As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that in the upcoming release of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, characters will have significantly more dialogue compared to the initial version. Slated for launch on PC and consoles in September, this extended remaster is set to enhance the beloved tactical game by incorporating numerous useful quality-of-life updates and advancements. These improvements aim to make the game more accessible and enjoyable for modern players like us.
Introduced in North America back in 1998, the game titled “Final Fantasy Tactics” marked the beginning of the “Tactics” series and has since gained a dedicated cult following, often hailed as one of the best games ever produced. The enthusiastic response to the announcement of a remastered version during the June 2025 State of Play event was tempered, though, when it was confirmed that certain content from the game would not be included in the new release. Specifically, this excludes parts from “The War of the Lions“, the 2007 PSP version’s additional in-game cutscenes and characters. Nevertheless, a fresh announcement might help alleviate concerns about the fate of “The Ivalice Chronicles” and its cherished characters.
In a recent interview on the official PlayStation Blog, the game director Kazutoyo Maehiro disclosed that certain Non-Player Characters (NPCs) in the remake of “Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles” will have more dialogue during battles. This addition aims to enrich the story and characters even more, addressing a common criticism about the original game where players felt there was not enough meaningful dialogue after recruiting characters to their party. As Maehiro stated, key characters like Agrias, Cid, and Mustadio will have a lot more to say during specific battles. Furthermore, it’s been confirmed that changes have been made to the script for “The Ivalice Chronicles” as writer Yasumi Matsuno recently announced that some adjustments were made to accommodate the game’s new addition of voice acting.
Characters in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Will Have More Dialogue
Although numerous enthusiasts of this classic game are excited about the remaster’s arrival, some were dismayed to discover that the Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Collector’s Edition doesn’t contain the actual game, only various desirable extras. This costly edition is temporarily unavailable for purchase, but fans can still pre-order a physical or digital version of the game before its scheduled launch on September 30.
If the game receives favorable feedback and manages to sell a sufficient number of copies, Maehiro suggests that we might see additional versions of the classic game “Final Fantasy Tactics” in the future. Despite being nearly 30 years old, the game remains enchanting for its fans, with many original players from 1998 eagerly anticipating that the game’s captivating storyline, memorable characters, and distinctive gameplay will win over newer gamers when it is released later this year.
