Ubisoft’s Secret Rayman AAA Game Could Be the Next Big Comeback!

Summary

  • Ubisoft Milan is working on a new AAA Rayman game, exciting fans who have waited for a mainline title.
  • Recent job postings have opened for a 3D animator to contribute to the project.
  • Ubisoft’s interest in reviving the Rayman franchise could potentially help offset recent financial losses.

As a die-hard Rayman fan, it’s thrilling to learn that Ubisoft Milan appears to be developing a brand new triple-A Rayman game! It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen a mainline installment in the franchise from Ubisoft, and given their successful work on Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, I can’t help but feel they are the ideal team for this project.

Initially launched in 1995, Rayman soon gained classic status. The game’s title saw subsequent sequels in 1999 and 2003, leading up to Rayman Origins in 2011. Although the character remains well-liked, the latest major installment of the Rayman series was Rayman Legends in 2013. However, the character has remained relevant, particularly through his appearances in the successful Raving Rabbids franchise. Notable titles like Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope for the Nintendo Switch were released as recently as 2022.

Lately, archived job listings on Reddit reveal that Ubisoft Milan is hunting for an accomplished 3D Gameplay Animator to contribute to the creation of a highly esteemed AAA game within the Rayman series. The successful candidate will focus on maintaining the quality of the gameplay animation resources, suggesting that this project is a significant AAA title rather than a minor addition to the franchise.

Ubisoft Milan is Working on a New ‘AAA’ Rayman Game

It’s no real shock to find Ubisoft Milan developing a Rayman game, given that last year, Ubisoft announced that Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan were in an “exploration phase” of the Rayman brand, which was still in its early stages. The job posting serves as a reminder of the company’s ongoing commitment to the franchise and suggests a substantial undertaking for the project. Interestingly, the creative director of Mario + Rabbids, Davide Soliani, had expressed interest in creating a Rayman game back in 2023. However, after his departure from the studio in early 2025, many fans have speculated whether those plans were still active.

A significant Rayman endeavor might be beneficial for French publisher Ubisoft. In their latest financial report, Ubisoft has reported substantial losses, amounting to €159 million ($177.9 million) during the fiscal year 2024-2025, representing a 20.5% decrease in net bookings. It’s plausible that revisiting popular franchises like Rayman could help improve their current financial status.

There’s no clear timeline for when a new Rayman game will be released, as it appears to still be in the early phases of production. Given Ubisoft’s decision to postpone some of their major titles until 2026 and 2027, it seems they are taking their time with projects to avoid hasty releases.
