Blumhouse Is Working On A Movie Adaptation Of The Video Game Phasmophobia
Based on reports from Variety, it appears that Blumhouse is developing a film inspired by the video game Phasmophobia. Alongside Atomic Monster, they’re collaborating with Kinetic Games Limited, who are responsible for creating the original game. The announcement was made at their Business of Fear event on June 3rd, 2025.
Phasmophobia, a team-based game, focuses on tracking and capturing ghostly entities. This suspenseful title debuted in 2020. The authentic horror atmosphere promises an exhilarating cinematic adaptation. With its spine-chilling elements, there’s no question that the movie will emphasize the haunting ambiance. As per NME.com, Kinetic Games disclosed their intentions for the game on Discord in 2021, stating they aimed to:
Ensure the frights within the game Phasmophobia are both suspenseful and engaging. Let’s avoid relying excessively on common, low-budget jump scares in our approach to creating horror.
Phasmophobia is set to join an extensive collection of spine-tingling paranormal films from Blumhouse Productions, renowned for bringing us hit franchises such as Insidious and Paranormal Activity. The company’s recent releases include Insidious: The Red Door, which premiered in August 2023, with another installment, Insidious 6, scheduled for 2026. In 2021, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin hit the screens, but Blum himself called it a disappointment. It seems unlikely that we’ll see another film in that series. However, there are numerous other chilling supernatural tales from Blumhouse to look forward to, like the one in House of Spoils, due out in 2024, which follows a gifted chef who experiences peculiar occurrences after relocating to the countryside to open a restaurant.

Additionally to crafting suspenseful, thrilling, and nerve-wracking horror films, this company also publishes horror video games under Blumhouse Games. Their game portfolio includes titles such as “Fear the Limelight”, “Project C”, “The Simulation”, and “Awaken in Dreams”.
Currently, as we speak, there’s no set release date for Blumhouse’s Phasmophobia. Nevertheless, the second half of 2025 is shaping up to be a busy period for them. Following the March launch of The Woman in the Yard and April’s Drop, both directed by Christopher Landon, Blumhouse is gearing up for M3GAN 2.0, set to hit theaters on June 27th, 2025. Later in October, The Black Phone 2 will make its appearance, with horror enthusiasts getting another dose of the eerie and ominous Grabber. To wrap up 2025, Blumhouse will unveil Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 on December 5th, featuring Matthew Lillard reprising his terrifying role. The 2026 lineup for Blumhouse is equally impressive, boasting Lee Cronin’s remake of The Mummy, the Rob Savage film Incidents Around The House, and a new Exorcist movie directed by Mike Flanagan, offering an intriguing take on the iconic story.
