- Defeating The Wise
In the gripping world of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, I find myself pursuing some clearly wicked characters – these are individuals who unabashedly exploit and torment the blameless populace, making them my primary targets.
At times, The Wise may choose to operate covertly, pulling strings from the background, aiming to achieve their objectives without drawing attention to themselves or taking center stage. This is reminiscent of the Shunbakufu’s approach.
Discovering the Astute involves fulfilling various assignments for Lord Junkei and the Akiyama family as they strive to establish a permanent truce, with the aid of an enigmatic character known as Kojiro who seemingly materializes and dematerializes at will during these delicate endeavors.
Continue reading to discover methods for maintaining harmony and avoiding misdirected accusations during negotiation processes.
A Chance Encounter

The initial mission you’ll find is titled “A Fateful Meeting,” and you can take on this task once you’ve completed “The Wheel Unveiled.” After its activation, you can locate this mission within your Objectives Menu, specifically in the Shunbakufu segment.

Initially, head towards Omiwa Shrine situated in Yamamoto region. At this location, you’ll encounter a lady named Fuyu. To locate her swiftly, either send an explorer or align with a nearby vantage point to pinpoint her position on your map. Engage in conversation with her to proceed further in the quest.

Fuyu will guide you on a leisurely exploration during which she’ll recount incidents involving nearby shrines being targeted. Join her in prayer at these sites first, and then visit two additional ones in the vicinity: the initial one is positioned northwest of your starting point, while the third one can be found northeast. Use your Perception ability to spot them more efficiently.

At the third sanctuary, a scene unfolds introducing Kojiro. No matter what conversation options you pick, Kojiro proposes a meeting with Tsutsui Junkei, the regional feudal lord, and provides you with a persimmon as a present for him.

Travel east from Koriyama to the nearby village. In this village, you’ll either explore the surroundings or locate the teahouse situated southwest of the castle to encounter Junkei. A samurai is stationed outside, protecting his lord’s seclusion, but they will grant you access once you approach them. Upon entering, you’ll come across Junkei and his advisor who will guide you on your next moves.
Scattered across the region, you’ll find numerous powerful bosses associated with different fields. It’s generally advisable to postpone taking on this questline if your character level is below 30.
The Lost Envoys

Carry on with your investigation by heading to a town situated on the east border of Yamamoto, near the Concealed Stream. Employ your Perception ability to seek out potential witnesses and locate Kojiro once more; he should provide you with another clue – leading you this time towards a tipsy solider.

Following your victory against the soldier, you’ll encounter Akiyama Ayako, who confides that there are spies within her group and that her objectives might coincide with yours. Subsequently, you’re dispatched to inspect an iron-mining location nearby, where it’s suspected the missing emissaries are being detained.

As a dedicated enthusiast, I find myself in a situation where I must discreetly or forcefully secure the surroundings, and then engage with the detained emissary. This individual will share valuable information about a missing invitation to peace talks, which is secretly stashed within Uda Matsuyama castle.
In this scenario, it’s advisable to sneak past the heavily secured letter with Naoe, instead of attempting a direct approach with Yasuke. Once you’ve managed to grab the invitation, make sure to deliver it back to Lady Ayako at the Kasugataisha Temple to wrap up this chapter.
Be vigilant for a top-tier Kurai Eikyou agent, and bear in mind that even those who are not combatants such as servants might set off alarms!
Restless Spirits

Head back to Katsuragi, then find the priests congregated at the city’s central area where they’ll express worries over missing sacred items. Suddenly, Kojiro shows up again, guiding you towards the Gokenin No Kanrei mansion, which lies just southward.
The manor is under watch, but you can either sneak past or engage in combat to gain entry and discover a letter hidden within the main structure. This letter reveals that the Gokenin have been instructed not to meddle with the Takatori Bandits, who are linked to a larger, covert plot.

Moving forward, I head northeast towards a bridge where I’ll catch up with Kojiro again. He shares some tips on sneaking into the bandits’ fortress, but honestly, by now I’m quite familiar with making the most of darkness and shadows to stay unseen while playing this game.
Make your way towards the bandit’s abandoned fortress, and employ your Observation ability to strategize a path that avoids many of the sentries. It might be wise to examine a weakened section to the southwest, as it seems to bypass most of the guards.

Following the elimination of the bandit chief and establishing control over the camp, search through their possessions for a note indicating that The Wise is involved in causing unrest in this area. Afterward, converse with Kojiro to wrap up the mission.
Temple Stories

In simpler terms, the path for the Wise’s journey in this section is less intricate. You’ll locate Joken Hokkyo to the north of Nara Heartland, specifically at the Todaji temple. Stick with him as he guides you through the temple grounds. Eventually, Kojiro will reappear. Keep going with Joken until they are set upon by thieves.
This version maintains the original information but uses more common, everyday language to make it easier for readers to understand.

Following the repulsion of the attackers, pursue them towards the western direction, as that’s where they’re believed to have hidden a valuable scroll crucial for the current peace negotiations. Overpower the thieves, retrieve the scroll, and bring it back to Joken in order to successfully accomplish this task.
Darkness Falls

Just like many Shunbakufu assassination missions, once it’s underway, you won’t be able to exit it, so take the time to get ready before diving in.
Initially, locate your companion outside Kofukuji Temple near a large tree and agree on whom to accompany. Yasuke’s journey starts off simpler, whereas Naoe’s is more action-packed at first. In the course of the adventure, you will regain control over Yasuke midway and be faced with another decision before your final assassination mission.
Naoe’s Path

Because Naoe is posing as Yasuke’s servant, she isn’t invited to the peace negotiations. However, sneak into the temple by using the rooftops and keep an eye on the blue directional indicators to listen in on the suspicious soldiers without being noticed.
1. Locate a concealed message that suggests a sniper is close by.
2. Eliminate the sniper before they can perform their deadly mission.
Using smoke grenades can help you bypass guards without a fight.
Yasuke’s Path

Yasuke can just stroll right in through the main entrance, no need for secrecy, and address the trio of leaders directly. This action will initiate the following sequence where all present will witness Naoe thwarting the assassin’s attack.
You’re granted a chance to expose the culprit responsible for all this: opt for Joken, who will uncover the real murderer, and afterwards outsmart his trap.
This version maintains the original meaning while being more natural and easier to read.
Defeating The Wise

In simpler terms, neither Naoe nor Yasuke has an edge over Joken, yet Naoe’s agility could potentially make dodging attacks less challenging on the way to the monk. It would be possible to confront Joken’s monks, but it might be wiser to steer clear of them to preserve your supplies for the impending boss battle.
On the battlefield, Joken uses a venomous sword that retaliates against missed parries. Therefore, it’s better to concentrate on evading rather than shielding yourself.

After overcoming The Wise, a concluding scene will subtly reveal Kojiro’s real character as the story comes to an end.
The rewards for defeating him are:
- 2000 experience points
- 355 Mon
- Three mastery points
- Winds of War legendary kusarigama
- Classic Tea Bowl collectible
Each preceding quest in this chain also grants 1000 experience.
