Four CG movies under the “Resident Evil” series are recognized as part of the larger narrative. While some familiar characters like Leon, Chris, and Claire make appearances in these films, they also introduce several fresh faces to the franchise. Many of these new characters are captivating additions, particularly the villains, who offer an intriguing twist to the storyline.
Regardless, even though these characters might be notable due to their abilities and appearance in the Resident Evil universe, they significantly influence the series as a whole, making them valuable knowledge for dedicated fans. Interestingly, although they appear exclusively in the movies, these characters are skillfully crafted with compelling narratives that make them enjoyable to watch for various reasons. Despite some reservations regarding the Resident Evil films among fans, there’s no question that these characters shine brightly within the storyline.
Warning! Spoilers Ahead!
8. Buddy
An Unlikely Companion To Leon, Who Learns A Lot From His New Friend
Initially, Buddy and Leon aren’t particularly fond of each other when they first cross paths. However, after Buddy and his companion JD hatch a plan to abduct Leon, it becomes clear that they will need Leon’s expertise as a special agent to navigate the Eastern Slav Republic safely. This nation is swarming with Biologically-Organic Weapons (B.O.W.s) and mutants during an ongoing civil war.
Because Buddy was initially a renegade, he wasn’t unfamiliar with battles on the battlefront. However, during his time with Leon, he gained valuable insights. For instance, although Buddy wished for Leon to end his suffering when he contracted an infection, Leon instead shot him in the spine to eradicate the plaga, leaving him paralyzed but alive. He refused to surrender and became one of the most unforgettable newcomers in Damnation.
7. Curtis Miller
Despite Having Good Intentions, Curtis Was Manipulated And Used As A Pawn In A Larger Game
Being a cinema devotee and deeply affected by the tragic Raccoon City outbreak that took my dear ones away, I was compelled to expose the hidden truth of that fateful day to the world. Naturally, the government wasn’t too keen on unveiling Umbrella Corporation’s sinister plots, but in a desperate bid for transparency, I joined forces with the enigmatic Frederick Downing – a man of business with a peculiar request: orchestrate another outbreak to grab the world’s attention.
In essence, Frederick harbored darker motives all along and surreptitiously controlled Curtis. Over time, he transformed into a monstrous figure in the game Degeneration, where he was compelled to fight his own sister. Despite this, Curtis is a skillfully crafted character who illustrates the ruthless nature of the Resident Evil universe. His attempts at promoting progressive ideals make him an exceptional and distinct figure within the series.
6. Dylan Blake
Dylan Is A Raccoon City Survivor Who Lost His Mind Due To The Horrific Incident
Despite Leon and Claire managing to carry on post-Raccoon City, Dylan Blake found himself in a very different situation. As a former Umbrella soldier, he was compelled to gun down his entire squad when they were infected – he being the sole survivor. This traumatic incident profoundly affected Dylan’s psyche, causing him to unleash an outbreak on Alcatraz Island, where coincidentally many mainline characters find themselves in the Death Island film.
Dylan’s portrayal in “Death Island” serves as an exceptional illustration of a Raccoon City survivor who took a darker route, revealing the profound effect the incident had on those who miraculously lived through it. Throughout the story, Dylan skillfully delves into the emotional depths of each protagonist, effectively piercing their defenses with his eloquent choice of words. Despite being relatively weak in combat, he remains a captivating and entertaining antagonist to watch during his limited appearances.
5. Frederic Downing
A Manipulative Businessman Who Proves To Be A Real Thorn In The Side Of Leon And Claire
- Resident Evil: Degeneration
In the opening of “Resident Evil: Degeneration”, Frederick Downing initially appears as a polite and thoughtful businessman. Although his efforts to get acquainted with Claire seem somewhat dubious, there was no immediate cause for intense distrust towards Frederick. However, it isn’t until we realize that he has been orchestrating events from behind the curtains that our suspicions are confirmed.
It seems that Frederick attempted to deceive both individuals to experiment with additional viruses, which he intended to sell for profit through WillPharma corporation to those willing to pay the most. This action was aimed at elevating his status. Although not as iconic as characters like Wesker, Frederick from Degeneration stands out due to his cunning nature and overall unsettling demeanor.
4. Maria Gomez
Maria Is A Lethal Assassin With A Pretty Tragic Backstory
Among the limited characters in CG films, Maria is one who appears across multiple movies, which isn’t necessarily a drawback given how entertaining she is to see in action. Following an almost fatal incident where a bomb exploded at Glenn Arius’ wedding and left her wounded, Glenn rehabilitated Maria and transformed her into a highly skilled superhuman assassin, equipped to handle any adversary who dared cross her master’s path.
In the movie Vendetta, Maria meets her demise; however, she resurfaces in Death Island. Here, she nearly kills Leon, whom she suspects is responsible for her father’s death. There’s no denying that Maria would make an exciting adversary in the games, which is unfortunate considering she has only appeared on the silver screen so far.
3. Angela Miller
Angela Feels Like A Fish Out Of Water, Which Makes Her A Very Relatable Character
- Resident Evil: Degeneration
Despite giving the impression that she’s a battle-hardened veteran, Angela finds herself grappling with new challenges when confronted by the ravenous zombies in Resident Evil: Degeneration. In such moments, she feels like she’s treading water, despite her impressive soldier skills. This is particularly contrasted by Leon, who, at this point in time, handles most zombies and mutants with seeming ease.
Simultaneously, Angela develops a side story involving her brother Curtis, who is growing increasingly violent in his quest to expose Raccoon City’s secrets. Compared to Leon’s other partners like Ashley and Claire, Angela might not be as famous, but she undeniably outshines them in the CG films specifically.
2. Svetlana Belikova
Svetlana Would Make A Perfect Game Villain With Her Creepy Aura And Impressive Combat Skills
- Resident Evil: Damnation
It’s truly disappointing that Svetlana appears only once in a film, given her exceptional talent for portraying chilling villains who can instill fear just by being in the room. As the head of the Eastern Slav Republic, Svetlana finds herself leading during a civil war depicted in the movie Damnation. To counter the rebellion, she permitted Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W.s) to enter the battlefield, turning the conflict into a gruesome bloodbath.
It might seem like Ada thought Svetlana relied on others to handle her adversaries, but it turns out that Svetlana is more than capable of confronting her enemies personally, even demonstrating remarkable fighting abilities. Fortunately, by the end of “Damnation,” Svetlana managed to elude capture, leaving a small possibility that this formidable adversary could reappear in the series at some point in the future.
1. Glenn Arias
Arias Is One Of The Most Intimidating Villains In All Of Resident Evil
- Resident Evil: Vendetta
Similar to Wesker, Glenn Arias skillfully straddles the boundary between a psychopathic villain and a brilliant strategist. Following the unexpected disruption of his wedding by the US, who opted to bomb everyone present, Glenn devoted himself to rising as the most dominant and powerful figure in the black market. Remarkably, he also developed a virus capable of distinguishing allies from enemies among monsters, a task that is no small feat.
In a physical confrontation with Chris Redfield, this individual not only held his ground but also nearly succeeded in executing his grand scheme, if it weren’t for the intervention of Leon and Rebecca. The mere sight of Glenn on screen sends shivers down one’s spine, underscoring his impressive portrayal as a villain, and a character who undeniably merits further exploration in the Resident Evil series.
