One might find themselves puzzled upon encountering Old School RuneScape, a game that has managed to maintain its popularity throughout the years. It’s intriguing to ponder over the secret ingredient that binds this medieval, point-and-click game from the early Newgrounds era, still going strong today.
I have one word for you. Quests.
You might want to delve a bit deeper into your explanation, emphasizing that it’s the spirit and enjoyment embedded within these quests that truly makes this gem sparkle. Unlike traditional quests where you might be asked to “Slay 20 boars and retrieve their hides,” here you won’t find such mundane tasks; instead, there’s a distinct skill set devoted entirely to this specific task.
Sure thing! These stories are filled with intricate plots and well-developed characters, complete with unexpected twists and turns to keep you hooked. The humor in the writing will make you laugh out loud, while the tough bosses and challenging puzzles may leave you tearing your hair out. But the true prize is the extraordinary journey that awaits you.
After obtaining your Quest Cape, you’ll see why. These are the most outstanding and unforgettable quests from this timeless game. Despite how impressive some of its imitators may be, there’s only one RuneScape, and these quests demonstrate that perfectly.

Waterfall Quest
Level 1 to Level 30! Nice
If you’ve recently opened a new account and are eager to boost your levels, I’ve got an exciting surprise just for you!
Time to navigate through some cascading waterfalls and avoid the colossal moss creatures. Remember to stay vigilant to avoid an instant defeat, as that journey back might take quite a while.
Many of us have tackled the Waterfall Quest on at least five occasions throughout our lives, and it remains exciting each time we do. From navigating the Tree Gnome labyrinth to avoiding the confrontation with the giants, or the thrill of the enormous XP payout at the finish line, every Old School enthusiast will recall rushing through this quest as swiftly as possible.
For those who typically dislike completing quests, this one is an absolute essential. However, be mindful that if you fail to put the urn in its final location, you’ll need to obtain another amulet from scratch.
I learned this the hard way.

Darkness of Hallowvale
Don’t Make Me Go Through The Maze Again

Step into the haunting landscapes of Morytania – a place shrouded in darkness and gloom, teeming with fearsome creatures that might just give you a bite. Yet, there’s always room for adventure and excitement, isn’t there?
I mean, some poor souls spend their whole lives here, just ask Swampletics.
To be completely straightforward, what makes this journey memorable isn’t just the entertainment aspect, but the hardships we faced during our initial attempt, back when we didn’t have the Quest Helper tool to guide us.
The majority of us found ourselves pushing forward in Meiyerditch, relying on resilience and tenacity. To this very day, I’d prefer to avoid repeating that ordeal.
The exceptional aspect of this journey lies in the persistent sense of vulnerability you experience throughout its duration. You’re pitted against an entire region teeming with vampires and beasts, fighting alongside a small band of rebels to carve out existence amidst the wretchedness of blood taxes and cruelty.
The stakes are high, and victory seems infinitely out of reach. And still we fight.

Shield of Arrav
Joining A Gang… It’s For A Good Purpose, I Swear

Working with another human being. It’s not so simple a task, I can assure you.
Regardless of whether they’re newcomers or seasoned veterans, everyone will recall the challenge of locating a companion during this brief yet intricate mission.
As a devoted fan, I recall my initial epic adventure – the first quest accessible to all – where I was compelled to partner with another adventurer in search of the two fragments of the legendary Shield of Arrav. In my desperation, I sought assistance from a Black Arm Gang member, spending countless hours in pursuit, only to discover that I wasn’t alone in my quest. It seemed everyone had the same idea and flocked to join the Phoenix faction.
Initially, it might have appeared unusual, but collaborating with a complete stranger to achieve a common goal simultaneously turned out to be an extraordinary experience. Even though one of you may not be online anymore, the shared recollection of this event will remain.
7.
One Small Favour
Small Means Something Different For Everyone

It’s just one small favour, alright? It won’t take you much time at all!
To fulfill this task, you need to gather logs for a resident of Shilo Village. However, to acquire these logs, you’ll first need to obtain an item for someone else. And guess what? To secure that item, you’ll initially have to find something else.
You can see where I’m going with this, right?
In this game, you’ll be compelled to circumnavigate all of Gielinor, accomplishing various errands for people you barely have acquaintance with. Once you believe you’ve completed everything, you’ll need to retrace your steps and deliver every single item. Along the way, rock monsters and gangs will hinder your progress, and by the end of it all, the reward might not even quell your mounting frustration.
Despite the challenge being designed to torment us, I retain warm recollections of finishing this quest. For numerous veteran players, it’s considered a significant milestone in their gaming journey.
Let’s just hope Jagex never makes “Another Small Favour.”
6.
Underground Pass
Once You’re In, You May Never Get Out

If you’re just starting your Old School RuneScape adventure, this quest might seem like an obstacle that prevents you from progressing further in the game. However, instead of delaying it, take the plunge and perhaps, if fortune favors you, you’ll find yourself enjoying the experience.
In your journey, you’ll traverse a vast subterranean labyrinth teeming with pitfalls and pesky adversaries. Your destination: the realm of the Elves situated beyond its expanse. However, it’s challenging to convey just how immense this subterranean passage truly is.
If you leave something behind, you’ll need to return to the bank for another go at getting it.
As a gamer, I find myself in a bleak world where I’m not just killing innocent unicorns, but also navigating treacherous jumps with slim chances of success, dodging terrifying spiders, and sneaking past the soulless to steal their valuables. It’s a harrowing journey that somehow manages to pull me in despite its grimness.
In time, once you’ve reached the other end, the sunlight will surely bring a smile to your face.
5.
Cook’s Assistant
This Is Where The Fun Begins

It would be wonderful to start anew and discover Lumbridge once more, without the need to finish tedious 100-hour tasks, nor worry about defeating bosses or fulfilling Elite diary prerequisites. Instead, I’d simply enjoy the world, waiting to be unveiled.
For most players, The Cook’s Assistant serves as their initial foray into questing within Old School RuneScape. Despite being relatively simple, this is part of its endearing appeal.
You’re tasked with gathering essential items for the baker to prepare a cake. These include milk freshly produced by cows, eggs laid by hens, and a bin filled with freshly milled flour.
Beyond just being swiftly completed, this adventure provides an extensive tour of Old School RuneScape’s initial region, offering suggestions for potential future actions. During your journey, you might encounter fellow beginners who are busy slaughtering cows or goblins.
4.
Recipe for Disaster
Snakes Stuffed with Nuts and Bananas

It seems like you believe that’s all there is to it – you’ve baked a cake, and you think the task is done? I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but what you’ve accomplished so far is merely the start of the journey.
In reality, this was the 100th adventure in Runescape, and it paid tribute to the Cook’s Assistant. This main quest is divided into 8 smaller tasks, where you must prepare a unique dish for each of the Duke’s visitors and vanquish the wicked Culinaromancer.
Absolutely, these recipes aren’t straightforward. The difficulty level for each quest spans from very easy to quite challenging, and the number of Quest points required to successfully finish this mammoth task might leave you puzzled.
Indeed, this adventure maintains a playful and amusing tone throughout, filled with numerous humorous instances and preposterous culinary-based adversaries to vanquish. And as a reward for your triumph, the Barrows Gloves you acquire will be an enduring companion throughout your Old School RuneScape journey.
3.
Monkey Madness
Well, I’ll Be A Monkey’s Uncle…

Have you ever dreamed about being a monkey at any point? Not interested? Regretfully, that’s not an option for you if you desire the Dragon Scimitar. Instead, you’ll need to craft a Greegree yourself.
On this epic journey, you’ll escape from Monkey Prison on numerous occasions, navigate crumbling caves, assume the form of a monkey, and ultimately vanquish a colossal Green Jungle Behemoth.
In Old School RuneScape (OSRS), this story has long been considered one of its toughest, demanding rather substantial stats and problem-solving skills. Previously, when there was no sequel, it represented one of the most significant challenges.
For the unready, death may persistently encounter you as you strive to endure on the merciless Ape Atoll.
Don’t worry, because the rewards are truly exceptional. You’ll earn a magnificent scimitar and a heap of XP for your hard work.
This version maintains the original sentiment while using more common and easier-to-understand language.
Oh, and you can do Monkey Agility too! What’s not to love?
2.
Dragon Slayer
Have You Spoken To Oziach Yet?

Elvarg, the terrifying Dragon, is a formidable obstacle for all Free-to-Play gamers, serving as their ultimate test before they can enter the realm reserved for members.
As an ardent player of Old School RuneScape (OSRS), I can attest that achieving the initial significant goal against the formidable Draconic Dreadnought is no small feat, especially for those who play without premium membership. The sheer might and resilience of this dragon-like adversary make it a challenging quest indeed!
Absolutely, there are several factors that make this grand adventure stand out. From the confounding labyrinth of Melzar’s Maze to the peculiar puzzles and the breathtaking scenes displaying Elvarg at her best.
Clad in Rune armor, with an Anti-Dragonshield gripped tightly, you brave the core of Karamja’s volcano to confront a fearsome dragon within its den. It promises to be an exhilarating battle, and if victorious, you’ll find yourself feasting on lobsters like never before.
It’s great news! You’ve been richly compensated with the magnificent Rune Platebody and a hefty dose of XP. However, to finish Dragon Slayer 2, further training will be necessary.
1.
Desert Treasure
Brave The Shifting Sands, and The Magick That Lies Within

From where to start? A remarkable soundtrack, intelligent leaders, breathtaking landscapes, and prizes that fundamentally alter the game’s structure – these were just some of the elements that made Desert Treasure stand out as a groundbreaking adventure in Old School RuneScape (OSRS). This quest served as a demonstration of the incredible potential of OSRS quest design when executed skillfully.
In this adventure, you’ll be venturing far and wide – from the dense Morytanian Swamps, up to the icy peaks of the Frozen Mountaintops, winding through eerie subterranean passages, and braving the ominous pyramids in the heart of the Kharidian Desert. Along your journey, a relentless assassin will pursue you, as you scramble to gather precious diamonds before this foe can reclaim them.
The quality of this theme is exceptional, and its complexity follows suit. Every diamond-guarding boss is formidable and promises a tough challenge. Even the surroundings pose a danger.
With courage in your heart, you face every challenge and are welcomed by the legendary Mahjarrat, Azzanadra. As a token of his esteem, he bestows upon you a potent staff and the ancient magic’s might: a fresh Spellbook filled with game-altering abilities that hold immense power.
Any magic practitioner should prioritize completing this quest once they’ve achieved the necessary skill level. Equipped with the potency of Ancient Magic, you’ll be virtually invincible.
