Star Wars remains one of the longest-lasting modern intellectual properties, consistently staying relevant and popular over time. Initially, films were the primary platform for Star Wars, but as video games gain mainstream acceptance, the space opera has provided a rich setting for numerous interactive adventures, a trend that is expected to continue in the future.
Despite the occasional cancellation of Star Wars games like Star Wars: 1313 and the scrapped FPS from Respawn, the Star Wars gaming universe is growing significantly in popularity. The 2020s have witnessed the launch of numerous high-profile Star Wars games, such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Star Wars Outlaws, developed by various studios due to Disney’s broad distribution of the license. This multifaceted strategy has led to a rich variety in both recent and upcoming Star Wars games, each featuring unique gameplay and storytelling approaches.

Initially, the first “Star Wars Jedi” game was met with immediate success, and its follow-up, “Jedi: Survivor,” enjoyed similar levels of popularity and acclaim. Given these facts, it’s not too surprising that Respawn is heavily investing in this action-adventure series by announcing a third installment. At the moment, we don’t know much about the upcoming game, and it seems we’ll have to wait for more details: “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” was launched in 2023, and its lead developer, Stig Asmussen, left Respawn shortly afterward, so the franchise may require some additional time to organize its plans.
The picture becomes more unclear when discussing the upcoming game “Star Wars Eclipse” and the remake of “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.” “Eclipse,” developed by Quantic Dream, who are also known for creating “Heavy Rain” and “Detroit: Become Human,” will take place during the High Republic Era, well before the Skywalker Saga starts. The game is expected to maintain the choice-based, interactive movie style seen in previous projects from this studio. However, little else about the game has been disclosed at this point. It was unveiled in 2021 with a cinematic trailer, but since then, there have been mostly silence.
It’s worth noting that Quantic Dream has faced allegations of workplace misconduct in recent times, and whispers about the difficulties in developing “Eclipse” have also emerged.
It appears that the remake of the popular game “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” remains uncertain. Back in 2022, following its unveiling during a Fall 2021 PlayStation presentation, Bloomberg announced that the KOTOR remake had been put on hold indefinitely. Initially, Aspyr was assigned to work on this project, but when they were taken over by Embracer Group, the task was passed onto Saber Interactive. This transfer has added to the game’s ambiguous state. Despite this, Saber Interactive has consistently stated that development is ongoing, although specific details about the project have yet to be disclosed.
Additionally, we have two as-yet-unnamed Star Wars games in development. One is being developed by Bit Reactor, a studio comprised of veterans from Sid Meier’s Civilization and XCOM, who are teaming up with Respawn Entertainment to create a tactics/strategy game set within the Star Wars universe. Details about this project are scarce, but it is rumored to be showcased at the Star Wars Celebration event in April. The other game is being developed by Skydance New Media, and while specifics are not yet known, it has been confirmed as an action-adventure title. Given that Amy Hennig, the writer and director of Uncharted, is involved, we can expect this game to be a narrative-focused blockbuster, much like her previous work.
