I’ve noticed that Eiichiro Oda really excels at building compelling rivalries and partnerships. When it comes to One Piece, Zoro and Sanji are definitely the most famous duo after Luffy – they’re officially known as the Wings of the Pirate King, and have become incredibly popular, not just within the series, but in anime as a whole. However, they aren’t the only fantastic pair Oda has created; One Piece is full of other duos that are just as memorable.
8. Dorry and Brogy
Dorry and Brogy are a powerful pair from the world of One Piece, originally introduced during the Little Garden arc. As co-captains of the Giant Pirates, they are incredibly strong and have a combined bounty of 3.6 billion berries, marking them as a major threat.
I’m really excited about Dorry and Brogy! They’ve been huge players lately, especially showing up in Egghead and then having that incredible battle in Elbaf. From the moment they were introduced, it felt like Oda was setting them up to be the powerhouses matching Zoro and Sanji, always pushing each other to be stronger. What’s awesome is that even with all their competitive spirit, they always have each other’s backs when things get tough and fight as a team!
7. Kid And Killer
Kid and Killer lead the Kid Pirates as Captain and First Mate. They first appeared during the Sabaody Archipelago arc as part of the ‘Worst Generation,’ already with bounty rewards over 100 million berries. They became important again during the Wano Arc in One Piece, where they fought alongside each other against the Yonko, demonstrating a strong connection.
During the battle with Hawkins, Kid clearly relied heavily on Killer, solidifying them as one of the most memorable captain-vice captain pairings in One Piece. Although they were defeated by Shanks and their current situation is unclear, it’s highly likely they’ll reappear in the story somehow.
6. Rayleigh and Gaban
Besides Zoro and Sanji, one of the most compelling pairings in the world of One Piece is Scopper Gaban and Silvers Rayleigh, the top two members of the Roger Pirates. Similar to the dynamic between Zoro and Sanji in the Straw Hat Pirates, Gaban and Rayleigh were also their crew’s second-in-command and shared a competitive relationship.
So far, fans have only witnessed Rayleigh and Gaban together in past scenes, but there’s a lot of anticipation that they’ll have a chance to meet again in the present day.
5. Garp and Roger
Monkey D. Garp and Gol D. Roger were an incredibly powerful pair in the world of One Piece. Though Roger was the Pirate King and Garp a Marine hero – natural enemies – they somehow became allies, defying expectations.
Even though they were rivals with very different beliefs, the two found themselves fighting together on God Valley against the dangerous Domi Reversed Rocks D. Xebec. Their combined strength allowed them to overcome Rocks and any other obstacles they faced. Their connection was incredibly strong; Roger even trusted Garp to raise his son, and Garp fulfilled that promise.
4. Big Mom and Kaido
The Yonko were once the most powerful groups in the world of One Piece. Two of the strongest, Kaido and Big Mom, teamed up in the Wano Country. Despite being different, they formed an alliance with the goal of conquering the world and finding the legendary treasure, the One Piece. However, their combined forces were ultimately defeated by a group known as the Worst Generation.
Big Mom and Kaido have a long history together, dating back to before the God Valley Incident when Linlin cared for Kaido after he joined the Rocks Pirates. Big Mom actually helped Kaido obtain his powerful Devil Fruit, the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu. They share a close, almost sibling-like connection.
3. Shanks and Buggy
Shanks and Buggy were two notable children who joined the crew of the Pirate King. Both were brought on board under unusual circumstances and raised by Roger’s crew. They grew up together and became like brothers. Though they once shared a close bond, they now find themselves rivals in the race to find the One Piece.
After the Roger Pirates broke up, Buggy and Shanks went their separate ways, each forming their own crew – the Buggy Pirates and the Red Hair Pirates. Buggy became insecure compared to Shanks, but despite that, they still have a strong bond and care about each other. Many fans believe they will team up again in the final part of the One Piece story, becoming the legendary duo they once were.

2. Rocks and Harald
Fans of the One Piece series had been eagerly anticipating the appearance of Rocks D. Xebec for years, and he finally appeared in a flashback involving Loki on Elbaf. This flashback revealed a strong connection between Rocks D. Xebec and the late King of Elbaf, Harald. The two were equals, and their first meeting was a fierce battle that had a widespread impact.
Although they were rivals, Harald and Rocks became close because they were evenly matched in power. It was especially painful for fans when Harald sided with the World Government and Imu, refusing to help Rocks. Despite their complicated history, they remain a memorable pair, particularly as the story of One Piece nears its end.
1. Noland and Kalgara
The Skypiea arc in One Piece features a particularly memorable flashback detailing the story of Noland and Kalgara. Noland, an explorer, sought the legendary City of Gold, a place revered by the Shandians and their leader, Kalgara. Despite initially being rivals due to their differing beliefs, Noland and Kalgara developed a strong and touching friendship that resonated with many viewers.
Though their relationship began with conflict, Noland ultimately rescued the people of Shandora. While Kalgara anxiously awaited his return, Noland was falsely accused of lying and executed, causing the legendary City of Gold to be lost. They never had a chance to reunite, but Noland and Kalgara remain one of the most memorable pairs in One Piece, comparable to well-known characters like Zoro and Sanji.
