The highly anticipated Wuyang hero trial for Overwatch 2 has been set from August 14 to August 18. Players will get an early chance to experience the upcoming support hero in Overwatch 2, approximately a week before its launch in Season 18.
At the Overwatch 2 Highlight event, Blizzard unveiled two out of the three characters set for release in 2025: Freja, a frosty DPS bounty hunter, and Wuyang, a water-based support hero referred to as “Aqua”. Freja made her debut during Season 16 on April 22nd, while Wuyang is scheduled for introduction in Season 18 on August 26th.
Instead, fans will get an early taste of Wuyang a bit sooner than anticipated. During the blog post unveiling the mid-Season 17 update for Overwatch 2, Blizzard revealed that from August 14 to August 18, players can participate in a trial period with Wuyang, allowing them to test him out in casual game modes like Quick Play before his official launch. This also hints that fans might get a sneak peek at Wuyang’s complete set of abilities as early as August 11, or even earlier.

Though we’re still discovering all of Wuyang’s talents, Overwatch 2 has hinted at his playstyle. As per the latest blog post, Wuyang focuses on rhythm, disruption, and controlling flow with his abilities. He offers flexible healing, hybrid damage utility, and elegant movement. Moreover, it appears that mastering this hero will be challenging, much like Freja was earlier in the year, due to a primary fire that seems unique compared to other games of its kind.
As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled that Blizzard gave us a glimpse into Wuyang’s past in their recent announcement. This upcoming support hero seems to be a student at Wuxing University’s Water College and has a bit of a rebellious streak. With hints reminiscent of fellow Chinese scholar Mei from Overwatch 2 and the eco-renegade support hero Lifeweaver, it’s intriguing to speculate that his tale might intertwine with theirs. Regardless, we can anticipate uncovering more about his background around the same time as his full debut. If luck is on our side, he might even get a new short story or even an animated one!
After Wuyang’s arrival, another hero, speculated to be a female gladiator type character emphasizing melee combat, will be introduced in Overwatch 2 around 2025. This upcoming hero is currently enveloped in secrecy, but hints point towards her identity. Fans should not expect much information about this hero until Season 20, which is scheduled for late December, so they’ll have to wait several months for more details.
