Oblivion Remastered Player Locks Themselves Out of the Main Quest!

This article contains spoilers for Oblivion Remastered

A player of “Oblivion Remastered” inadvertently prevented themselves from finishing the main storyline by exiting Martin and Jauffre at the Bruma Mages Guild before its intended destruction. What sets “Oblivion Remastered” apart as a cherished remake is that it adheres to the same design philosophy as “Diablo 2: Resurrected.” The original game operates under a graphical upgrade, seamlessly blending nostalgic appeal with modern aesthetics.

In revisiting the gameplay of Oblivion Remastered, Virtuos has aimed to preserve the essence of the original 2006 release. Consequently, some of the original bugs and quirks persist in this remake, though many have remained harmless or endearing. Similarly, the multitude of ways a player can disrupt their playthrough in Oblivion Remastered is consistent with the game’s 2006 version – methods that worked then will still function in 2025.

Instead of accompanying Martin and Jauffre during the events of “Weynon Prior” and advancing through the Mages Guild in Oblivion Remastered, Different-Ticket2974 chose to keep these crucial characters, Martin and Jauffre, within Bruma’s Mages Guild. Unfortunately for them, this guild was later destroyed by necromancers after “A Plot Revealed.” Despite the fact that they remain in a doomed world, Different-Ticket2974 has chosen to persist with their current characters, knowing full well the risks involved. However, they also mentioned that they would create another character to complete the main quest.

Oblivion Remastered Player Breaks Their Playthrough

The problem with this issue occurring in Oblivion Remastered can be traced to how the original version handles the game world. Each interior or exterior area is treated as a separate ‘cell.’ Although these cells are typically connected, there are instances where certain interiors change as the game advances. One such example is Bruma’s Mages Guild. By keeping Martin and Jauffre in the old Mages Guild cell, they were disconnected from the rest of the game when that cell was replaced with a new one.

In Oblivion Remastered, there are several methods to rectify certain issues using console commands, yet only PC gamers have access to this feature. Interestingly enough, an ideal pause point for the main storyline occurs when accompanying Martin and Jauffre to Cloud Ruler Temple – a destination that’s just a short walk from Bruma. Consequently, had Different-Ticket2974 finished the last part of their escort duty, they could have prevented disrupting their gameplay experience. All in all, instances such as this contribute to Oblivion being an everlasting sandbox, allowing a new wave of players to immerse themselves in a Bethesda classic.
