Contains spoilers for House of the Dragon season 3 and the book, Fire & Blood
Although production for season 3 of “House of the Dragon” is ongoing, eager fans are already getting a sneak peek at what’s to come when the series resumes, as it seems a long-lost Targaryen character will be joining the cast. Drawing on the grand narratives found in George R. R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood”, “House of the Dragon” delves into the expansive landscapes of Westeros, two years before the Old King’s passing, and continues the storyline during the ninth year of King Viserys’ reign.
Over the course of two seasons, the creators of the fantasy series have taken significant creative risks in their adaptation, particularly with the ending of season 2, which left many fans feeling that the TV show veered too far from the original storyline. The finale of ‘House of the Dragon’, titled ‘The Queen Who Ever Was’, aired on August 4, 2024, and since then, dedicated viewers have been brainstorming various theories about what may transpire next, with some speculating that Daemon might assume the role of the three-eyed raven. As anticipation for season 3 builds, it appears that its continuation will pick up from where ‘House of the Dragon’ season 2 concluded, but the challenges now seem to be greater than ever.
House of the Dragon Season 3 Character Leak Introduces Prince Daeron Targaryen

Based on information from Redanian Intelligence, a reliable source for news about “House of the Dragon” and “The Witcher” on Netflix, actor Steve Toussaint, who portrays Corlys Velaryon (the Sea Snake), inadvertently revealed a picture from the show’s Season 3 script read. The image displayed a cast list for the third episode of the upcoming season, which was swiftly captured by a fan and shared on Twitter by WtDasoiaf. Notably, the list shows Prince Daeron Targaryen at the top, indicating that he will make an appearance in “House of the Dragon” Season 3 for the first time.
Despite no official announcement on who will portray Daeron Targaryen in “House of the Dragon” season 3 as of now, this development has sparked anticipation among fans eager to see when the third son of King Viserys Targaryen and Alicent Hightower will make his appearance. Mentioned sporadically throughout the previous two seasons, it appears that this significant character may finally get his own storyline unveiled in the upcoming season.
It’s been pointed out that a couple of characters seem absent from the list, namely Otto Hightower and Jacaerys Velaryon. This omission could imply that these characters might face their end sooner in the storyline. For those who have read “Fire & Blood,” Jacaerys’ death may not come as a surprise since he perished during the Battle of the Gullet, an event that is said to be the starting point for season 3.
Filming for House of the Dragon season 3 has started, which suggests it might finish by around September this year. If so, you can expect the next season to be released in the summer of 2026.
