Borderlands 4 is slated for release on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 3, which is a month following its initial launch on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on September 12. Initially, the developers at Gearbox Software had indicated that the game, being a looter shooter, wouldn’t be available on the Nintendo console simultaneously with other major platforms. Instead, they hinted at a release window in late 2025. However, now that an official date has been announced for early October, Switch 2 players who are Vault Hunters will need to exercise patience and wait slightly longer compared to their counterparts on other consoles before joining their friends in the game.

It’s possible that the delayed launch date for the Switch 2 version of the game is because Borderlands 4 needs advanced hardware to run efficiently. The minimum requirements, which include an 8-core CPU and a GPU with at least 8GB of video memory, are quite demanding. Since more than half of Steam users are still using PCs with six or fewer cores, many players may need to upgrade their systems in order to play Borderlands 4. Unfortunately, the original Nintendo Switch won’t be able to run this game at all, as it won’t be released for that console.

On Twitter, Gearbox Software revealed that Borderlands 4 is scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 3rd. Since players on other consoles have had a one-month advantage, the later release date of Switch 2 could strain Borderlands 4’s balancing features as new characters join those who are more experienced, better-equipped, and at higher levels. Ideally, the scaling in co-op for the new game will be similar to that of Borderlands 3, which adjusted enemies and loot based on each player’s individual level.
