If you enjoy playing first-person shooter games, 2026 looks promising! There will be a variety of options, from large-scale multiplayer battles to immersive single-player stories, offering something for all types of players.
Gaming trends change, but first-person shooters are here to stay. Classic games like Wolfenstein, DOOM, Call of Duty, Duke Nukem, and Battlefield established a strong and enjoyable base that continues to attract players.
2026 already looks like a rootin’, tootin’, shootin’ good time.
Biggest First-Person Shooters Launching In 2026
Just a heads-up: this list of highly anticipated games for 2026 is tentative. The video game industry is unpredictable, and release dates can shift due to delays or unforeseen circumstances. A single change to a major game like GTA 6 could completely alter everything, so please keep that in mind when looking at the dates provided.
Highguard

Players are keeping a close eye on Highguard, a game that became a major mystery after its announcement at The Game Awards 2025. It ended the show, but the reaction was negative, and the game’s official social media went silent afterward. Despite this, many still believe the game has potential.
The game was created by developers who previously worked at Respawn Entertainment, so it’s likely to be polished and play very smoothly. It’s still uncertain if there’s enough demand for another free-to-play shooter, but people may have underestimated its potential.
Release Date: January 26
High On Life 2

Reviews for High On Life weren’t as positive as the developers hoped, but that didn’t stop a lot of players from trying it out on Xbox Game Pass. The game proved popular enough to warrant a sequel. If you liked the first High On Life, the second one is likely worth playing. Even if you skipped the original, it might be worth giving the sequel a chance.
Release Date: February 13
Toxic Commando

I’m seriously impressed with what Saber Interactive is doing right now! After the wild ride of Hellraiser and their amazing work on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (plus they’re already planning more!), they’ve dropped Toxic Commando. You can play it solo if you want, but it’s way more fun with friends – it’s all about having a blast while being genuinely creeped out! We’re talking eight missions packed with disgusting creatures and a ton of weapons to fight them with. Honestly, it looks like a throwback to the golden age of first-person shooters, and I can’t wait to jump in!
Release Date: March 12
Mouse: P.I. For Hire

The TopMob team is really impressed with Mouse: P.I. For Hire. Its distinctive rubberhose animation style is charming and reminds us of Cuphead. However, unlike Cuphead’s cute bosses, this game is a smart and action-packed first-person shooter that fully embraces its unique theme and visuals. While it looks like a cartoon, the trailers show it’s also surprisingly intense. Mouse: P.I. For Hire has the potential to be a standout hit in 2026.
Release Date: March 19
Marathon

Following extensive testing and problem-solving to avoid a failed launch – a fate many predict for the game – Bungie is preparing to release Marathon in March 2026. The past year has been challenging, with the game facing accusations of plagiarism, low staff morale, and the departure of its Art Director. Despite these hurdles, Marathon’s success is still uncertain. It has the potential to be a major hit in 2026, but it also risks mirroring the failure of another recent game, Concord.
Release Date: March 2026
Halo: Campaign Evolved

Halo: Combat Evolved is likely to be a success. Its release on PlayStation 5 feels like a turning point, potentially marking the end of the console wars and a new chapter for the Halo series. Even now, the original campaign remains better than many modern shooters, which can only offer weak copies of its iconic story. While the lack of multiplayer is a downside, Halo: Combat Evolved still delivers some of the most refined and satisfying shooting gameplay ever created.
Release Date: 2026
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam

The Vietnam War remains a deeply impactful and lengthy conflict in history. The military shooter game, Hell Let Loose, is known for its realism, and its new Vietnam setting offers a particularly authentic experience for players interested in this difficult period. TopMob recently had an early look at the update at Gamescom, and Tom Henderson believes “Hell Let Loose: Vietnam” will be a standout addition to the game, providing an immersive and often underrepresented style of gameplay in the first-person shooter genre.
Release Date: 2026
Call of Duty 2026 (Modern Warfare 4)

Call of Duty games will continue to be released regularly, with a new installment always on the horizon. As the best-selling first-person shooter series ever, according to records like Guinness World Records, Black Ops 7 will be replaced by the 2026 Call of Duty game – currently speculated to be Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. This new game is reportedly set in North and South Korea, and will likely need to be a significant improvement after the lukewarm reception to Black Ops 7. However, even if it isn’t, Call of Duty games consistently sell well regardless.
Release Date: Late 2026 (Oct/Nov)
