As a movie enthusiast who simply can’t get enough of gripping narratives, let me tell you about my current obsession: Squid Game. This series has been the talk of the town, with each season leaving viewers on the edge of their seats. The concept is ingenious – it’s like watching our beloved characters defy all odds and battle against a sinister set of games where the losers face a chilling fate.
In such intense situations, it’s understandable that some participants might resort to deceit, whether for self-preservation or retaliation. The organizers, with their apparent vast resources, also hold a significant amount of power, allowing them to subtly manipulate events and potentially betray anyone who seems to pose a threat to them.
8. Captain Park Turning Out To Be A Double Agent
Threw A Wrench In Hwang Jun-ho’s Plans

- Betrayal Episode: “Friend or Foe” (Season 2, Episode 7)
Initially, Captain Park appears to be an engaging figure, rescuing Jun-ho and aiding him in discovering the island during their usual sailing voyages. Yet, it isn’t until later that we uncover his deception – he has secretly been working against the former detective and their team throughout.
In the climactic episode of Season 2, I chose to interfere with crucial drone footage, a move that eventually led to my discovery by one of the search party members. To preserve my disguise, I assaulted this individual and shoved him overboard. However, it’s only a matter of time before Jun-ho and his team unmask my deceitful character. As a dedicated movie buff, I can tell you that such twists keep the plot engaging!
7. Cho Sang-woo Taking Advantage Of Ali’s Trust
The Most Heartbreaking Betrayal In The Series

- Betrayal Episode: “Gganbu” (Season 1, Episode 6)
In one of the most surprising and saddening moments from Season 1, a seemingly friendly game of marbles takes an unexpected turn as two friends, Sang-woo and Ali, believe they’re teaming up. However, circumstances lead them to compete in a high-stakes, life-or-death situation instead.
Following a defeat, Sang-woo opts to use cunning tactics and takes advantage of Ali’s honest character. He secretly takes Ali’s marbles for himself, leaving behind worthless pebbles instead. This leaves Ali believing that nothing is amiss, while Sang-woo manages to keep his possessions and effectively condemns Ali to loss.
6. Oh Il-nam Turning Out To Be The Person Who Created The Killing Games
Shocked And Angered Seong Ji-hun

- Betrayal Episode: “One Lucky Day” (Season 1, Episode 9)
Gi-hun is left with a sense of guilt after tricking Oh Il-nam during the marbles game. In the last episode of the first season of Squid Game, it appears that the old man intends to give up his life for Gi-hun’s sake, but the truth eventually emerges in the finale.
It’s been discovered that Il-nam designed these intricate games to underscore humanity’s self-centeredness and vanity. He pits Gi-hun against the notion of kindness, ultimately losing when Gi-hun demonstrates that people are compassionate and willing to assist those in distress, even strangers.
5. Hwang Jun-ho Discovering That His Brother Is The Ringleader Of The Games
Broke His Heart Before Shooting Him And Sending Him Crashing Into The Sea

- Betrayal Episode: “Front Man” (Season 1, Episode 8)
During the initial season of “Squid Game“, character Jun-ho assumes the position of a guard. He spends this time attempting to locate his elder brother. Following an encounter with guards and the Front Man on a cliffside, he insists on knowing his brother’s fate. However, what transpires afterwards leaves him in utter shock.
The Lead Character removes his disguise, revealing he is the long-lost brother that Jun-ho had been desperately seeking. In a shocking twist, he fires at Jun-ho, hitting him in the shoulder which sends him tumbling off a cliff into the raging waters below. This is a bone-chilling act of treachery, but determined as ever, Jun-ho fights to stay alive and resolves to locate the island where these gruesome games are happening, with the goal of putting an end to this savagery once and for all.
4. Hwang In-ho Betraying Everyone At The End Of Season 2
The Front Man Fooled Everyone Till The Very End

- Betrayal Episode: “Friend or Foe” (Season 2, Episode 7)
Following the established pattern of the series, it’s no surprise that the Player 001 in Season 2 is none other than our Front Man. He manages to forge a friendship with Gi-hun, even going so far as to feign camaraderie during their survival of various games and involvement in the coup.
Yet, it’s in the final act where In-ho reveals his true nature, eliminating any chance for the rebels to prevent the games. As the season concludes, he puts on a mask and murders Jung-bae as retribution against Gi-hun, leaving us hanging with a nerve-wracking cliffhanger.
3. Park Min-su Choosing To Stick With Thanos Instead Of Supporting Se-mi
His Cowardly Antics Eventually Led To Her Demise

- Betrayal Episode: “Friend or Foe” (Season 2, Episode 7)
It can’t be disputed that Park Min-su exhibits a great deal of cowardice in the Netflix series, Squid Game. Even though Se-mi rescues him, he ultimately decides to side with Thanos and his group, choosing betrayal over loyalty.
This action significantly escalates the hostility between Se-mi and the collective, ultimately leading to a gruesome end where Nam-gyu repeatedly stabs her with a fork. Despite Park Min-su’s attempt to rescue Se-mi by hurling a bottle, he fails, leaving him only to listen in shock and dismay as she is brutally murdered.
2. Jang Deok-su Betraying Han Mi-nyeo Only To Receive His Comeuppance Not Long After
Watching Him Crash Into The Abyss With A Jilted Lover Makes For A Cinematic Double Death

- Betrayal Episode: “V.I.P.S” (Season 1, Episode 7)
Midway through the first season of Squid Game, Deok-su and Mi-nyeo develop a complex relationship, but then Deok-su abandons her during the Tug-of-War contest. This betrayal stays with her, and she ultimately seeks revenge against him in the Glass Bridge game.
After Deok-su stubbornly stands his ground, Mi-nyeo feigns danger before embracing the gangster. Enraged by an earlier act of deceit, the spurned lover retaliates dramatically, causing both characters to plummet to their deaths in a spectacular scene that ranks among the most memorable from the first season of Squid Game.
1. Thanos Ejecting His Biggest Fan Only To Regret His Act
The Drug-Fueled Rapper Showed That He Still Had A Heart Despite His Erratic Actions

- Betrayal Episode: “O X” (Season 2, Episode 6)
Thanos is among the standout characters in the series “Squid Game“, his captivating and drug-influenced demeanor making him one of the most intriguing figures throughout Season 2. In a peculiar manner, he seems to revel in the games, finding enjoyment and fun, despite the constant specter of death hanging over his head.
In the course of the Mingle game, he opted to kick Gyeong-su while under the influence of drugs during one round. This act seemed cold-hearted and treacherous, but Thanos managed to regain some clarity due to sobering up slightly. Unfortunately, all he could do was watch as his fan met an unfortunate end, being shot and killed. This tragic event greatly enhanced the complexity of this rapper’s character, making fans even more captivated by him.
