8 Best-Written Jujutsu Kaisen Characters Gege Completely Forgot About

Gege Akutami skillfully avoids typical shonen manga clichés, creating a dangerous world where any character can face real consequences. Jujutsu Kaisen stands out for its intricate power dynamics and complex relationships between characters, and fans have praised its fast-paced plot and lack of unnecessary filler. However, this quick pace sometimes means that characters who were initially important end up sidelined. In the recent arc, several established sorcerers were either left out of the action, given unclear resolutions, or simply disappeared from the story.

While the compelling main storyline of Jujutsu Kaisen keeps viewers hooked, it’s also interesting to imagine different fates for characters who deserved to survive. Seven supporting characters, in particular, stand out for their unique approaches, backstories, and personalities, even if their stories didn’t always get the closure they deserved. These characters really captured the audience’s attention.

Toge Inumaki

Toge Inumaki was a stand-out student in the Tokyo Second-Year class, known for his powerful and risky Cursed Speech technique. Both in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and the beginning of the main series, he proved to be a formidable fighter capable of quickly ending fights with a single word – though using his ability took a significant toll on his body.

After losing his arm during the battle in Shibuya, Inumaki wasn’t as prominent in the fighting. He only appeared briefly in a few scenes and had a small part in the final battle, meaning most of his story and how he dealt with losing his friends happened behind the scenes. Many fans felt that his relationships with Yuta and Panda could have been explored more fully before the series ended.

Miwa Kasumi

At first, Miwa seems like a typical girl living in a world filled with curses, but her emotional depth makes her easy to connect with. After Mechamaru’s death, she’s put in a difficult situation designed to make her stronger, even going so far as to threaten to give up fighting and continue negotiating with the villain, Kenjaku. However, Kenjaku easily outmaneuvers her. After this, Miwa largely becomes a background character. Many fans were disappointed that her potential as a skilled fighter wasn’t fully explored during the Culling Games, and that she was relegated to a tragic role when she had the ability to be a powerful hero.

Hajime Kashimo

Kashimo is a powerful, 400-year-old Lightning God and sorcerer who specifically sought out Sukuna as a worthy opponent. He entered the Culling Games with a formidable reputation, and his battle against Hakari is considered a highlight of the series. Unfortunately, when he finally uses his unique and powerful Cursed Technique, Mythical Beast Amber, against Sukuna, the fight ends very quickly.

Fans felt Kashimo’s ending came too abruptly, given his long and anticipated backstory. While he was a compelling and battle-focused character, he ultimately served mostly to gauge Sukuna’s power, and his own story felt incomplete as a result.

Hana Kurusu / Angel

Hana Kurusu shares a connection with an ancient sorcerer named Angel who resides within her, and this connection was significant even before recent events, giving them the power to release Satoru Gojo. While this relationship of vessel and spirit is comparable to Yuji and Sukuna, it hasn’t been developed much in the story.

Hana spends most of her time thinking about Megumi Fushiguro, her childhood crush, which makes her vulnerable to Sukuna’s manipulation. Many Reddit users believe the author, Gege, intentionally skipped over important backstory about the Angels – specifically their desire for revenge against The Fallen – in order to rush towards the story’s climax.

Aoi Todo

Aoi Todo is a fan favorite in the anime and manga series Jujutsu Kaisen. His unique fighting style, called Boogie Woogie, leads to some incredibly inventive action sequences. Todo is injured during the Shibuya incident, losing a hand, and doesn’t reappear in the story until the very final battle, where he offers assistance.

It’s disappointing to see Todo’s potential go untapped, especially considering he was mentored by Yuki Tsukumo. They haven’t even shared a scene together in the current storyline. His lack of presence noticeably impacts the series’ overall feel, and despite being promoted as a key character, his extended absence over the last twelve chapters feels like a missed opportunity.

Nobara Kugisaki

The reason for Nobara’s supposed death in Shibuya is a major point of contention among fans. For a long time, her fate was left unclear, with Arata Nitta hinting she might still be alive. This uncertainty kept fans hoping for her return, but it wasn’t until the very end of the story that her fate was finally addressed.

I noticed Nobara’s development as a character seemed to stall, especially during the big events like the Culling Games – she just wasn’t around much of the time. It’s a shame, because she was a really strong, independent female character who broke the typical ‘damsel in distress’ mold. It almost felt like the author, Gege, didn’t fully realize her potential until quite late in the story.

Yuki Tsukumo

Yuki Tsukumo was a remarkably powerful sorcerer whose full potential was never realized. As one of only four Special Grade sorcerers, her goal wasn’t just to fight spirits, but to fundamentally change the world by eliminating Cursed Energy altogether. Despite only appearing briefly, her research into the soul proved crucial in both saving Megumi and temporarily defeating Sukuna.

Yuki’s death, while brave, felt unfair to many fans, who suspect the story protected Kenjaku at her expense. It seemed improbable that she’d suddenly gain a technique powerful enough to fight something like a black hole. Viewers also wanted to see her relationship with Todo explored further and wished she’d had a bigger role overall. She possessed a unique and compelling worldview, making her a truly groundbreaking character, but sadly, the story used her to move the plot forward before she could fully shine.

Fumihiko Takaba

Fumihiko Takaba possesses a Cursed Technique called Comedian, which many consider the most overpowered ability in the series. It allows him to make anything he finds funny become real, with power comparable to Satoru Gojo. However, Takaba is a comedian who refuses to kill, as he doesn’t believe death is humorous. This personal restriction is the only reason the story didn’t end in a completely different way. Had Takaba embraced even a little dark humor – imagining Sukuna accidentally injuring himself or Gojo’s Infinity failing, for example – he could have easily defeated both Gojo and Sukuna in a fight.

Takaba’s role diminished significantly after his memorable fight with Kenjaku. It felt like a missed opportunity that such a unique and creatively written character wasn’t used more in the final battle against Sukuna. He was a compelling and unusual character who could have drastically altered the outcome of the war, but he was sidelined once his specific story arc was complete, with the narrative ultimately focusing on Yuji and Yuta as the central heroes.
