Isabela Merced, who plays Dina, disclosed that a significant scene from episode 2 where her character and Ellie are sneaking into a grocery store to ambush clickers using sign language was improvised on set. Merced explained that the scene wasn’t explicitly scripted; instead, it was outlined to indicate specific objects like pointing to a bottle and a knife, followed by directing each other’s movements, and then we simply ad-libbed our own language, such as Ellie mimicking cutting her throat with simulated blood effects.

Merced shared that the playful setup provided fans with a glimpse of their authentic selves. Meanwhile, Mazin mentioned that the scene was just the third day on set for Ramsey and Merced, but after observing their undeniable chemistry, he felt reassured about their camaraderie. He added, “I sense this will work out just fine.
