Currently, Nintendo is involved in a legal dispute with the creators of Palworld. However, they have also filed a lawsuit against another video game company, but this time, the target isn’t a developer, but an accessory manufacturer.
Nintendo has filed a lawsuit against Genki, a company specializing in video game accessories, due to an early unveiling of the prototype for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The peripheral manufacturer displayed a model of the console before its official presentation.
Nintendo Says Genki Violated Its Switch 2 Trademarks
If you hadn’t heard, Genki exhibited a 3D-printed prototype of the Switch 2 at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. They used this model to demonstrate their future console accessories on display.
In reaction to this, Nintendo has recently taken legal action against Human Things (Genki’s parent company) in a California court. Nintendo alleges that Genki infringed upon their trademarks, and furthermore, leaked sensitive information about the design and specifications of the upcoming Switch 2 model.
Nintendo wasn’t pleased about the “Genki Direct” that was scheduled on the same day as their Switch 2 event. The lawsuit alleges that Genki claimed their accessories would be compatible with the upcoming Switch 2, but this couldn’t be verified without unauthorized and illegal early access to the Switch 2. Essentially, the lawsuit accuses Genki of deceiving and continuing to mislead the public about their products’ compatibility with the Nintendo Switch 2.

In approximately 30 days, the company that owns Genki must address the ongoing lawsuit, coinciding with the global release of the Switch 2 on June 5, 2025.
According to what Nintendo has revealed thus far, they seem to have solid ground to support their claims. Here’s hoping that Genkl stays afloat, as we can’t afford to lose another video game company.
