Is the Front Man Losing Power in Squid Game Season 3?

Summary

  • Some fan theories suggest Gi-hun may become the next Front Man, changing the power dynamics.
  • The Front Man’s absolute control may be challenged in season 3 by rebellious players or guards.
  • The Front Man’s power could be at risk with potential uprisings, betrayals, and character transformations.

Before the premiere of Squid Game season 3 on June 27, 2025, numerous fan theories have surfaced. While some of these ideas might seem implausible, they can’t be entirely dismissed given the unpredictable nature of this hit series. In fact, some theories propose Gi-hun taking over as the Front Man in future seasons.

In addition to this theory, some speculate that the Lead Character may be relinquishing his unquestionable authority in the last season of the series. While the Lead Character has always wielded power over all the guards, players, and the games collectively, the sneak peeks for the third season hint at potential shifts in power dynamics.

Does the Front Man Really Have Full Power in Squid Game?

Will Everyone Follow His Rules?

The Lead Guard is in charge of all security personnel during the competitions, and has absolute authority over all aspects of their operation. This extends to the participants, special guests, games being played, and many other details. During the event, whatever transpires is ultimately his decision, and he can make adjustments as he sees fit. Whenever a Guard’s identity becomes known, it is the Lead Guard who takes immediate action to eliminate the Guard to maintain secrecy.

It seems that your ability to express yourself effectively has grown. Might this newfound skill be intended for persuading the horse owners, perhaps to halt the upcoming race?

Just like having a top executive in charge, everyone is expected to obey the Front Man’s commands, or face consequences that are more severe than just losing your job or quitting. However, not every participant and security personnel seem keen on adhering to these regulations; some even dare to revolt, such as Gi-hun at the end of season 2. He managed to rally a few other players too, including the Front Man disguised as Young-il, or Player 001. Despite his rebellion not succeeding, Gi-hun and his teammates were able to take down several Guards, giving hope to those who wish to dismantle the Games forever.

In essence, the Front Man’s rule isn’t absolute since disagreements and power struggles are inevitable among his followers. It’s plausible that there are individuals like Kang No-eul from the Pink Guards introduced in season 2, who might challenge the Front Man to end the Games or seek control themselves. However, she can be unpredictable, possibly aiming to eliminate the Front Man while also coveting power. Similarly, the Masked Officer in the black Guard suit could harbor ill feelings towards the Front Man. In the world of Squid Game, no one is immune to danger, not even the Front Man.

Will the Front Man Lose His Power?

Could Someone Take Him Down?

In various scenarios, the Leader of the Games might unexpectedly lose his authority. For instance, Gi-hun could potentially lead a future uprising against him alongside other players, or another character like Kang No-eul or the Masked Officer could challenge and overthrow him. Another possibility is that Hwang In-ho undergoes a transformation and decides to help Gi-hun in a rebellion, thus removing the Leader’s role as the Front Man. Although there’s no evidence pointing towards any of these scenarios, especially given the sneak peeks for season 3, it remains plausible that one or more of these events could unfold.

Peering into the teaser trailer for the upcoming season 3, a brief moment catches my eye: The Front Man, usually unyielding and untouchable, sheds tears in his office. This subtle scene could hint at various scenarios, such as Hwang Jun-ho, his brother, meeting with an unfortunate incident, or the Front Man grappling with remorse and potentially defecting. Until season 3 unfolds, we’ll be left guessing the depths of his emotional turmoil; however, it’s evident that this glimpse reveals chinks in the armor of the Front Man’s unwavering control over the Games.

With the third season being the final installment of “Squid Game,” it seems inevitable that one faction will emerge victorious. This could be the group comprised of players, such as Gi-hun and his allies who may choose to rebel, or the Front Man and the enigmatic organization he represents. Ultimately, someone will likely come out on top in this battle, which could lead to the dismantling of the Games, or they might continue under new leadership. It’s worth noting that the Front Man character may not remain unchanged, and there is a strong chance Hwang In-ho will not make it to the end of the season.

It seems quite possible that the Front Man may eventually lose control over the Games in ‘Squid Game’. This could happen either if he voluntarily joins Gi-hun and the other players in their rebellion, or if someone else takes power against his will. Regardless of how it happens, it’s looking like Hwang In-ho might not have a favorable ending among the main characters. If he does choose to make a selfless sacrifice for Gi-hun’s cause, that could potentially give him a positive and noble exit from the storyline.

Squid Game is available to stream now on Netflix.
