Summary
- Elden Ring Nightreign‘s launch trailer shows a glimpse of a summoner class.
- The game has been rumored to feature an archetype designed around Spirit Ashes, reportedly called Revenant, for a while now.
- Elden Ring Nightreign releases on May 30.
FromSoftware has disclosed the speculated Revenant class for Elden Ring Nightreign, although its definitive name is yet to be confirmed. However, it’s now clear that the game Elden Ring Nightreign will include a character type that enables players to employ a less direct strategy in combat by summoning Spirit Ash.
Initially unveiled at The Game Awards back in December 2024, the spin-off of Elden Ring featuring cooperative gameplay is set for launch on May 30. In recent weeks, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have been progressively disclosing details about the Nightreign classes within Elden Ring, which are referred to in-game as Nightfarers.
In the debut trailer for the ARPG released on May 27th, we get a sneak peek at a character rumored to be part of Elden Ring Nightreign called the Revenant Nightfarer. Although the trailer doesn’t officially confirm the class name, it does showcase a new character summoning a colossal skeleton around the 42nd second. To clarify, earlier speculations hinted at the game featuring a class that specializes in Spirit Ash summons, which was reportedly named the Revenant. The eerie appearance of the skeleton in the trailer aligns with how Spirit Ash summons are depicted within Elden Ring.
Elden Ring Nightreign Teases New Enemies
Besides showing the Revenant teaser, the launch trailer additionally unveils new adversaries not previously glimpsed. One of these is a colossal dragon that shoots lightning, which creatures known as Nightfarers seem to circle during the middle of the video. If Elden Ring bosses are any guide, this fearsome beast will probably have at least one grab attack, suggested by its massive jaw with an unpredictable biting motion. The one-armed centaur-like adversary that had appeared in some earlier promotional materials is spotted again here, leaping aggressively onto a stone platform around the 51-second point.
Nighreign’s Classes Will Matter More Than Elden Ring’s
In Elden Ring, the character classes had a limited influence on long-term gameplay, mainly shaping the initial experience as players could adapt each class – from Astrologer to Bandit, Confessor to Samurai – into virtually any build over time. However, in Nightreign (February 2025), the Nightfarers are more intentionally designed with distinct strengths and weaknesses right from the start. The limited testing suggests that each Nightfarer archetype could potentially feel overpowered or “broken” if built effectively, particularly if players happen to find favorable equipment drops.
Since Nightreign is based on the Elden Ring structure, the Revenant class might offer a more beginner-friendly approach for navigating the game’s numerous obstacles. In Elden Ring, Spirit Ashes served as an unofficial adjustment for game difficulty since they could make many bosses easier to defeat. Only the Vitality attribute, which influenced survivability directly, had a comparable impact on game difficulty. This dynamic seems to persist in Nightreign as well.
