8 Things to Do in Red Dead Redemption 2 After the Epilogue

Heavy spoilers ahead for Red Dead Redemption 2

In the ending of Arthur Morgan’s tale, under the light of his last sunrise, John Marston resumes his journey, ready to live alongside his wife and child. Though the escapades of the Van der Linde gang have come to an end, the hero is now liberated to embark on new adventures and tackle some lingering affairs in the epilogue of Red Dead Redemption 2.

As players assume the role of John Marston, they may find themselves questioning what new possibilities arise since they’re no longer Arthur Morgan. Rest assured, there’s still a wealth of activities to engage in within Red Dead Redemption 2, even during the epilogue, as the game still has a fair amount of content left for players to explore while embodying John Marston.

8. Pay Your Respects to Old Friends

Observe Moments of Silence at the Graves of Fallen Friends

In Red Dead Redemption 2, players have grown attached to many characters who’ve sadly met their end. Since John Marston was fortunate enough to survive the Van der Linde gang relatively unscathed and without undue burden, it seems fitting that he should honor those who helped him reach his current position by paying his respects to them.

John has the opportunity to meet several significant characters, including Sean MacGuire and Arthur Morgan, with the latter holding great significance. A crucial experience for John Marston is visiting Arthur’s grave, which offers a stunning view of the sun from its clifftop location in Ambarino. This was a man who rescued his brother, making this visit particularly meaningful to him.

7. Finish Up Arthur Morgan’s Unfinished Business

Help Those Who Met Arthur Back in 1899

After Arthur’s passing, he bequeathed his belongings – the satchel, journal, and hat – to John. Now that John has inherited Arthur’s journal, he can delve into its pages to learn about Arthur’s activities from 1899, and help complete Arthur’s story by wrapping up his incomplete business, such as reconnecting with some of Arthur’s old friends who were previously unknown to John.

In 1899, Arthur encountered numerous individuals whose lives were positively impacted by his acquaintance with this quiet outlaw. John Marston can subsequently interact with these people to discuss Arthur and exchange comforting moments of sorrow, such as Charlotte Balfour from Willard’s Rest or the veteran Hamish Sinclair, among others.

6. Explore New Austin in 1907

A New State Awaits Exploration in 1907

1899’s Blackwater isn’t as safe for the Van der Linde gang as it once was, which means John Marston now has an opportunity to travel west into New Austin without fear of Pinkertons or hidden snipers ambushing him. Although Arthur couldn’t return West, John can, and there he may uncover some new mysteries to keep himself occupied.

As I, John, embark on my trek towards the sunset, I’ll run into the Del Lobo gang and delve into the eerie town of Armadillo, a place tainted by cholera, with peculiar links to the Mysterious Man. The West isn’t exactly bustling in New Austin, but it’s worthwhile to catch a glimpse of these landmarks I’ll revisit in 1911 in the first installment of Red Dead Redemption.

5. Become a Legend of the East

Complete Challenges in the Compendium to Become the Best Gunslinger

As a seasoned gamer, I found myself embarking on an epic journey with 9 intricate sets of trials, each containing 10 formidable levels. From honing my Weapons Expertise to mastering the art of Hunting, Arthur Morgan aimed to solidify his status as an authentic legendary outlaw and marksman. Alas, fate had other plans, claiming his life before he could conquer all the challenges set before him. Now that John Marston has taken up his spurs, there’s a chance he can achieve what Arthur couldn’t due to his tuberculosis – perhaps even surpassing the great outlaw and gunslinger himself.

One effective way to pay tribute to Arthur Morgan would be by striving to be known as the East’s Legend and successfully completing the 90 tasks prepared for the players. Experience poker games, use throwing knives to take down fearsome grizzly bears, and hone your marksmanship skills – all these actions will lead you to acquire the Legend of the East attire.

4. Enjoy Being a Family Man

Help Out on Beecher’s Hope and Spend Time With the Family

Life at Beecher’s Hope is tranquil, though not particularly fertile for farming anything but stones. There’s still plenty of labor to keep busy. It’s an honest living, and while John may occasionally yearn for the Van der Linde gang’s camaraderie under the open sky, he can still share songs and meals with Jack, Abigail, and his uncle here.

Instead of living the thrilling life of an outlaw, John Marston now engages in straightforward, honorable work, which he finds fulfilling. As a devoted family man, he partakes in shared meals, engaging discussions, and household tasks. This serves as evidence that John has left his outlaw past behind, embracing a peaceful life on the homestead.

3. Indulge in a Gunslinger’s Life Through Bounties and Gang Wars

Prove That Legends Never Die Without a Gun in Hand

In the year 1899, John likely didn’t imagine his days would be filled with tending crops, tending sheep, and managing manure with a pitchfork. But it’s hard work that keeps him going. Yet, if John feels the need for a break from all this racket, a chance to revisit what made life enjoyable in those days, then it’s time to strap on a six-shooter, holster, and set off westward again.

In the sprawling landscapes of Red Dead Redemption 2, set in 1907, perilous encounters are still aplenty. From one dusty corner of the tamed West to another, rogue gangs continue to make their presence known. As John Marston, I’m always on the lookout for new gangs, ready to clash with old ones, and eagerly engage in any form of conflict that comes my way, aiming to be the last man standing as the era of outlaws fades away.

2. Discover New Secrets Across the Vast States

Find Rare Collectibles and Creepy Encounters

Perhaps farming isn’t suitable for John Marston, in that case, it’s time to mount up and journey towards the eastern states – New Hanover, Ambarino, and Lemoyne. John’s tale is just starting, so saddle up and explore fresh and familiar adventures awaiting you out there.

Should all the available side-quests involving strangers be finished, there’s still plenty of thrill left to discover, as there lie hidden gems scattered throughout every region – unique interactions, treasures tucked away in secret nooks and crannies within shadowy caverns that will transform John into a seasoned explorer.

1. Fill Arthur’s Journal With Animals, Fish, and Strange Locations

Exploring the East is Weird and Beautiful, and Helps Complete the Compendium

In the Compendium within “Red Dead Redemption 2”, you’ll discover a wealth of activities. From various creatures to observe, to rare animals to hunt known as Legendary Animals, and even Legendary Fish to catch – there’s an abundance for players to document in Arthur’s journal given the expansive world of “Red Dead Redemption 2”.

Now that Arthur has passed on, John will complete the journal using his unique writings and drawings, which are notably different from Arthur’s due to John’s lesser talent with a pencil, though he is making an effort. Gamers can discover various peculiar sights and excel as hunters by tracking down more than 200 animals within the game.
