8 Best Games Like Where Winds Meet

Okay, so I’ve been playing Where Winds Meet, and seriously, it’s blown me away. It’s one of the best free-to-play games I’ve seen in ages – the graphics are stunning, the combat is really fun, and there’s just so much to do. Honestly, I keep expecting to find out there’s a catch, because it’s incredible that it’s completely free!

The game boasts stunning visuals, tough but rewarding battles, and a huge variety of weapons and skills to master, keeping the combat fresh and exciting. While truly unique games like this are rare, there’s a good selection of others that offer a similar experience to Where Winds Meet.

We’ll be looking at games that share some qualities with Where Winds Meet, despite it being a really original title.

8. Rise of the Ronin

The Many Ways of the Samurai

When I first started playing Where Winds Meet, it immediately reminded me of Rise of the Ronin, my top game of 2024 so far. The new MMO shares a lot with it – a huge open world, diverse ways to fight, and a similar visual style.

Rise of the Ronin is set in a historically inspired Japan, during a turbulent period of change as the old government clashes with those seeking a modern future. The story is full of surprises, but the real star is the exciting combat. Players have access to a variety of weapons, each with unique fighting styles and unlockable moves. You can also use ranged options like bows, guns, and grenades to take down enemies.

The combat is spectacular, filled with intense clashes and skillful blocking, similar to the parry system in Sekiro, but even more challenging because each weapon requires unique timing. Beyond the main story, there’s a huge amount to do – side quests, collectibles, unlockable outfits and tools, and time-limited gliding challenges. It’s an incredibly full game, and if you enjoy fast-paced action and diverse gameplay like you find in Where Winds Meet, you should definitely check out Rise of the Ronin next.

7. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

A Bloody Visual Feast

If you were drawn to the Chinese mythology in Where Winds Meet, you should definitely try Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. It has a similar style and atmosphere, and offers a really unique take on the souls-like genre. The game features a stunning world to explore, but it’s also incredibly challenging. Enemies are aggressive, and even simple fights will push your skills to the limit, demanding precise timing and a strong understanding of the complex combat system.

When I first started playing, I felt a little restricted, but it didn’t take long to unlock a huge skill tree and learn tons of awesome attacks – each one actually felt useful! The game has these really cool systems too, like a ‘madness’ meter that boosts your damage but makes you more vulnerable, and if you die too much, you literally have to fight a demon! It’s not trying to be totally groundbreaking, but the combat looks and feels amazing, and the world is just gorgeous, with a fantastic art style and atmosphere. Honestly, it’s one of the best games from 2025 that I think flew under the radar, and it’s been a perfect follow-up to ‘Where Winds Meet’ for me.

6. Naraka: Bladepoint

Melee Royale

Okay, so when I first saw Where Winds Meet, I immediately thought of Naraka: Bladepoint – they just look alike. And it’s not just the visuals! The way you fight in Naraka, with all the fast-paced, wire-fu inspired moves, is really similar to what I’m seeing in Where Winds Meet. Even though Naraka is a battle royale, the actual fighting feels surprisingly close to this new game.

The fighting in this game feels very similar to Naraka: Bladepoint. It’s quick and action-packed, with a mix of special abilities, blocking, and both close-up and long-distance weapons. In practice, the combat is almost the same, and it’s obvious the developers took some cues from Naraka. The battle royale format constantly puts you in fast-paced fights with other players or AI, making each encounter exciting and unpredictable. While it shares similarities with Where Winds Meet, this game is more fast-paced and reactive, while Where Winds Meet allows you to play at your own speed.

Naraka: Bladepoint definitely offers a unique take on action games. If you’re open to something a little different and enjoy quick, acrobatic combat, you’ll find a lot to love here.

5. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

Rewriting the Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty reimagines the classic Three Kingdoms story with elements of fantasy and horror. While it might seem like an unusual mix, Team Ninja consistently delivers, and this game is no exception. It’s a challenging action RPG in the ‘soulslike’ style, known for its difficulty, and it features a particularly tough opening boss – a sign of the consistent challenge you’ll face throughout the game.

The game features all the iconic characters from the historical story, including Zhao Yun, Liu Bei, and a particularly formidable version of Lu Bu. It boasts a huge selection of weapons and a surprisingly deep magic system. While it’s not an open-world game like Where Winds Meet, there are plenty of hidden secrets to discover in each area.

Like Where Winds Meet, you can play with friends, and that’s really helpful here. Battles get chaotic quickly, so mastering the parry system as a team is essential – otherwise, you’ll likely fall fast. While fundamentally a soulslike game, it plays a lot like Where Winds Meet in terms of how you actually fight.

4. Jade Empire

The Underrated Legend

I consider Jade Empire to be one of the greatest games ever created. When it was released in 2005, games inspired by Chinese martial arts – known as Wuxia – were rare. Jade Empire essentially pioneered the genre, and many still consider it the best Wuxia game, as well as a top-tier role-playing game.

The game draws a lot of inspiration from kung-fu films and Chinese culture. While it begins with a familiar setup – your village is destroyed – the story quickly becomes unpredictable, filled with surprising twists and memorable characters, both friendly and hostile, that you’ll meet on your journey.

The game truly shines with its engaging, real-time combat system, letting you learn and use different fighting styles inspired by real martial arts. It features exciting, acrobatic moves and impressive combos, especially considering when it was released. While the graphics aren’t cutting-edge now, the art style remains appealing, and each location is beautifully detailed. You’ll encounter a surprising variety of enemies, and the game consistently introduces creative challenges. It’s a top-tier game and currently the gold standard for Wuxia titles, a position ‘Where Winds Meet’ is trying to reach.

3. Black Myth: Wukong

The Myth Comes Home

Black Myth: Wukong is a game that generated a lot of excitement, and thankfully, it delivers on most of the promises. It retells the classic Chinese story of Journey to the West, which is a hugely popular tale in Chinese culture.

You take on the role of the Monkey King, reborn and embarking on a mysterious quest to uncover the secrets of a strange and unusual world. As you progress, you’ll discover a wealth of optional stories and side quests, explore stunning environments, and face incredibly difficult bosses that rival the challenge of games like Dark Souls.

Battles are incredibly quick and depend on well-timed dodges and attacks. What really makes it special are the different transformations you can use, which completely change how you fight and even your health. While the combat might seem simple at first, it quickly opens up to become surprisingly complex – as deep as any ‘Souls-like’ game – all within a beautifully realized world. If you enjoyed the cultural elements in Where the Winds Meet, Black Myth: Wukong is a must-play.

2. Xuan Yuan Sword VII

The Wanderer With The Sword

I have to say, as a fan, Xuan Yuan Sword VII really surprised me. The series hasn’t gotten a lot of attention over here, but this game totally deserves to be noticed! It’s set during the Han Dynasty and tells a classic story of revenge, but with a beautiful fantasy twist. From the very beginning, the art style just pulls you into this amazing Wuxia world, and honestly, it lives up to the hype. It’s a fantastic experience!

Xuan Yuan Sword VII features excellent combat, offering players many different attacks and abilities to use against a diverse range of enemies. These foes are incredibly creative, spanning from creatures rooted in Chinese mythology to bizarre, Steampunk-inspired mechanical beasts.

Okay, so this game is packed with story and conversations – if you loved the way Where Winds Meet handled its dialogue and cutscenes, you’re going to have a lot to dive into here. Honestly, sometimes it feels like there’s too much, but the story is genuinely interesting, which is good because it keeps you moving forward. And the best part? Usually, reaching the end of a story section means you get to face an awesome boss, so I can definitely forgive a little extra story for that!

1. Black Desert Online

The MMO Fighting Champion

The game most similar to Where Winds Meet is likely Black Desert Online, released in 2016. It’s obvious that Black Desert Online heavily influenced Where Winds Meet, both in how it looks and how you fight, and it continues to have a very active and popular player base.

This game is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMO) that’s just as enjoyable to play solo. However, it also offers plenty of opportunities for teaming up with others. You can choose from 29 different classes and really personalize your character with extensive customization options. But what truly stands out is the combat – it’s arguably the best in any MMO, and honestly rivals many dedicated action games. Expect flashy effects, satisfying impact, and a huge range of weapons and fighting techniques.

The game offers a lot to do beyond its engaging combat. You can explore a vast open world filled with side quests, activities like fishing and cooking, and plenty of other ways to enjoy yourself. If you want an MMO that feels like a single-player experience with incredible real-time battles, this is definitely one of the top choices.
