- Lillard’s return as Stu could provide a shocking and unforgettable twist, adding humor to the storyline and surprising fans.
I’m looking forward to watching Matthew Lillard in “Five Nights At Freddy’s 2”, and I’ve been pondering quite a bit about his potential return as Stu Macher in “Scream 7”. Many fans, like myself, felt that we had seen the end of Stu Macher when Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) appeared to kill him by throwing a TV at him in the initial film from 1996. However, with Roman Bridger (Scott Foley) and other original characters set to reappear in the upcoming sequel, I’m convinced there must be a valid explanation for his inclusion in what promises to be another entertaining and chilling tale.
In previous Scream movies, characters who appeared to have died didn’t actually return. However, fans are speculating about whether Stu is alive or dead in Scream 7, and it remains uncertain which direction the sequel will take. After reading a recent interview with Lillard, I now believe Stu could potentially be still present, but I hope the storyline will be coherent.
Matthew Lillard’s Scream 7 Comments Make Me Wonder About Stu Macher’s Fate

During a chat with Comingsoon.net.com, actor Matthew Lillard disclosed some intriguing insights into the process of making “Scream 7”. He revealed that he had discussions with the movie’s director, Kevin Williamson, about the filming of this horror sequel.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, my heart skipped a beat when Kevin phoned me. I’m buzzing with anticipation, practically bursting with joy at the prospect of returning! Here’s hoping the fans share my excitement and can’t wait to catch a glimpse of their favorite film buff once more.
In the context of Arquette’s return to acting being unexpected, Lillard stated that this was also the case for himself, meaning they both had kept their involvement in the project a secret until its reveal.
“I was definitely not supposed to be announced until the trailer.”
From these comments, it seems like there’s a possibility Stu Macher is still alive. My thoughts have fluctuated on this since learning that Lillard would return. Initially, I believed Stu to be dead because it seemed implausible and confusing for him to have been present throughout the storyline. However, if Lillard had some unanswered questions for Williamson and his appearance was meant to be a surprise in the trailer, then it makes me lean towards the theory that Stu is still around.
It would have been quite a jaw-dropping moment to catch a glimpse of Stu in the Scream 7 trailer without any prior hint or context. If the trailer were to include a vision of Stu for Sidney Prescott or flashback scenes, it might not deliver the same level of shock and anticipation that an unexpected appearance would provide. I believe that such plot twists are more effective if they unfold in the movie itself rather than in the trailer. Given the longevity of the franchise, it’s clear that the aim of the trailer is to create a sense of surprise and excitement, making viewers feel that they absolutely need to watch Scream 7. As Stu is such an amusing character, his reappearance is likely going to be both clever and unforgettable.
I think Stu is the top choice for Ghostface in the new Scream movie, and this alone makes me excited to see him back on screen. I’m curious about how they can bring Stu back logically, but I trust the writers to find a solution. Perhaps there’s a reason why Stu hasn’t appeared for so long, and he feels it’s time to return now. The large cast suggests multiple Ghostfaces, and I’m not sure if making Stu one of them is wise. However, with Sidney being the target of his anger after losing his friend Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), I hope there’s more to Stu’s motivations than just seeking revenge on Sidney. It would be dull and predictable if that were his only goal. Instead, I hope he has some unexpected twists in store.
Matthew Lillard Had Positive Things To Say About Scream 7

During a recent interview, Matthew Lillard mentioned that working with his fellow cast members on the set of Scream 7 felt like catching up with old friends, as Neve Campbell returned to play her character Sidney Campbell once again.
I believe the audience will be thrilled. The feel of this production is reminiscent of classic ‘Scream’, and with such a nostalgic vibe, I’m confident that we are creating something that fans will cherish and admire.
As a fellow Scream fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about Damian Lillard’s role in the slasher sequel. It’s clear he had a great time filming it, and I can’t wait to see how his story unfolds on the big screen. Just like many of us, it feels like an agonizing wait until February 2026!
