- Physint, Kojima’s upcoming action-espionage game, is expected to take five to six years to complete.
- Once Physint and Death Stranding 2 are released, Kojima plans to explore a long-awaited move into film direction.
Hideo Kojima, creator of the hugely successful espionage series Metal Gear, has shared that its successor, known as Physint, is expected to be developed over the next five to six years. While this may seem like a long wait for fans of Metal Gear, they can look forward to new content related to the beloved franchise in the meantime. Moreover, Kojima hinted at his future ventures in film direction as well.
In recent times, Hideo Kojima has primarily been engaged with his project, the action-exploration game “Death Stranding,” but he remains widely recognized for creating the “Metal Gear” series. Developed under Konami, this franchise became a cornerstone of the stealth-action genre, pioneering innovative ideas in narrative, cinematic style, and gameplay. The original game was launched in 1987, introducing the character Solid Snake who has since become an icon. However, it was during the PlayStation 1 era with the release of “Metal Gear Solid” that the series truly gained popularity. This update on the franchise took advantage of new 3D graphics technology. Although a remake of “Metal Gear Solid 3” is due later this year, Kojima has yet to announce plans for more games in the series—apart from “Physint.” Though not an official “Metal Gear” game, it’s seen as Kojima’s return to the action-espionage genre, but fans will have to wait a significant amount of time before they can play it.
In a chat with Le Film Français (a French magazine), Hideo Kojima, through translator Red Kong XIX at ResetEra, disclosed that alongside the much-awaited sequel to Death Stranding, another project named Physint is underway. Unfortunately, it seems we’ll have to wait quite a while before this action-spy game becomes available, with an estimated release window of five to six years from now.
Kojima Says Physint Will Take Five to Six Years to Develop
In addition to his aspirations within video game development, acclaimed director Hideo Kojima has mentioned that upon completing these projects, he might venture into filmmaking. With a keen interest in cinema and television, it’s clear that the world of film has left its mark on Kojimetal’s work. This isn’t limited to his lengthy, dialog-driven scenes or his creative use of camera angles; rather, the entire storytelling approach in his games is heavily influenced by cinematic techniques.
Little information has been disclosed about ‘Physint’, except that Kojima conceives it as a “combined experience” where video games and cinema will merge, likening it to something that is simultaneously a game and a movie. Although Physint remains years in the making with development just starting, enthusiasts can anticipate the forthcoming launch of ‘Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’, set for June 26, 2025.
