8 Strongest Solo Leveling Characters (Right Now)

The power levels in Solo Leveling are always shifting as new characters appear, and it’s important to remember this assessment is current as of this writing. Currently, a character’s strength is judged by what they’ve actually shown, what’s hinted at, and their overall reputation within the story. This distinction matters because, often, characters are built up to be more powerful than they ultimately prove to be.

This ranking focuses on characters who demonstrate enough power, authority, and battlefield presence to command other hunters and monsters at this point in the story. It includes those whose strength is already proven, as well as those with potential, representing the absolute peak of power currently displayed in Solo Leveling.

8. Choi Jong-In

Class Mage
Guild Hunters Guild
Rank S-Rank

Choi Jong-In is known throughout Korea as an incredibly powerful mage, famous for the sheer scale of destruction he can cause. His fire magic is devastating, capable of wiping out large groups of enemies in moments. He’s considered one of the most damaging hunters in the entire S-Rank tier.

Choi maintains his eighth-place ranking not because he’s lacking in any area, but due to his focused skillset. He excels in situations demanding sheer power and controlled force. However, this advantage diminishes when facing large magical creatures or hunters skilled in close combat. Despite this, at this point in the story, very few can rival his powerful attacks.

7. Cha Hae-In

Class Fighter
Guild Hunters Guild
Rank S-Rank

Cha Hae-In was a top-level hunter in Korea, considered dangerous enough that the Ant King immediately attacked her during the Jeju Island Raid. Her speed, precision, and lethal focus made her a high-priority target.

While some characters, like Hwang Dong-Su, seem potentially more powerful, it’s still too early to say for sure. Cha is a proven and respected hunter, consistently demonstrating his strength in battle.

6. Go Gun-Hee

Class Fighter
Guild Retired
Rank S-Rank

One of the biggest mysteries in Solo Leveling is the full extent of Go Gun-Hee’s power. What we do know is significant: before he retired, he was widely considered the strongest hunter in Korea. Even his presence can be incredibly intimidating to even the highest-ranked hunters and important figures from around the world.

He’s returned because of what he used to do, not what he’s doing now. While he isn’t currently involved in any fighting, his return suggests a major shift in the existing power dynamics. The moment for that shift hasn’t arrived yet, but it’s inevitable.

5. Goto Ryuji

Class Fighter
Guild Blade Guild
Rank S-Rank

Before the Jeju Island Raid, Goto Ryuji was incredibly popular. As the top hunter and leader of Japan’s Blade Guild, people had very high expectations for him. While he was quickly defeated by the Ant King, he initially fought bravely, proving he was indeed the strongest member of the Blade Guild.

Several other hunters from the Blade Guild were killed instantly, without even a chance to fight back. Goto, however, was considered the strongest hunter in Japan. His loss isn’t a sign of his weakness, but rather a demonstration of just how incredibly powerful the Ant King is.

4. The Ant King (Beru)

Class Magic Beast(Insect)
Guild N/A
Rank S-Rank

The Ant King represents an incredibly powerful character, perhaps one of the strongest ever created. He was remarkably fast, intelligent, and physically dominant, easily defeating even the most skilled hunters. His very presence could ruin carefully laid strategies and completely change the course of a battle.

What made Beru truly frightening was how quickly he transformed during the fight. Even perfect teamwork couldn’t hold him back. By this point in the story, very few creatures would survive long enough to even see the Ant King, let alone challenge him directly.

3. Sung Jinwoo

Class Necromancer
Guild Ahjin Guild
Rank S-Rank

Jinwoo’s current rank doesn’t reflect how strong he’ll eventually become – it only shows his progress so far. He’s still improving at an incredible pace, and his shadow army is getting bigger and more powerful. With each battle, he continues to surpass what’s expected of a typical hunter.

What truly sets Jinwoo apart is his incredible ability to adapt. He doesn’t just defeat his enemies; he absorbs their power, learns from their strengths, and comes back even stronger. Even though he’s still growing, Jinwoo is already one of the most dangerous creatures alive.

2. Liu Zhigang

Class Fighter
Guild Gold Dragon Guild(Formerly)
Rank National Level Hunter

Liu Zhigang is considered one of the most powerful hunters in the world, rivaled only by Thomas Andre. While Thomas is well-rounded, Liu specializes in dealing damage and is known as the strongest hunter in Asia. He was frustrated that he didn’t get to fight the Ant King – especially after seeing how easily the Ant King defeated over a dozen top-level (S-rank) hunters – because Liu believed he could have won.

Even though we haven’t seen much of this character yet, viewers already seem to love him and are excited to see more of his story.

1. Thomas Andre

Class Tanker
Guild Scavenger Guild
Rank National Level Hunter

Watching Solo Leveling, it’s clear Thomas Andre is currently the strongest hunter in the series. I remember when the Jeju Island raid was first planned – they originally wanted Thomas to handle it. However, he demanded so much money that Korea ended up taking on the raid themselves.

Thomas Andre is currently seen as the most powerful hunter in the series, largely due to the high expectations surrounding his abilities. Many believe he’s capable of single-handedly handling even the most dangerous situations, like the one on Jeju Island. However, after Jinwoo’s performance on Jeju Island, a lot of fans now think Jinwoo might actually be stronger. Jinwoo’s shadow army gives him a significant advantage, potentially overwhelming Thomas even if Thomas is individually more powerful – but only time will reveal who truly is the strongest.
