ICP Turns Three, Releases New Roadmap With AI in Focus

As a researcher with a background in blockchain technology and artificial intelligence, I find the recent release of Internet Computer Protocol (ICP)’s “Year 4 Internet Computer Roadmap” particularly intriguing. ICP, as a decentralized blockchain network, has been making significant strides in the industry over the past three years since its mainnet launch in May 2021.

As a crypto investor, I’m excited about the latest roadmap update from ICP. Over the past three years, we’ve made significant strides forward, and this new summary highlights the key development areas that will establish ICP as the go-to platform for Decentralized AI and the orchestration hub within the blockchain industry.

ICP turns three, publishes AI roadmap

As a researcher studying the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP), I’m excited to share that today, May 16, 2024, marks the third anniversary of its mainnet launch. To celebrate this milestone, ICP has unveiled its “Year 4 Internet Computer Roadmap.” This comprehensive plan outlines our primary areas of focus and numerous significant milestones for the coming year.

As a researcher delving into the innovative world of ICP, the third-generation blockchain, I’m thrilled to share that we are readying ourselves for an impactful journey ahead. In the revised plan, ICP identified two main areas of focus: Decentralized Artificial Intelligence (Decentralized AI) and Chain Fusion. The former intends to introduce AI contracts for practical applications, featuring Living-Learning Model (LLM) AI contracts that can communicate with smart contracts using colloquial speech, self-governing Web3 communities managing AIs via Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs), and NFTs representing pre-trained AIs.

ICP’s Chain Fusion enables seamless communication between major blockchains such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, other EVMs, and soon, Solana, without the need for intermediaries. With Chain Fusion, ICP smart contracts can access and interact with multiple chains, enabling developers to build cross-chain contracts. This innovation addresses the issue of liquidity fragmentation and promotes unity in the blockchain industry.

Dominic Williams, the Founder and Chief Scientist of the DFINITY Foundation, emphasizes the significant role of the latest release in advancing ICP (Internet Computer Protocol) and the broader Web3 (Decentralized Internet) movement.

As a crypto investor, I’m excited about the Internet Computer being the pioneer of Third Generation public blockchains. Our goal is to reach a “blockchain singularity,” where decentralized blockchains become the dominant technology infrastructure, powering secure and unstoppable AI applications. The DFINITY Foundation, led by an impressive team of cryptographers, researchers, and engineers, is advancing this vision with a new roadmap. We’re working tirelessly to make the network quicker, more efficient, and more powerful than ever before.

In 2023, the DFINITY Foundation, a Swiss non-profit organization that significantly supports the Internet Computer blockchain (ICP), initiated a $5 million decentralized artificial intelligence (DeAI) funding scheme. This program aims to foster the growth of Decentralized AI applications on the Internet Computer blockchain.

Over $3 billion in liquidity locked in the NNS DAO

Starting from its mainnet launch in 2021, the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) has achieved several significant milestones, contributing notably to the advancement of the entire industry.

The blockchain has experienced uninterrupted operation, handling over three billion blocks, and amassed over $3 billion worth of assets secured within the Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) of the Network Nervous System (NNS), which manages the Internet Computer Protocol.

As a researcher studying the Interconnected Consensus Protocol (ICP) ecosystem, I’ve been astounded by the remarkable growth of developers within this community. Electric Capital’s data reveals that the number of developers in ICP increased approximately 12-fold between 2020 and 2023. This impressive expansion occurred even before the mainnet was officially launched in May 2021. Furthermore, some of the most popular applications in the crypto sphere, such as DMail, DSCVR, and OpenChat, call the ICP ecosystem their home.
