Cardano Foundation Debut PRAGMA to Drive Open-Source Project Development

The Cardano Foundation, along with Blink Labs, dcSpark, Sundae Labs, and TxPipe, have revealed the establishment of PRAGMA, an new, charitable organization aimed at advancing open-source blockchain software initiatives.

Cardano Foundation and PRAGMA: Focus and Targets

Renagh Moone, the Global Communications Director at PRAGMA, made an announcement in a post about the organization’s official launch. This milestone was marked by the signing of PRAGMA’s statutes. The new entity aims to create an environment that encourages collaboration among developers and enables them to advance open-source technologies.

The partnership intends to establish a resilient and self-sustaining environment for Cardano and related blockchain systems, encouraging a community-based methodology for writing and updating software.

PRAGMA initially aims to assist and motivate ongoing open-source initiatives in the Cardano community, as well as fostering the creation of innovative new tools and technologies. This goal will be pursued through a methodical and gradual process, implementing projects in stages.

The Amaru project will get underway first. In this initiative, we’ll construct a Cardano full node using Rust. This new node can function simultaneously with existing Haskell nodes, ensuring seamless interoperability between them. Cardano places great emphasis on interoperability, as demonstrated by its W3C-compliant Identity Wallet that was released in December of 2023.

An alternative initiative is Aiken, a user-friendly smart contract platform for Cardano, aimed at streamlining and enhancing the process of creating smart contracts.

Planned Expansion and Collaboration

Industry reports indicate that PRAGMA intends to expand its membership base to more developers within the Cardano community during its 2025 phase. This move aims to boost collaboration, encourage new ideas, and create a welcoming atmosphere for a diverse range of software creators.

Sebastian Bode, Engineering Director at the Cardano Foundation and PRAGMA Board Member, emphasized that PRAGMA is vital in the Cardano Foundation’s goal to make Cardano a publicly used infrastructure. He underscoreed that PRAGMA’s team is united in their ambition to popularize blockchain technology.

Frederik Gregaard, CEO of the Cardano Foundation, also commented that PRAGMA marks an important step forward in enhancing the open-source development maturity of Cardano. The foundation is dedicated to fostering collaborative projects which contribute valuable and innovative solutions to the blockchain sector.

The arrival of PRAGMA will significantly support Cardano’s ongoing development. According to its founder, Charles Hoskinson, his innovative concepts could synergistically advance Input Output Global’s (IOG) strategic goals in the future.
