This article contains spoilers for the One Piece manga.
Summary
- Gunko has a mysterious and powerful character among the Holy Knights on Elbaf.
- Fans speculate that Brook could be Gunko’s father due to their deep bond, but it’s unlikely.
- Gunko, a princess, likely had a knightly relationship with Brook before he became a pirate.
According to die-hard One Piece enthusiasts, none of the Straw Hat Pirates are currently married or have kids. But with the release of chapter 1149, speculation among fans has been rampant that one of these pirates might actually be a father and could have a daughter. Though this theory is intriguing, there seems to be more to it than initially appears.
Gunko’s Character In One Piece Is Very Intriguing
A Holy Knight With An Odd Personality
The Elbaf storyline kicked off with quite a commotion. Shortly after it began, a formidable gang of antagonists appeared on Elbaf – none other than Figarland Shamrock and Gunko from the Order of Holy Knights. Their extraordinary power was quickly noticeable as they roughly handled a bound Loki and effortlessly demolished some Giants.
At first glance, Shamrock strikingly resembled Shanks’s brother and the son of Figarland Garling. However, Shamrock wasn’t the sole peril in Elbaf. Accompanying him was Gunko, who remained active within Elbaf. Furthermore, two additional Holy Knights, Sommers and Killingham, also made their way into Elbaf.
Among the Holy Knights, Gunko stands out as the most intriguing character. To start, her name piqued the curiosity of fans right away. Unlike her fellow knights who were presented based on their saintly statuses, Gunko was simply introduced as an ordinary individual. Moreover, Gunko’s appearance is quite unusual compared to the others. While they don traditional musketeer attire, Gunko sports a distinctively different outfit. Additionally, fans couldn’t help but notice Gunko’s eyes – she appears to have heterochromia, and even her personality seems to be divided into two contrasting aspects.
Among the mighty Elbaf knights I’ve come across, it’s worth mentioning that I’ve found Gunko to be unique, as he alone wields the power to command the enigmatic Abyss – a fascinating aspect indeed!
With the recent development, it’s clear that Gunko holds a unique status among fans. It appears that Imu now controls her, making her the most potent character we’ve witnessed in the world of One Piece thus far.
Gunko’s Father Could be a Straw Hat Pirate
Gunko and Brook Share a Connection
Over the course of a few captivating chapters, it appears that Oda has significantly accelerated the narrative within Elbaf. Witnessing the destruction of Sommers, Gaban’s son, Colon, was taken hostage by Gunko, which ultimately led Gaban to surrender. Seizing this opportunity, Gunko fatally wounded Gaban and tossed him into the Underworld, causing an anguished cry for his father from young Colon. Remarkably, the word ‘father’ seemed to awaken something within Gunko, as long-forgotten memories of her past began flooding back to her mind.
As Colin shouts for his dad, she recalls an image of herself with Brook. Previously, it was evident that Gunko is quite fond of Brook’s tunes, and the blow he gave to Brook caused him actual discomfort.
The accumulated evidence has sparked a widely-discussed fan speculation: Could Brook possibly be Gunko’s father? Given their apparent close relationship and considering the time Brook spent as a human (around 40 years), it’s not difficult to understand why this assumption arises.
Is Brook Really Gunko’s Father?
It’s Unlikely As He Guarded Gunko
It seems unlikely that Brook has a daughter, given that Gunko addresses him by his first name rather than as “father.” Given the high social status of Gunko’s father, who could potentially be a nobleman or even a king, it’s possible that Gunko herself is a princess.
A more fitting interpretation of Gunko and Brook’s bond seems to resemble that of a maiden and her knight. Prior to his pirate life, it is plausible that Brook served as protection for her family, and over time, their connection deepened through music, drawing them closer as the young princess grew.
There remains much that’s unclear about Gunko, particularly how she came to be a Holy Knight. Given that Imu personally selected her for possession in the last chapter, it’s evident that she holds some unique qualities. In the upcoming chapter, Brook could potentially provide further insights as he was acquainted with her years ago. The intrigue surrounding One Piece is escalating, and fans can only cross their fingers in anticipation of more focus on Gunko from Od.
