Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s Latest Updates Could Foretell Updates for One Other Ubisoft Game

For approximately two years, enthusiasts of the blockbuster film series “Avatar” have been granted the opportunity to delve into the alien landscape of Pandora through Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment’s open-world, action-adventure game, “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.” Launched in December 2023, a year following the release of “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora” has experienced two significant updates, which took the form of two DLC expansions, The Sky Breaker and Secrets of the Spires. However, come December, this game is set to undergo a substantial, fan-demanded update that could possibly hint at future updates for another Massive Entertainment project, “Star Wars Outlaws.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s Upcoming Update Explained

In the game titled “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora“, players encounter a variety of gameplay elements, such as engaging in combat with RDA operatives and Pandoran creatures using guns, spears, or even riding Direhorses and Ikrans into battle across the diverse terrains of Pandora. The core gameplay of “Frontiers of Pandora” revolves around first-person combat, but switches to a third-person perspective when players are on mounts like Direhorses and Ikrans. Frequent requests from fans have been made for Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment to incorporate an option that allows players to switch between third-person and first-person perspectives during standard movements and combat, as opposed to restricting the viewpoint solely to mount rides.

On Friday, December 5, Massive Entertainment will roll out a free update for their game Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. This update includes a third-person perspective mode for standard movements, providing players with a fresh viewpoint of Pandora at the press of a button. To make this upgrade seamless, Massive Entertainment is tweaking certain control settings, animations, and camera systems within Frontiers of Pandora. Additionally, they’re introducing a New Game Plus feature, allowing gamers to replay the campaign with their previous inventories, skills, tougher enemies, and an additional skill tree and gear.

Star Wars Outlaws’ Potential Future Updates

It’s possible that Massive Entertainment might roll out an update similar to the new third-person perspective and New Game Plus mode for their recent open-world game, Star Wars Outlaws, following the release of these features for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Both games received mixed reviews, but it’s worth noting that Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot deemed Star Wars Outlaws a financial failure.

Although the sales figures for Outlaws fell short of expectations, it has continued to garner interest from both Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment since its August 2024 release. Notably, they have released two DLC expansions, reminiscent of Frontiers of Pandora, namely Wild Card and A Pirate’s Fortune. Furthermore, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment are planning to introduce a Nintendo Switch 2 port of Star Wars Outlaws in September.

Although Star Wars Outlaws may not boast as large or an actively thriving player base as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, it continues to attract loyal fans, particularly those anticipating its release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Unlike Frontiers of Pandora, Star Wars Outlaws is a third-person game, but Massive Entertainment could introduce a first-person mode, enhancing player accuracy against rival gangs and enabling natural control of the Trailblazer as Kay Vess. Additionally, while Star Wars Outlaws currently lacks a New Game Plus feature, Massive Entertainment might consider adding it to allow players an easy replay of Kay Vess’ narrative, potentially introducing new enemies, weapons, and cosmetics.

Predicting the Release Window for Future Star Wars Outlaws Updates

Compared to how long it’s been since Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora celebrated its second anniversary, Star Wars Outlaws is still approaching its first. This means Massive Entertainment might not introduce a first-person perspective or New Game Plus mode until they have more information about player reactions to the updates for Avatar. If both fan reception and sales of Star Wars Outlaws on the Nintendo Switch 2 are positive, Massive Entertainment might start working on a first-person update for Outlaws in late 2025. Instead of waiting for the game’s near two-year anniversary to introduce this update, they could choose to release it around the same time as The Mandalorian and Grogu’s May 2026 theatrical release, aiming to re-attract old fans and draw in new ones.
