The Rite of the Nine is a fresh take on three previously existing dungeons in Destiny 2, offering new lore and rewards to players who participate. However, it’s important to note that this event will only be available until the release of the The Edge of Fate expansion for Destiny 2 on July 15.
This event provides an additional opportunity for players to test their skills, but it also introduces a less complex version of Explorer mode suitable for beginners and casual gamers. Although it doesn’t offer as many rewards as the Eternity or Ultimate difficulties, many find the tradeoff worthwhile due to its relaxed approach to Destiny 2’s endgame content. In fact, it is strongly suggested that Explorer mode should become a regular feature in Destiny 2’s endgame content moving forward. While some might argue for the entire Rite of the Nine event to be permanent, at minimum, the inclusion of Explorer mode is highly recommended.
Destiny 2’s New Explorer Difficulty Should Become a Staple for Endgame Content




It’s generally agreed that the single-player experience in Destiny 2 wasn’t its strongest point since it was first launched in 2017. Yet, there have been significant enhancements to this aspect over time, with one of the most remarkable being the new Explorer difficulty introduced in the Rite of the Nine event for Destiny 2.
Explorer Mode is a Game Changer for the Solo Player Experience in Destiny 2
In the three dungeons during the Rite of the Nine event, the Explorer level provides a less pressure-filled setting for players to familiarize themselves with the gameplay mechanics and fully immerse in these activities without any major repercussions. Generally, enemies at this difficulty are less powerful, failed encounters don’t restart upon player death, there is an unlimited number of resuscitations, and puzzle elements come with clear instructions and navigation markers to aid the players.
In Explorer mode during the Rite of the Nine event, you can play on your own, but it’s also enjoyable when teamed up with either two or three other players.
While Explorer mode certainly has less difficulty, it’s important to note that the rewards are significantly smaller compared to Eternity or Ultimatum settings. For instance, players won’t be able to obtain the Dungeon’s unique Exotic weapon and its Catalyst, nor can they complete Triumphs exclusive to the Dungeons. Additionally, there will be fewer loot chests scattered throughout the Dungeon, and the new Rite of the Nine weapons from these chests will have fewer perk options and a reduced chance of having the rare Holofoil cosmetic skin.
However, considering that Explorer mode allows players to gain firsthand experience with some of Destiny 2’s endgame content, it could prove beneficial for newcomers. This is why many believe that Explorer mode should be a regular feature in future updates.
Destiny 2’s Explorer Mode Could Bridge the Gap For Endgame Content
It’s strongly argued that Explorer mode should be accessible in every Dungeon within Destiny 2, not just limited to them. Moreover, it would be fitting to expand its usage to all endgame activities across the game, particularly Raids, Exotic Missions, Nightfall Strikes, Seasonal activities, and more. This addition could offer a unique, firsthand exploration opportunity for players without compromising the challenging, blind experience cherished by hardcore gamers who prefer this kind of gameplay.
With the upcoming arrival of Solo Ops playlist in Destiny 2’s The Edge of Fate expansion, it’s possible that the Explorer mode could become increasingly popular. This could mark a significant shift towards making the game more inclusive for solo players as well as newcomers and less experienced gamers in general. In essence, this new difficulty setting might help bring more players into Destiny 2’s endgame activities, as it stands that only a limited number of players currently engage in Raids and other high-level content.
