9 Deadliest Titans of Attack on Titan Anime Series (Ranked)

The popular anime Attack on Titan recently concluded with a mix of triumph and sadness, but fans are still arguing about which Titan was the most powerful. Let’s take a closer look at all Nine Titans and their incredible abilities, even amidst the destruction and heartbreak of the series.

The anime did a great job of showing how each Titan was powerfully destructive, with its own particular strengths and weaknesses. Some viewers believe a Titan’s power comes more from the skill of the person controlling it, rather than the Titan’s inherent abilities. Though becoming a Titan Shifter is a terrible fate – they can still be killed quickly and brutally – our ranking focuses on the raw power of each Titan itself, not just the abilities of the person inside. We’re judging them based on their combat strength, not the skills of the Shifter.

9. The Cart Titan

The Quadrupedal Menace

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Supreme endurance for multiple consecutive transformations
  • Capacity to maintain the Titan form over extended periods of time
  • Superior speed
  • Outstanding agility
  • Compatibility with body armor and mounted weaponry
  • Opportunity for its Titan Shifter to speak in the transformed state
  • Poor natural defense capabilities
  • Psychological strain on users when transformed for extensive periods of time
  • Slow regeneration
  • Inferior physical combat power due to the quadrupedal body position and a smaller body size
  • Dependence on a team to man any equipped armaments
  • Vulnerable anatomy at the nape of the neck

The Cart Titan is a fearsome, four-meter-tall weapon known for its incredible destructive power. It’s a dangerous opponent to both humans and other Titans. Equipped with powerful cannons and surprising speed, this relatively small Titan has become a key asset in Marley’s ongoing wars.

When compared to the other Nine Titans, the Cart Titan is relatively weak. It’s closer in strength to a normal Aberrant Titan, lacking the height and special abilities that make the other nine so powerful. Essentially, while useful for carrying things, it’s the weakest of the main nine Titans.

8. The Jaw Titan

The Dancing Nutcracker

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Excellent speed
  • Superb agility
  • Sharp claws
  • Powerful jaws
  • Limited endurance
  • Inability to shift frequently
  • Minimal raw strength and a humble body size
  • Vulnerable anatomy at the nape of the neck

The Jaw Titan is a terrifying force, known for its incredible speed and destructive power. It’s like a wild, relentless creature that can tear through almost any material – even incredibly strong substances like crystal and the armor of other Titans. It’s essentially a compact, incredibly dangerous set of teeth and claws.

This incredibly aggressive Titan is significantly more powerful than others, particularly those that are less agile. Furthermore, if combined with the Beast Titan’s spinal fluid, it could potentially gain the ability to fly.

Despite its frightening appearance, the Jaw Titan isn’t very strong compared to other Titan Shifters. It’s easily stopped because it lacks natural armor, isn’t particularly powerful, and is relatively small, standing only five meters tall. This is clearly demonstrated when the Attack Titan completely destroys the Jaw Titan and even uses its head to crack the Warhammer Titan.

7. The Armored Titan

The Ultimate Shield

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Capacity for hardening and hardened skin that acts as plate armor and claws
  • Fast regeneration
  • The ability to withstand the Colossal Titan’s heat blast
  • An impressive body size
  • A well-guarded nape of the neck
  • Slow speed
  • Susceptibility to Thunder Spears and anti-Titan artillery
  • Exposed joint anatomy
  • Poor heat displacement
  • Limited mobility unless armor is reduced

It’s often discussed just how strong the Armored Titan really is, as it has both advantages and disadvantages. While it might not be the best in a direct fight compared to other powerful Titans, it’s still quite capable. The Armored Titan excels at delivering powerful blows, withstanding intense heat, and protecting others.

While the Armored Titan is a powerful fighter against humans, it doesn’t stand much of a chance against other Titans. It’s suffered many defeats at the hands of the Attack Titan in some of the most brutal battles in the anime, proving it’s more effective in one specific role than a versatile all-rounder.

6. The Beast Titan

The Animorph Giant

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Hardening
  • Potential for wielding sharp teeth, claws, horns, wings, etc.
  • Capacity for flight
  • A faculty for speech, depending on the animal form
  • Regeneration
  • Aptitude for fighting at closer and longer ranges alike, depending on animal traits
  • Animal forms that lack significant combat potential
  • Speed is determined by the animal form
  • Strength hinges on the animal form
  • Combat styles are heavily influenced by animal traits
  • Vulnerable anatomy at the nape of the neck, despite the hardening ability

The Beast Titan is unusually tall and brings a savage, animalistic quality to battles. However, its brutality is limited by the nature of the animal it transforms into.

For example, previous Beast Titans showed animal-like features such as wings, horns, and claws. This variety gave each Titan user different strengths and weaknesses in battle.

No matter what animal characteristics a Beast Titan gains, its strength ultimately depends on the skills of the person who transformed into it. This means Beast Titans can range in power – some are relatively weak, like the Cart Titan, while others can become incredibly strong, rivaling even the most powerful Titans like the Founding Titan.

5. The Attack Titan

The Advancing Berserker

Strengths Weaknesses
  • The ability to see into the past as well as the future inheritor’s memories
  • Manipulation of the past inheritor’s memories
  • Unyielding willpower and perseverance
  • Immense brute strength
  • Superior speed
  • High endurance against attacks
  • A highly adaptable fighting style
  • Regeneration confines
  • Limited number of transformations
  • Lack of armor
  • High risk of going berserk after frequent transformations
  • Vulnerable anatomy at the nape of the neck

The Attack Titan is central to Eren’s story, relentlessly fighting for freedom and forging its own destiny. While relatively small, it’s a formidable opponent, possessing the unique ability to glimpse and slightly change the memories of past Titan Shifters. Its strength lies in its speed, agility, durability, and, later on, the ability to harden its body – a skill learned from the Armor Titan.

Even though the Attack Titan is a powerful fighter with many natural advantages, it does have a significant weakness. Its combat ability is only average because it lacks natural armor, can’t transform very much, and is prone to uncontrollably attacking its allies if used for too long.

4. The Female Titan

The Adaptable Mimic

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Selective crystallization of the Titan’s body parts
  • Crystallization of the Titan Shifter
  • Significant hardening that makes the nape of the neck resilient against attacks
  • Excellent speed
  • High mobility
  • Impressive endurance
  • Capacity to mimic the abilities of other Titans after ingesting their parts
  • The Titan scream that can attract pure Titans
  • Prowess at middle and close combat ranges
  • The Titan scream puts the Titan Shifter at risk of getting eaten
  • Crystallizing the Titan Shifter renders them incapacitated
  • Low stamina for repeated transformations
  • Vulnerable to getting overwhelmed by multiple opponents
  • Unable to run for long periods of time
  • Inability to crystallize an entire body or large parts, similar to the Armored Titan
  • The nape of the neck remains vulnerable unless it gets crystallized in time

The Female Titan is unique because she’s incredibly adaptable in battle, more so than other Titans. She excels in close and medium-range combat, which is why she became a top solo fighter for Marley. Her past fights against the Attack Titan and Armored Titan prove she’s a formidable opponent and can handle herself well in a fight.

Even though characters in Attack on Titan often need to be quick-thinking to survive, simply being adaptable isn’t enough when fighting Titans. The Female Titan, despite her abilities like hardening her skin and using a sonic scream, repeatedly lost in close combat. These powers, while seemingly helpful, actually had drawbacks and weren’t always strategically beneficial.

3. The Colossal Titan

The Rumbling God of Destruction

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Massive size
  • Immense physical strength
  • Steam control and emission
  • Instant evaporation
  • Controlled explosive transformation
  • Very slow speed
  • Significantly reduced agility due to its size
  • A mobility-hindering size
  • Titan Shifters are vulnerable to falls without ODM gear in the event they use instant evaporation
  • Steam production reduces the Titan’s muscle mass
  • Very limited number of transformations
  • Vulnerable anatomy at the nape of the neck

The Colossal Titan is arguably the most recognizable of the Nine Titans, and incredibly difficult to defeat. It’s not just its massive size that makes it powerful; it can also emit and control steam, transform explosively, and possesses tremendous strength. Unless you have the Armored Titan’s defenses, surviving its intense heat blast is nearly impossible.

I’ve observed that, like the other Titans, the Colossal Titan has a significant weakness. Its massive size, while intimidating, actually hinders it. What’s even more concerning is that it constantly emits steam, meaning it’s essentially racing against time. It needs to wear down its enemies quickly, or its own body will start to break apart before it can win.

2. The Warhammer Titan

The Ultimate Weapon

Strengths Weaknesses
  • An impenetrable crystal shell
  • Versatile hardening into weapons and structures
  • The Titan’s body lends itself to remote operation
  • An alternative weak spot that is harder to locate
  • The Titan Shifter has limited mobility within the crystal
  • Abilities require a lot of stamina to maintain
  • The cable connection between the Titan Shifter and the Titan is a weak spot
  • The crystal remains immovable when the Titan is active

The Warhammer Titan is an impressive figure in the anime, known for its mastery of weaponry and ability to harden its body. What makes it so dangerous is its protection against the usual weakness of Titans – a strike to the back of the neck. By creating weapons and barriers with its hardened form, it’s incredibly difficult to defeat, except by the Jaw Titan or the Founding Titan.

Despite its incredible strength and smart tactics, the Warhammer Titan has a significant weakness: it relies on the crystal inside its Titan Shifter and can run out of stamina. While it poses a tough challenge to the Attack Titan, clever strategies can still lead to victory.

1. The Founding Titan

The Progenitor of Titans

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Creating Wall Titans and Pure Titans
  • Modifying the anatomy of Eldians
  • Manipulating and erasing memories of all Eldians
  • Summoning the husks of all past Titans of Ymir
  • The ability to see the past, the present, and the future at once
  • Universal control over all Subjects of Ymir
  • Capacity for utilizing abilities while being in the human form
  • Telepathic connection to all Eldians
  • King Karl Fritz’s vow to renounce the war prevents the use of the Titan’s power for combat and self-defense
  • Using the clairvoyance ability for extensive periods can cause mental instability of the Titan Shifter
  • The Titan’s power requires the Titan Shifter to be of royal blood
  • Ineffective against non-Eldian people and those of the Ackerman bloodline

The Founding Titan is easily the most powerful of all the Titans. Its incredible strength comes from a unique set of abilities. It can initiate the devastating Rumbling, control the paths that connect all Eldians, and create a massive army of Pure Titans – just to name a few of its advantages.

Most fans agree the Doomsday Titan is among the most dangerous enemies in Attack on Titan. Surprisingly, even with the combined power of numerous Titan Shifters from across the series, it took someone not from the Eldian people to finally defeat it. The Founding Titan’s primary limitation is that it can’t predict what those outside its control will do.
