Game Rant is thrilled to unveil an exclusive sneak peek at the vibrant farming simulation game titled “Gaucho and the Grassland“. This charming indie production, set to hit Steam in summer 2025, draws inspiration from cherished classics while offering a unique backdrop.

First unveiled towards the end of 2022, “Gaucho and the Grassland” is the newest creation from Brazilian game studio Epopeia Games. As its title suggests, this game boasts a distinctly South American backdrop inspired by gaucho culture. Although primarily designed as a farming simulation, “Gaucho and the Grassland” also incorporates elements of exploration and construction, giving it a feel similar to a 3D adaptation of “Stardew Valley“, but with low-poly graphics and a South American flavor.

After years in development, the farming simulator game “Gaucho and the Grassland” is almost ready to be released, as Epopeia has officially announced its launch on July 16. To mark this significant milestone, the studio unveiled a release date trailer, which Game Rant is excited to share exclusively with you. The promotional video moves at a fast pace, packing in plenty of diverse footage within its brief 34-second duration. This trailer presents “Gaucho and the Grassland” as a cowboy game, inviting players to assume the role of a “Latin cowboy,” a term often used to describe gauchos.

Gaucho and the Grassland Mixes Zelda and Stardew Valley Inspirations

As a gamer, I can’t help but notice the intentional resemblances between the upcoming game, Epopeia, and two of my favorite titles – Stardew Valley and The Legend of Zelda series. It turns out that the creators have been inspired by ConcernedApe’s farming sim masterpiece, as well as the immersive world exploration found in the Zelda games.

Just like Link traverses various biomes in Hyrule, I can expect a rich and diverse environment to explore within Epopeia, complete with area progression blockers that will challenge me every step of the way. But what truly sets this game apart is its unique fusion of gaucho culture, including elements from Latin American folklore.

In Epopeia, I’ll embark on a thrilling quest to save legendary characters from my beloved folktales, making it an unforgettable journey through time and space.

A Farming Sim Without Agriculture

In periods when they’re not venturing out on exploration, players of Gaucho and the Grassland will concentrate on constructing and growing their livestock farm. Given the details provided by Epopeia thus far, this game won’t involve crop farming as gauchos are primarily cattle herders rather than farmers in a conventional sense. With its unique setting, this design decision sets Gaucho and the Grassland apart from other games in the 2025 market of cozy life and farming sims.

For approximately five years, the game titled “Gaucho and the Grassland” has been under development, as confirmed by a representative from Epopeia. As the extended development period is drawing to a close, the Brazilian studio may soon find themselves with sufficient resources to explore possibilities for additional releases. However, no official announcements have been made in this regard; at present, the life simulation game has only been announced for PC via Steam and can be added to one’s wishlist. A playable demo of Epopeia’s gaucho game has been accessible since June 2023, but pricing details are still undisclosed.
