As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at how Stardew Valley, with its vast array of farm animals, has earned its place among the all-time great farming sims. While many of the creatures you meet on your farm are familiar faces, it’s the unexpected ones that really make this game shine. To keep things fresh and exciting, I believe introducing a few more unique animal species could breathe new life into the gameplay experience.
In Stardew Valley, animals ranging from common horses and pigs to peculiar void chickens and dinosaurs play a significant role in the gameplay. Unlike other farming sims that primarily focus on crop growth without simulating livestock management as real farmers do, this game offers an engaging experience by incorporating both real-life and fantastical livestock. This feature provides players with more opportunities to make money, decorate their farm, and engage in activities when living their idealized farming life. Despite the variety of animals already available for players to nurture and interact with, introducing a few new creatures could enhance the game in ways that players may not anticipate.
5 Animals Stardew Valley Needs to Add
Alpacas
In Stardew Valley, introducing alpacas could be a means to further develop the game’s wool-related aspects. In reality, alpacas are often reared for their wool as an alternative to sheep’s wool. Alpaca fiber is generally softer, lighter, and hypoallergenic, making it popular among many. However, this desirability comes at a cost, as alpaca wool is more expensive than that of sheep. In the game, alpacas could be pricier to acquire and produce wool less frequently than sheep. Yet, their wool might fetch a higher price when sold. Furthermore, different types of alpacas could be rarer and provide rare items, similar to how void chickens do in the game. Lastly, it’s worth mentioning that alpacas are incredibly adorable and fluffy!
Turkeys
Among ducks, chickens, and ostriches, it seems like one bird is still absent from Stardew Valley. Turkeys, a commonly farmed bird not yet included in the game, could make an excellent addition to any player’s farm in Stardew Valley. To complement these new turkeys, a fresh festival or mini-festival could be introduced, mimicking the spirit of Thanksgiving. Since players can’t cook food from their animals in Stardew Valley, this celebration would primarily honor the turkeys and other birds. Moreover, their eggs and mayonnaise made from them could become new artisan goods and potentially even be used in Turkey Day festivities.
Mice or Rats
In the true world, mice and rats serve an extraordinary function within society. While some view them as charming pets, others perceive them merely as nuisances to be controlled. On farms, they are generally seen as harmful pests that can spoil crops and transmit diseases detrimental to other farm animals. In the game Stardew Valley, these critters could be incorporated in various ways. Introducing them as a challenge for players would stimulate their creativity in devising humane methods to manage these pesky creatures. One approach might involve establishing a designated zone on the farm where they can live peacefully as pets in Stardew Valley. This could necessitate sacrificing some of the player’s crops to feed their new wards, but this sacrifice could bring fresh types of rewards for cultivating a strong bond with these unusual pets.
Owls
In essence, owls are present within the game’s setting, yet only a select few players of Stardew Valley manage to witness them. Occasionally, on specific nights, there’s a 1% probability of an owl’s shadow passing across the night sky. This visual event is uncommon, however, the game contains unused data files of fully detailed owl models due to this infrequent occurrence.
In this game, you’ll find enigmatic owl statues that players can add as ornaments. It’s peculiar because these creatures aren’t normally found in the game world. With all these features already present, it seems like owls might have been excluded during development somehow. If they are added in future updates, particularly alongside mice or rats, owls could serve both as pets and deterrents. Having an owl on your farm would help keep other birds and rodents away from the crops you’re diligently tending to.
Alligators
In the world of Stardew Valley, reptiles have been overlooked and underrepresented. At present, no living reptile holds a significant role in the game, though dinosaurs and their eggs do make an appearance. However, the absence of modern-day aquatic lizards is a missed opportunity. While snakes, salamanders, or even pet bearded dragons could fill this void, alligators stand out as the most fitting addition to the game.
Enemies can be encountered lurking around and inside the sewers within “Stardew Valley,” providing additional opportunities for challenging encounters. Upon being defeated, these enemies may drop an egg, which, like any ordinary egg, can either be used to create a potentially unpleasant mayo or incubated into an alligator on your farm. Although introducing such a ferocious creature among your livestock could pose a risk, the potential benefits of selling their eggs, teeth, and other items would likely outweigh the danger.
It’s Unclear If Stardew Valley Will Ever Add More Animals
Eric Barone hasn’t explicitly stated his intentions to introduce new animals into Stardew Valley with future updates. Instead, he has chosen to put the project aside to focus on Haunted Chocolatier, a new title. However, there may be a Stardew Valley sequel down the line. If a complete follow-up to Stardew Valley were to come out, it would need to offer more than just an update to the original game and justify its title and cost. The addition of new animals could serve as an excellent foundation for this additional content.
