Will Shibai Otsutsuki Return in Boruto’s Future?

The following article contains spoilers for Naruto and Boruto.

Summary

  • Shibai Otsutsuki is introduced as an enigmatic figure and the most powerful Otsutsuki clan member.
  • Fans expect Shibai to return due to his unfinished story and potential impact on future arcs.
  • Amado could be Shibai or have a deeper connection, leading to speculation about his role in the story.

The animated series “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” has unveiled numerous puzzles that are expected to be clarified as the narrative progresses. In this show, we’ve been introduced to Shibai Otsutsuki, a captivating character who is the strongest member of the Otsutsuki family.

In the tale thus far, Shibai has yet to make an appearance. As of now, given that he’s said to have ascended to divinity, it seems unlikely that he could feature in the narrative. Nevertheless, there’s a strong possibility that we might see him again or that his relics might hold crucial importance in upcoming chapters of the story.

Who Is Shibai Otsutsuki in Boruto?

In the concluding segments of “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations,” a character named Shibai makes his debut. For the first time, he is spoken about within the narrative during Chapter 75 titled “The Domain of Gods.” This is where Amado discusses Eida/Ada and Daemon in more detail. As typical for the Otsutsuki clan, Shibai was power-crazed, responsible for the destruction of multiple planets while seeking greater power. He wandered from planet to planet, consuming Chakra Fruits along the way, thus exponentially increasing his own strength.

In the tale we follow, he managed to cheat death by employing Karma Resurrection and devouring Chakra Fruits. His power grew so immense that he was elevated to divine status within the Otsutsuki clan, earning him deity-like recognition. The abilities he wields, known as shinjutsu, surpass the strength of conventional ninjutsu in the Naruto world. Momoshiki, speaking to Boruto, confirmed that Shibai attained such a prodigious level of power that he transcended our dimension, leaving behind his mortal form. Consequently, Shibai no longer has a physical presence in Boruto’s universe.

Shibai possesses the ability to perceive future events and instantly transport himself anywhere through his powers. One of his abilities is Omnipotence, an extraordinary skill that allows a user to alter reality as they wish. Eida can utilize this technique due to Amado infusing some of Shibai’s genes within her. The extent of her control over it remains uncertain. Furthermore, she obtained the Senringan from him as well.

Why Fans Expect Shibai to Return?

Many supporters find it hard to accept that Shibai could just depart from the universe after spending so much time trying to become its most powerful inhabitant. Moreover, they suspect that Ikemoto wouldn’t create this character without planning to reintroduce him at a later stage.

Apart from what’s already been revealed or inferred about Shibai by other characters, there’s a strong desire among fans to delve deeper into his backstory and witness his actions firsthand. Although it’s technically feasible to introduce new elements, discarding all the existing lore could be disappointing given the rich history surrounding him. Given his immense power, many fans speculate that Shibai could serve as the climactic antagonist. One possibility is that his remnants could set off events tied to him, while keeping some aspects of his story intact.

Could Amado Actually Be Shibai?

As a researcher, Amado is typically privy to knowledge beyond the average character’s grasp. For instance, he has logically deduced that their world could be a simulation based on the evidence at hand – making him one of the few characters who may have independently arrived at this conclusion. At present, Amado appears to be intensely preoccupied with using cloning technology to bring back his daughter, Akebi Sanzu, from the dead.

While some fans question whether Amado was simply fortunate to discover Shibai’s remains, they instead suspect that there may be a significant connection between the two. In their view, it’s possible that Amado is none other than Shibai himself. However, this theory could also be explained by Amado having learned much about Shibai after encountering Jigen, as implied in the storyline. It’s also plausible that Shibai’s remains are linked to Isshiki. At present, it’s unclear whether Amado is concealing a secret connection to Shibai or if he is simply an exceptionally skilled scientist.

Akebi Could Also Be Related to Shibai

Amado requested Kawaki’s assistance in retrieving Akebi using his Karma. Kawaki agreed, but only on the condition that Akebi wouldn’t transform into an Otsutsuki, warning Amado he would eliminate her if she did. This has sparked speculation among fans that Akebi will evolve into a powerful Otsutsuki and potentially become an adversary in a future storyline.

All I need is for you to implant this vessel with a Karma… and my daughter can be reborn.

Amado Sanzu in Boruto TBV Chapter 18

Many spectators speculate that, in his frantic attempt to resurrect his daughter, Amado might unwittingly resurrect Shibai. This could be due to Kawaki’s Karma or some other factor during the process. Given that the narrative has suggested Akebi might reappear as an Otsutsuki, it seems plausible this will occur. However, many anticipate she won’t simply be another Otsutsuki; they think she’ll be Shibai. There could be various routes for Shibai to return as a villain, but Akebi and Amado appear to be the strongest possibilities at present. If Akebi does become an Otsutsuki, it’s also likely that Amado will meet his end.
