In this scenario, you have the opportunity to embody a hero or a villain, tailoring your persona extensively through various options. You join forces with iconic DC characters to thwart the wicked schemes of Brainiac.
In DC Universe Online, teams of eight players journey across the DC universe landscape, encountering both legendary heroes and villains along the way. These adventures, known as raids, are categorized into six levels of challenge, with each level offering progressively better prizes in the form of currencies and loot.

As an ardent Elder Scrolls fan, I can’t help but feel the vastness of Tamriel’s world swallow me whole. With The Elder Scrolls 6 yet to be fully baked and Skyrim continually re-emerging like a phoenix, it seems that my fellow fans and I are left with only one tantalizing option: diving into the immersive realm of its MMORPG.
Ever since its debut back in 2014, I’ve been immersed in The Elder Scrolls Online, stepping into the colossal realm of Tamriel as a fresh, one-of-a-kind character. It’s like revisiting familiar territories from past games, but this time around, it’s all about my own adventure!
From an avid gamer’s perspective, The Elder Scrolls Online boasts a unique feature known as Trials – essentially, its high-level raid content designed for 12 brave adventurers. These dungeons demand teamwork, strategic coordination, and carefully crafted builds to conquer. And let’s not forget the enticing reward: rare and potent loot that makes the effort truly worthwhile!
5. Star Wars: The Old Republic
In A Galaxy, Far, Far Away…
Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place centuries prior to the movie events, during the historical era when the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic were at odds with each other.
The game allows players to assume any role they prefer, and unlike many other MMORPGs, they don’t need to devote an excessive amount of time. Since its debut, it has been continually upgraded, offering a substantial amount of content within the core game that caters well to casual gamers.
In simpler terms, Operations in SWTOR are similar to raids, where groups consisting of 8 or 16 individuals can engage in challenging missions at three levels of difficulty – the regular storyline, a more difficult mode called Veteran Mode, and the most demanding level known as Master Mode.
Every individual contributes uniquely in these Operations, regardless if they’re on the side of Jedi or Sith. It’s essential that we all cooperate to tackle greater challenges together.
4. Lost Ark
A Visually Striking MMO
Mainly geared towards Player vs Environment (PvE) gameplay and exploration, the recently launched action RPG known as “Lost Ark” features Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) elements. It initially debuted in South Korea at the end of 2019, with its release for global players taking place after 2022.
Incorporating six distinct characters, Lost Ark offers an extensive and interactive battle system, as well as stunning graphics. Notably, the game’s end-game content is particularly challenging and engaging.
In the game, the Legion Raids serve as the main end-game player versus environment (PvE) challenge. Here, you engage in fierce battles against the Demon Legion Commanders and their troops, with certain bosses boasting colossal health pools numbering in billions and intricate puzzles that are mind-bogglingly complex.
Many experienced players of World of Warcraft find the raids in Lost Ark to be significantly more challenging, whether this is seen as advantageous or not.
3. Final Fantasy XIV
A World Reborn
As a dedicated gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but sing the praises of Final Fantasy XIV. This relatively new addition to the MMORPG scene is rapidly gaining traction due to its depth and breadth being reminiscent of the venerable titan, World of Warcraft.
In simpler terms, Final Fantasy 14 offers an immersive narrative, deep background details, and complex character progression systems. Similar to most MMORPGs, it requires time and effort to advance, which can be quite gradual at times.
In the MMO game Final Fantasy 14, players can engage in a variety of challenging raids, with each one offering a distinct test for groups ranging from 8 to an impressive 24 members.
No matter how tough they may be, raids serve as an essential test for every Final Fantasy XIV player, as overcoming them necessitates careful planning, understanding, and teamwork.
2. Destiny 2
Wipe For Damage
Destiny 2, one of the more contentious MMOs on the list, has faced challenges with its player base due to issues such as sunsetting, removal of content, and inconsistency in the quality of expansions, leading many players to become disillusioned with this MMO FPS game.
Even though it may not always have the best rapport with its players, Destiny 2 offers robust gameplay mechanics and an expansive universe filled with years of intriguing content to uncover.
Despite having competitive Player vs Player (PvP) aspects, what really sets this first-person shooter (FPS) apart is its engaging endgame Player versus Environment (PvE) content, especially the raids designed for teams of six. Each raid introduces a distinct mechanic that players must master to either progress or initiate the boss damage phase.
Regardless of a raid’s fame or fanbase, each one always features at least one standout battle experience and exotic loot rewards that motivate players to return weekly.
Currently, there are nine raids (three accessible for free players), remaining active within the game. With the conclusion of the Light and Dark Saga, it’s possible that we may see additional ones introduced in either Apollo or Behemoth.

World of Warcraft remains unmatched in raid content due to its status as a trailblazer, pioneering raid mechanics in MMORPGs and effectively setting the standard for all subsequent games in this genre.
As someone who’s been gaming for over two decades now, I can confidently say that World of Warcraft has truly mastered the art of designing intricate and immersive raids. These epic encounters can accommodate a dynamic range of players, from just a handful to a full-blown army of 30.
Approximately 50 World of Warcraft (WoW) raids remain active, with the latest one introduced in December 2024, and another hinted at not too long before that.
