Shonen anime is known for its action and fighting, making combat a central part of the experience. As a result, these shows often feature incredibly powerful abilities and techniques.
Like many anime of this type, some attacks are much more effective than others, usually belonging to the most powerful characters. This article will explore the strongest finishing moves in Shonen anime – those capable of ending a battle with a single hit.
Zanka no Tachi Is Yamamoto’s Legendary Bankai
Anime: Bleach
Yamamoto’s Bankai is widely considered the strongest offensive ability in the entire Bleach series, representing the peak of fire-based Zanpakuto power. Its heat reaches an incredible 15 million degrees, so intense that it doesn’t simply burn opponents – it instantly vaporizes them. Even without actively fighting, the flames are hot enough to scorch the entire Soul Society, and even a brief touch can cause massive cracks in the earth.
United States Of Smash Is A Highly Powerful Attack
Anime: My Hero Academia
The United States of Smash is All Might’s ultimate move, representing the peak of his One For All Quirk. He focuses all his power into one devastating punch, creating an incredibly strong attack that leaves a huge crater and even generates a small tornado. Using this move pushed All Might to his absolute limit.
Night Guy Almost Killed A God
Anime: Naruto
Madara’s most powerful form was nearly unstoppable, with the entire Shinobi alliance unable to effectively fight him because he could deflect almost any ninja technique. Recognizing that close-combat fighting was one of Madara’s few vulnerabilities, Guy pushed himself to the limit by opening the Eighth Gate, unleashing his devastating attack, Night Guy. This attack pushed Madara further than anyone since Hashirama, even earning a grudging acknowledgment of Guy’s strength. Had Night Guy not been so physically demanding, Guy might have been able to finish Madara off with a second strike.

The Bajrang Gun Dwarfed An Entire Island
Anime: One Piece
I’ve noticed that One Piece doesn’t usually focus on overwhelmingly strong attacks, but Luffy’s Bajrang Gun was something else. With his Gear 5 transformation, he expanded his fist to an unbelievable size – bigger than the entire island of Onigashima! – and covered it in advanced Haki. The resulting punch completely demolished the island and sent Kaido plummeting to the bottom of Wano. It was by far the most powerful attack we’ve seen in the series so far.
The Domain Expansion Is An Instant Win
Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen
The power system in Jujutsu Kaisen is considered top-tier in the anime world, and its most powerful ability is the Domain Expansion. Only the most skilled sorcerers can use these techniques, and when they do, it almost always guarantees victory. While many Domain Expansions are incredibly strong, anyone who uses one has a huge advantage and is likely to win the fight.
Saitama’s Serious Punch Can Destroy Planets
Anime: One Punch Man
The power levels in the series increase dramatically, and Saitama’s Serious Punch perfectly illustrates this. Saitama is incredibly strong and consistently defeats opponents – often with just a normal punch – but his Serious Punch is truly devastating. He’s destroyed planets and defeated galaxy-level threats with a single hit, establishing him as one of the most powerful characters in anime.
The Super Tengen Toppa Giga Drill Break Is Impossibly Large
Anime: Gurren Lagann
The anime features giant robots, and the final fight against the Anti-Spiral grew to an unbelievably large scale – beyond universes. The finishing move, the Giga Drill Break, is similar to how it appears throughout the series, but its power is immense because everything involved – the drill itself and the battle around it – is thousands of times bigger than entire universes. This makes the Giga Drill Break capable of destroying whole realities.
Hakai Is The Power To Erase Things From Existence
Anime: Dragon Ball Super
As a huge Dragon Ball fan, I’m convinced that Hakai is the most powerful ability in the whole series! It’s the signature move of the Gods of Destruction, and what’s amazing is how straightforward it is – they can just erase anything from existence, seriously, anything! We’ve seen Beerus wipe out beings that aren’t even physical, which is mind-blowing. But the ultimate version? Definitely Grand Zeno’s. He casually erased an entire universe with it, making it possibly the strongest technique ever shown in anime. It’s just unbelievably powerful!
Gold Experience Requiem Is The Greatest Ability Of All
Anime: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Part 5: Golden Wind
Gold Experience was already a very strong ability, but its evolved form, achieved with the Requiem Arrow, made it arguably the most powerful of all time. Instead of a typical attack, Gold Experience Requiem can negate any action taken against its user, effectively resetting it to nothing. This gives the user control over cause and effect, protecting them from any danger. Furthermore, anyone who attacks the user is subjected to an endless cycle of death, experiencing countless ways to die across all possibilities – making it one of the most overwhelmingly powerful abilities ever seen in anime.
