Summary
- Madara summons meteorites with Tengai Shinsei, drawing them from Earth’s upper atmosphere.
- Tengai Shinsei likely uses Banshō Ten’in and requires the Rinnegan, related to the Six Paths Technique.
- The jutsu was never named in the manga or anime, only receiving a name in a Naruto Shippuden video game.
In the anime, Naruto Shippuden, Madara proved his true terrifying capabilities by summoning massive meteorites from the sky, which he then let fall upon his adversaries. Earlier, he had already been an extremely formidable danger, single-handedly confronting the Fourth Division. However, the situation began to balance out when Gaara, Ōnoki (the Third Tsuchikage), and one of Naruto’s shadow clones joined forces with the Fourth Division. Yet, even these three powerful ninja struggled against Madara’s immense strength once he initiated the meteorite attacks.
Is it clearly explained how Madara summons or creates meteorites? Are these meteorites perhaps illusions created through genjutsu, given the Uchiha’s reputation for their powerful Genjutsu abilities? If they are indeed real, does he generate them using chakra, or do they originate from somewhere else?
Tengai Shinsei
Madara’s Meteor Pulling Jutsu
In the world of Naruto, I’ve noticed that Madara wields a technique called Tengai Shinsei, or Shattered Heaven, which doesn’t create meteorites but rather draws them from the Earth’s upper atmosphere. The question arises as to why these massive space rocks seem to be hovering around our planet, given their size and proximity. One would expect such a phenomenon to be more noticeable in Naruto’s vast 700+ episode run, yet it remains unexplained. Therefore, I guess we should simply accept that there are indeed giant space rocks orbiting close to Earth in the Naruto universe, requiring a bit of suspension of disbelief.
A massive stone, too large to be overlooked, has landed on Fourth Company’s battleground! This was reported by Inoichi Yamanaka from the Intelligence Division.
In the anime and manga, Madara utilizes a powerful jutsu called Tengai Shinsei, which he performs by executing three hand seals simultaneously with both his own hands and those of his Susanoo. This jutsu draws a meteorite from Earth’s upper atmosphere towards a location chosen by Madara. The destructive power of Tengai Shinsei was so immense that it even caused Madara’s own demise; however, he managed to survive due to having an immortal reanimated body. Although not explicitly stated in the series, it is speculated that Tengai Shinsei may be connected to the Deva Path of the Six Paths Technique. This connection is suggested by the Deva Path’s ability to manipulate attractive and repulsive forces, as demonstrated through its signature jutsus: Shinra Tensei (Almighty Push) and Banshō Ten’in (Universal Pull). It is believed that Tengai Shinsei employs the Banshō Ten’in or a similar force, enhanced by the Susanoo to pull massive meteorites from Earth’s upper atmosphere. At minimum, the use of Tengai Shinsei necessitates the Rinnegan, as Kabuto mentioned that the jutsu was related to the Sage of Six Paths’ power.
Did you know? The powerful technique known as Tengai Shinsei wasn’t explicitly named in the Naruto Shippuden manga or anime series. Instead, it was given its name in the game Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3, where Madara is a playable character and Tengai Shinsei is one of his ultimate moves.
Similar or Related Jutsu
Banshō Ten’in (Universal Pull)

It’s worth mentioning that Tengai Shinsei has the ability to manipulate meteorites in orbit using the jutsu Banshō Ten’in. This technique, bestowed by the Deva Path, harnesses attractive forces to draw objects towards the user. The user can select which objects or individuals are influenced by the Banshō Ten’in, meaning an item directly touching a target could remain untouched if the user desires it. However, there is a five-second wait period between uses, much like the Shinra Tensei. Since it relies on the Deva Path from the Six Paths Technique, this move can only be used by those with a Rinnegan eye; one needs only look to Nagato (also known as Pain) as an example of its use.
Chibaku Tensei (Planetary Devastation)

The Chibaku Tensei technique forms a black orb that attracts nearby objects, often amassing a huge pile of rubble. This jutsu is typically employed to immobilize an adversary by trapping them within the chaotic mix of rocks, debris, and whatever else it encompasses. Yet, Madara employs it uniquely; instead of confining enemies, he hurls the solidified rock spheres at his foes, much like his Tengai Shinsei technique.
Jutsu That Only Appear in the Naruto Video Games

In the anime and manga of Tengai Shinsei, there aren’t any direct variations. However, some differences have emerged in the Naruto video games. It makes sense since these games were the ones to coin its name initially. Here are the different versions of Tengai Shinsei that have appeared over time.
- Tensō Tsuisei (Heavenly Insertion Hammering Star) – Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution – Team Ultimate Jutsu between Obito Uchiha and Madara Uchiha
- Tengai Shinsei: Sen (Shattered Heaven: Pierce) – Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 – one of Madara Uchiha’s ninjutsu in his awakened Susanoo form
- Rinbo: Tengai Shinsei (Limbo: Tengai Shinsei) – Naruto x Boruto: Ninja Voltage – one of Madara Uchiha’s Ultimate Jutsu
- Tenhōjimetsu – Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections – Team Ultimate Jutsu between Indra Otsutsuki, Madara Uchiha, and Sasuke Uchiha.
Naruto Shippuden is now available to stream on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
