8BitDo's Mobile Controller Available for Preorder on Amazon

As a seasoned gamer with decades of controller-wielding experience under my belt, I must say that the 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller has certainly piqued my interest. Coming from a company known for its expertise in the controller space, this compact device promises to elevate mobile gaming to new heights.

8BitDo has entered the fray of mobile game controllers, and its debut model, the 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller, is now up for preorder. This controller aims to rival the Backbone One and Razer Kishi V2. The allure lies in 8BitDo’s proficiency in the controller industry, as it combines a commitment to both top-notch construction and exceptional performance in mobile gaming. The controller is offered in two color options: black and white, and it adopts an Xbox-style asymmetrical joystick arrangement.

When folded, the 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller resembles a broader version of an Xbox controller, featuring a similar button arrangement. The joysticks are positioned asymmetrically, and there’s a D-pad on the left side. In addition to the regular buttons, it includes two paddle buttons at the rear and a specific profile button. All these elements can be assigned and customized using the 8BitDo Ultimate Software.

8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller links up via Bluetooth to Android devices running Android 9.0 and above. In terms of compatibility, it’s designed to fit most smartphones, with a size range between approximately 100mm to 170mm. For comparison, the Galaxy S24 Ultra measures around 163mm in length. Unlike controllers such as the Razer Kishi or Backbone One, this one doesn’t have a USB Type-C connection, which makes it simpler to slide your phone into place.

The 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller shines with its Hall effect joysticks and triggers, offering increased accuracy and durability compared to traditional potentiometer-controlled alternatives. It appears that Hall effect technology has become a preferred choice in the industry, and 8BitDo has been utilizing this tech for quite some time. Additionally, there are two customizable buttons on the back of the controller, which can be reprogrammed using software according to personal preference. The triggers can also be adjusted to respond faster, while the joysticks can be fine-tuned for greater precision.

The 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller is equipped with a battery capacity of 350mAh, which the company claims can last for as long as 15 hours. If the controller does come close to this duration, it provides ample gaming time, boasting a good battery life that can be recharged in just 1.5 hours through the USB Type-C port located at the top. The controller itself weighs only 236 grams, keeping the total weight impact minimal.

Although 8BitDo’s official site only mentions Android compatibility for this controller, its Bluetooth connectivity suggests it can also work with iOS devices. Previously, some older 8BitDo controllers have functioned with iOS devices. However, just because a controller may operate with an iOS device doesn’t guarantee it will be included in the list of supported controllers that sync with the 8BitDo Ultimate Software on iOS. This could mean you won’t be able to customize settings for your controller using this software if it isn’t listed.
