Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo have unveiled “Nioh 3,” the latest installment in their well-known soulslike action RPG series, which has left many gamers astonished because they can start playing it right away. The Nioh series originated in 2017 with its first release, followed by “Nioh 2” in 2020. This franchise is grounded in Japanese mythology and has previously focused on the story of William Adams, a former Irish sailor turned samurai, as well as Hidechiyo, a half-yokai character, in the prequel sequel.

The upcoming June State of Play event from Sony was speculated about prior to its official announcement. During the presentation, we got to see fresh gameplay footage for previously teased titles, but there were also some unexpected announcements. These combat styles are an enhancement of the traditional Samurai style, along with a new Ninja style that offers faster movements through dodging techniques and aerial maneuvers.

In the absence of a fresh Nioh sequel, The First Berzerker: Khazan stepped into the gap, sparking excitement among fans who eagerly anticipated a new installment. The soulslike gaming community was electrified by the news. Many gamers declared that Nioh 2 ranked among their top favorites, hinting they had their swords at the ready. Others posed queries, seeking clarification on whether the Yokai Shift mechanic and Living Weapon attack would be absent from the upcoming game, and expressing curiosity about whether players could transfer their characters from Nioh 2 to the third installment.

Kicking off the new year, Team Ninja hinted at their plans to celebrate their 30th anniversary in 2025, and the unexpected unveiling of Nioh 3 didn’t fall short of excitement. Previously, gamers speculated that some anniversary festivities would revolve around the developer’s Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden series, given Fumihiko Yasuda’s mention of upcoming titles that would be “perfect for the occasion.” To a certain degree, these expectations were met, as the latest State of Play presentation also featured a trailer for Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a side-scrolling game set to launch in July 2025.
