87-Year-Old Ridley Scott Confirms He’ll Film Two Movies In 2025

Ridley Scott has some big plans for 2025.

Known for directing movies like ‘Alien’ and ‘Blade Runner’, this energetic director proved his activity at 87 years old through a conversation with GQ magazine.

In 2025, Scott might decide to slow down his pace of releasing one film per year that he’s been setting for himself.

As I share with you, there’s a possibility we’ll create two films. At the moment of our chat, the intention is to first produce a post-apocalyptic survival tale, titled “The Dog Stars.” Following this, we plan to delve into the captivating story of the Bee Gees with a biopic named “You Should Be Dancing.” If all goes as planned, we’ll commence work on the former in April and start the latter in September.

So you’re looking to up the pace?

“Yeah. And why not? The studios trust me. They say, ‘OK.’ ”

Typically, the phrase “take a break” suggests relaxation and downtime. However, with Ridley, it seems like the pace is accelerating instead. Two films in a single year is quite a challenge. Yet, he’s more than willing to take it on.

What We Know About The Dog Stars

The movie ‘The Dog Stars’ is based on Peter Heller’s 2012 novel with the same title. Here’s a brief summary of the book for those who are curious:

In a post-apocalyptic world, Hig, the protagonist, survives in the Colorado Rockies with his dog Jasper and a small group of survivors. When Hig finds a girl, Bangley, who has been traveling alone, he must decide whether to bring her into their safe haven or risk exposing them all to danger.

Hig’s wife has left, his friends have passed away, and he resides in a deserted airport hangar with his dog, Jasper, and an unpredictable, gun-wielding recluse called Bangley. However, when a stray message crackles through the radio of his 1956 Cessna, the voice sparks a longing within him for a better life beyond their confined boundaries. Daring to venture past the point of no return, he chases the static-filled signal, eventually discovering something that is both superior and inferior to any dreams he could ever nurture.

Initially, Paul Mescal had accepted the lead role of Hig. It seemed the star and Ridley were so enamored with one another after Gladiator II that they immediately wanted to film something else. But Variety reported just last week, on January 7, that Mescal had scheduling conflicts that forced him out of The Dog Star. The rumored replacement was Jacob Elordi. But, as of publication, nothing has been confirmed. I like a good post-apocalyptic movie. 2025 will have 28 Years Later. Then 2026 will get The Dog Star and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. A sequel to I Am Legend is also in the works.

What We Know About The Bee Gees Biopic

Currently, there’s a surge of interest in musical biopics. Interestingly, Paul Mescal had to abandon his role in “The Dog Stars” due to accepting a part in Sam Mendes’s series of Beatles biographies. Each band member will star in their own film, showcasing their unique perspectives. This project is quite extensive and filming for it overlaps with “The Dog Stars.” The movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” ignited this wave of biopics. It had a budget of $50M and earned an astounding $910M. As a result, every studio has been striving to replicate that success. This is why we’ve seen the release of the Elton John biopic (“Rocket Man”), the Bob Dylan picture (“A Complete Unknown”), and the Robbie Williams flick (“Better Man”). Although The Bee Gees weren’t as famous as The Beatles, they have sold an impressive 220 million records, making them one of the most successful British musicians. As of now, there’s no casting news for “You Should Be Dancing,” but the screenplay is written by John Logan, known for writing films like “Alien: Covenant,” “Skyfall,” and “Hugo.
