A vocation, in this context, serves as a Class where you acquire various abilities that can be utilized in the game world. The game “Fantasy Life i” organizes these Classes into three main categories:

In line with their titles, “Crafting Lives” such as the “Carpenter Life” enable players to create a variety of tools, weapons, and armor using resources acquired through “Gathering Lives.” Consequently, forging high-quality equipment requires dedication in both your Crafting and Gathering endeavors.
Specifically, you should focus on these Lives:
- The Miner Life allows you to break open the ore deposits you’ll see in each overworld of Fantasy Life i. You’ll want to raise your Miner level and get stronger tools and skills to break open the higher-leveled deposits.
- Woodcutter arms you with an axe to hack down a variety of trees to collect different types of wood that can then be turned into materials to make tools.
- Tailoring is sometimes required for making cloth materials that are used in certain armor recipes, such as a Cape.
- Carpenter Life is how you make tools/equipment as well as furniture for your Base Camp and House.
- The Blacksmith Life uses minerals you get via the Miner Life to create ingots, which can then be used to make swords and other ‘metallic’ tools/weapons.

How to Get Good Quality
As a gamer, I know that to craft top-notch equipment, all I need to do is engage with the Crafting Station in my personal Eternia Village HQ. It’s a good idea to upgrade your tools for better results too. For instance, instead of using the basic saw you got at the beginning of the Carpenter Life’s starter quest, consider switching to a more robust Oak Saw.
When you choose an item to create, you’ll spot the Crafting Life symbol accompanied by a figure at the screen’s bottom. This figure represents the Suggested Crafting Levels. On the left side of your screen, you’ll find your current Crafting Levels. To produce a superior item, it’s best if your Crafting Levels are similar to or higher than this number. You can boost your Crafting Levels by advancing, unlocking skills in the Skill Tree, or by using tools that have a high Crafting Skill rating.
Crafting Minigame Explained
After choosing your tool and crafting method, you’ll find yourself engaging in a mini-game. Here, you must press the buttons at the right moment to choose the appropriate ‘workstation’. You’ll have a specified number of tries, and each try requires you to perform all the required actions before the time runs out. The number of attempts is visible at the top-right corner of your screen. A timer located in the center shows the remaining time as well as the upcoming station/prompt. To finish a prompt, simply tap, hold, or rapidly tap the action key.
After completing the mini-game, your performance will be assessed with a grade ranging from Failure, Completed, Good, Excellent, to Perfect based on your skills.
You’ll get a Good Quality craft item by doing any (or all) of the following:
- Make sure your Crafting Skills are near/equate to or exceed the crafting recipe’s Recommended Crafting Skills number.
- Get Great and Excellent scores during the minigame. Avoid Good and avoid running out of time.
- Using a tool of a higher rank (ex: Fine) or higher quality (ex: Good). Sometimes higher rank/quality tools come with skills that can extend your crafting time, etc.
It’s worth noting that a tool’s rank and its quality are two different things. When selecting a tool or weapon for crafting, you’ll notice options like Ordinary, Fine, or Notable (if unlocked). Although a Fine tool without any quality is generally superior to an Ordinary tool with no quality, it may not always be better than an Ordinary tool with Good Quality. In fact, if your goal is to create Good Quality items for quests, sticking with the Ordinary rank might be more beneficial.
Once you transform Strangelings back to their regular state, they can assist you in your crafting tasks. This aid increases your Crafting Proficiency for that particular session. You’re also allowed to alternate between characters while playing the minigame.
Crafting Skills to Level Up
For each Crafting Life, it’s advisable to utilize the Skills menu. Within this menu, you’ll find Skills that can increase crafting time, grant extra Skill Points, and even activate special moves capable of automatically completing simpler crafting tasks at lower levels. Additionally, focusing on unlocking the Spin and Hold nodes is suggested as these processes generally take more time compared to just pressing the action button.
Using Auto-Complete might not provide you with top-tier items such as quality gear, nor does it guarantee a larger quantity of items like logs.

It’s usually more beneficial to invest in high-quality tools like a Saw for carpenters, a Hammer for blacksmiths, and a Needle for tailors. These tools are crucial because they help in creating materials and equipment, thereby enhancing your overall skill level.
Afterward, focus on enhancing your arsenal, tailoring it to the preferred Combat Style of yours. If you’re drawn to the Magician Life, concentrate on creating Sturdy Pine Wands instead, focusing on their quality. Items with high-quality ratings will not only perform better but also grant you extra abilities such as elemental damage/protection, increased SP, and other beneficial features.
