Ark: Survival Evolved developer Studio Wildcard has shared a much-needed update for the game’s highly anticipated sequel, ARK 2. Alongside the reveal of a new expansion for Ark: Survival Ascended, which is a remaster of the original 2015 title, Studio Wildcard announced that the DLC will not only bridge the gap between ARK: Extinction and ARK: Genesis, but will also lead directly into the world of ARK 2.
Five years after the early access release of Ark: Survival Ascended, Studio Wildcard revealed ARK 2 at The Game Awards 2020, featuring a CGI trailer with Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel. The sequel is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and was initially scheduled to launch in 2023, three years after its reveal. However, ARK 2 has been hit with multiple delays since its announcement, and there’s currently no confirmed release date for the sequel. With very little information being shared by Studio Wildcard, fans had begun to grow increasingly worried that ARK 2 had been canceled. But, thanks to an upcoming DLC, we now know that’s not the case.
Studio Wildcard Shares Update on ARK 2
On March 18, Studio Wildcard revealed ARK: Lost Colony, a new DLC expansion for Ark: Survival Ascended that is set to launch in November 2025 and will feature the voice of Acadamy Award winner Michelle Yeoh. According to the expansion’s official description, Lost Colony directly connects the storylines of ARK: Extinction and ARK: Genesis, two DLCs that were originally released for Ark: Survival Evolved in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Lost Colony also “leads into the events of ARK 2,” according to Studio Wildcard. The developer also took to Twitter to reaffirm to fans that it remains “entirely dedicated” to the production of Ark: Survival Ascended and ARK 2.
The last major piece of news surrounding ARK 2 was back in 2023 when Studio Wildcard revealed it would not be releasing the title in its planned release window. ARK 2 was delayed to late 2024 (of course, this window also wasn’t met) alongside the reveal of Ark: Survival Ascended. The remastered version of Ark: Survival Evolved would go on to be massively controversial for a variety of reasons, even receiving mixed reviews on Steam due to its performance issues. When the remaster was initially announced, Studio Wildcard also revealed a bundle known as Ark: Respawned, which would include Ark: Survival Ascended and the yet-to-be-released ARK 2. The bundle would eventually be scrapped due to backlash from the community.
Despite very little information on the sequel being revealed by Studio Wildcard, ARK 2 remains in Steam’s top ten most wishlisted games, alongside the likes of Hollow Knight: Silksong, Subnautica 2, Borderlands 4, and many more. Sadly, its release date remains a mystery. But for those looking to get their Ark fix, Lost Colony will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in November 2025, with pre-orders set for June and exclusive preview gameplay content also available alongside the pre-orders.
