Sony recently disclosed the top games that PlayStation 5 users downloaded in April 2025, and it’s interesting to note that many of these popular titles were published by Sony’s main rival: Xbox. In this month alone, three exclusive Xbox first-party games were made available on PS5, all of which managed to secure spots within the top 20 most downloaded games for the month. Furthermore, other games owned by Microsoft also made the list.

Monthly, Sony releases download charts for the PlayStation Store, giving us a glimpse into the top games being played by PlayStation gamers across significant regions such as the US, Canada, and Europe. Since Microsoft intensified their multi-platform strategy earlier in 2024, we’ve noticed an increase in Xbox games on the PlayStation download charts. For example, Sea of Thieves was the most popular PS5 game in May 2024. As more Xbox games become available on PlayStation consoles, it appears that Xbox’s software dominance over its main competitor is strengthening.

Last month, games for Xbox took the lead in pre-orders at the PlayStation Store, and they’ve continued their dominance in the April 2025 download charts as well. Data recently published on the PlayStation Blog shows that “The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered” claimed the number one spot for paid PS5 downloads in the US and Canada, an impressive achievement given it was launched just over a week before the end of April. Notably, even against the long-standing chart leader “Minecraft”, which held second place, “The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered” managed to secure the top position. This is another instance where an Xbox-owned game outperformed its competitors.

Forza Horizon 5, Oblivion Remastered, and Minecraft Were the Bestselling PS5 Games in April 2025

In addition, it’s worth noting that Forza Horizon 5, a highly praised open-world racer by Playground Games, also thrived on PS5, securing third place in the April 2025 download charts globally. However, over in Europe, the story was slightly different on the PS5 download charts, with Forza Horizon 5 climbing to the top spot. Oblivion Remastered trailed closely in second place, and Minecraft took third. The speed at which Forza Horizon 5 sold on PS5 is particularly noteworthy as it launched on April 29, which was just one day before the month ended.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Also Charted Well Among PS5’s Top Downloads

Besides the three games mentioned, some additional Xbox-owned titles also appeared among the top downloads for the PlayStation 5 in April 2025. MachineGames’ Indiana Jones and the Great Circle did exceptionally well on PS5 after its release on April 17, securing the 11th spot in the US/Canada chart and the 8th position in the European chart. Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 followed closely, reaching 7th place in the US/Canada chart and 10th in Europe. In the free-to-play category, Call of Duty: Warzone took second place in the US, Canada, and Europe, trailing just behind Fortnite.

It’s quite extraordinary to observe Xbox first-party games leading the charts among top-selling PS5 titles, a sight that undoubtedly brings Microsoft great satisfaction as their multiplatform strategy seems to be paying off. Peering into the future, 2025 will witness a barrage of Xbox games hitting the PS5 market. For instance, “Doom: The Dark Ages” is scheduled for May 15, followed by “Gears of War: Reloaded” on August 26, and “The Outer Worlds 2” towards the end of the year.
