside friendly Animal Crossing and instead engage in fierce competition where no quarter is given.
Regardless if you and your significant other are on the same team or not, as long as the game brings enjoyment without damaging your relationship and involves competition with others, it qualifies for this list.
I’ve had the pleasure of confirming each of these games, as my partner and I have immersed ourselves in them, sharing an incredible gaming journey that has brought us numerous memorable evenings of fun.
Even though I strive for fairness while gaming with my partner, since our relationship remains robust, you’re welcome to give it your all without worry.

Mario Party 6
Like Day and Night
Despite being known for potentially causing strain among friendships, Mario Party allows players to fully engage, whether cooperatively or competitively, within its gameplay.
In these team games, there may be occasions when you engage in battles with other competitors alongside your partner. However, generally speaking, you’ll primarily be working together to undermine or outmaneuver every other player involved.
In many instances, I seem to contribute to a less-than-ideal atmosphere, but afterward, during or following our games, the tension tends to dissipate. This is when we all come to understand that we enjoyed ourselves, despite the occasional frustrations, such as the friend who consistently seems to master Chance Time too well for comfort.
If you’re seeking a game where everyone has an equal chance to be competitive, regardless of personal relationships or biases, I’d highly recommend giving Mario Party a try.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2
Combination for Pairs

It could be that I’m favoring my own preferences, but there’s something special about playing Tetris with my partner. The main reason is that I enjoy sharing strategies from a game where I excel, as it provides an opportunity to teach others.
In simpler terms, both Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 and I strive to create a level playing field for both seasoned players and newcomers. Given my lack of skill in Puyo Puyo, the game makes it more equitable for those who understand gravity concepts.
As a die-hard fan, even if neither you nor your companion aren’t initially thrilled about diving into Tetris or Puyo Puyo, I find myself utterly captivated by this unique experience, particularly when it comes to managing two games concurrently and interacting with an array of adorable characters.
Playing this game can provide a soothing, stress-free experience, and since the matches progress swiftly, making a mistake feels less frustrating. Additionally, you have the option to team up with someone else to play against computer opponents or online competitors, which might be more appealing than engaging in destructive activities like throwing virtual trash at each other.

Jackbox Party Packs
Something For Everyone

Indeed, Jackbox Games are designed primarily for group play, yet they offer flexibility that allows you and your partner to easily enter any lobby, regardless of the number of participants, and enjoy an excellent gaming experience together.
If you frequently notice a sense of disconnection with your partner during social games, even those from the Jackbox Party Pack 7 series, tend to intensify this feeling, and you usually find yourself competing rather than collaborating.
I really enjoy watching our friendly drawing competitions on Champ’d Up with my partner. We either cheer each other on as we watch, appreciate each other’s work, or collaborate to help improve our pieces, and Devils and the Details is always a part of it.
Each game within this collection brings excitement for both competition and cooperation, and I find Blather Round particularly enjoyable as you tend to have a good grasp of the charade your partner is trying to convey.

Among Us
Conflict of Interest

It seems clear that I don’t have any qualms about betraying my girlfriend in online games, and Among Us is a prime example where she often gets eliminated early when I’m playing as the Impostor.
Here are two main reasons behind this: Firstly, she has an uncanny ability to detect when I’m being dishonest. Secondly, I can feign innocence by saying something like “I could never harm my girlfriend!” This tactic seems to work flawlessly every time.
Even though Among Us might not appeal to everyone, if you’ve had fun playing it by deceiving your friends, consider using that same dynamic with the most significant person in your life for an engaging gaming experience.
Show courage, act quickly, and refute all accusations, but later assure your loved one it was a jest. In truth, there are numerous instances when playing this game with you that have only strengthened our bond.
4.
Tower Unite
Everything In One

Although Tower Unite, an indie game that originated from a GMod map and has a limited following on PC, might seem like an unusual topic to discuss extensively, my enthusiasm for it as a vibrant minigame hub is unwavering.
At least once a month, my partner and I usually log into Tower Unite to engage in activities such as mini-golf, ball racing, or even bowling, and sometimes we visit the arcade for added fun. Overall, it’s an enjoyable experience for both of us.
In Tower Unite, every game environment is characterized by competitiveness, yet it offers an incredibly relaxing gaming experience that stands out. Excluding the SDNL mode, you’re guaranteed to enjoy a smooth and well-refined ‘game-within-a-game’ experience.
With the earnings from acing multiple holes-in-one, you could buy some decorative items, subsequently embellish a shared condo, and unwind during downtimes amidst competitive rounds. This combination of activities is what truly makes it wonderful.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Not An Item

As a devoted fan, I’ve found myself in situations where both Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Party seem to toss the same number of unexpected obstacles my way, potentially derailing my progress. However, it’s remarkable how less likely Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is to strain friendships compared to Mario Party. Somehow, it manages to keep the competition fun and engaging without pushing relationships to their limits!
It seems that the reason I enjoy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe so much is due to its user-friendly nature, its emphasis on skill rather than random events, and the fact that it allows for a more concentrated gaming experience since there are no frequent transitions between mini-games. Additionally, racing with my partner has been a delightful part of the gameplay experience.
Regardless of whether you’re playing side-by-side locally using splitscreen, wirelessly at home, online, as a team or competing against each other, this game is incredibly user-friendly and helps us create camaraderie as we both often find ourselves frustrated by fellow players in the lobby.
Regardless of the usual competition aspect, this game is ideally suited for spending cozy hours with your loved one, and I rarely stay angry for longer than a brief spell.
2.
Forza Horizon 5
Cruise Control

One of the relaxing yet thrilling racing games ever created, Forza Horizon 5, offers not just competitive racing against other drivers, but also allows you to roam freely around the open world, which feels like being part of a caravan.
In my opinion, I truly enjoy cooperative gaming experiences, especially those open-world games designed for exploration together. Sharing an online space with my partner, simply cruising around and having a good time, is an absolutely delightful experience.
Regardless, I could still issue her a racing challenge across any location on the map, ensuring a swift journey from one extreme to another. Additionally, our caravan remains intact throughout these races and adventures, transporting us as a unified group.
A blend of relaxed yet engaging gameplay, offering opportunities for social interaction and enjoyment alongside a touch of challenging competition – never too intense as to cause frustration – is ideal. Plus, it’s even better if you have the freedom to decide your involvement on either side whenever you wish.

Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics
Variety Pack

Historically, one of the most enjoyable activities to do with friends and family has been engaging in board games together, which has led to numerous entertaining gatherings over the years.
I plan to play games like billiards, darts, discounted UNO, discounted Yahtzee, and discounted Connect 4 a thousand times over before I pass away, as these games are quick and convenient to start anytime I want.
While not all games within the collection are absolute standouts, each one is a timeless classic with something appealing for everyone. If, like me, you fire up Chess primarily to claim victory without any specific purpose, then there’s still plenty to enjoy in this collection.
Despite the stereotype that board games might be dull, Tanks stands out as an exceptional game, albeit not reaching the pinnacle of gameplay displayed in Wii Play. On the contrary, I find Golf, a top-down version, significantly more enjoyable than its counterpart in Wii Sports.
