Nintendo has recently re-registered the trademarks for “Metroid Prime Hunters” and “Metroid Prime 3: Corruption”, sparking speculation that remakes or updated versions of these games could be in development. With the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, Metroid enthusiasts are more excited than ever to learn about the series’ future plans, and these trademark renewals, so close to the system’s release, have only added fuel to the speculation fire.
As a die-hard fan of Nintendo’s epic action-adventure series, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming installment, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, slated for release on the Switch 2 in 2025. Announced back in 2017, this game initially was being developed by Bandai Namco Studios, but it’s now under the care of Retro Studios since 2019, which has undeniably slowed down its production process. A tantalizing glimpse into the game was revealed during a March Nintendo Direct, revealing our heroine Samus Aran with new psychic powers and a snazzy new suit. Although we’re on the brink of finally playing it, Metroid enthusiasts might just have even more reasons to rejoice if recent rumors turn out to be true.
Based on a recent report from Chizai Watch, as noted by Insider Gaming, Nintendo has refreshed the copyrights for the games “Metroid Prime Hunters” and “Metroid Prime 3: Corruption”. This could mean that these beloved titles might be getting updated versions or enhanced editions. “Metroid Prime Hunters”, initially launched in 2006, is often praised by fans as one of the finest spin-off games for the DS era, thanks to its impressive graphics at the time. “Metroid Prime 3: Corruption”, released in 2007 for the Wii, was met with both commercial and critical success, with many considering it the best game in the “Prime” series. Although it’s plausible that Nintendo renewed these copyrights just to secure their intellectual property, there’s a possibility they are preparing to produce more “Metroid” content for their upcoming console.
Trademarks for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Metroid Prime Hunters Renewed by Nintendo
In February, there was a hint suggesting that a fresh 2D Metroid game might emerge in 2025, allegedly being developed by MercurySteam, who worked on Metroid Dread. However, neither confirmation nor denial has been given, although fans are cautious due to the impending release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Yet, considering the enduring appeal of the series, even during quieter times, Nintendo might be eager to revive Samus in various forms.
Although Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t debut as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch game, enthusiasts can anticipate diving into numerous thrilling titles on June 5. These include the remastered version of Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD, the Director’s Cut of Yakuza 0, and Mario Kart World. The precise release date for the latest Metroid game is expected to be announced in the upcoming months.
