‘Not Even Close to Accurate’ Stranger Things Creator Disappoints Fans by Debunking Major Season 5 Leak

Ross Duffer, the creator of the hit series “Stranger Things”, has popped the speculation among fans about the episode runtimes for season 5. Contrary to a popular rumor, viewers won’t be settling in for extended movie-like watch parties every episode. Originally premiering on Netflix in 2016, “Stranger Things” quickly gained and sustained popularity throughout seasons 2 to 4. Set in the 80s with an “Dungeons & Dragons”-inspired aesthetic, the story follows a group of kids from the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, who get embroiled in a sinister human experimentation scandal that opens up the terrifying Upside Down dimension filled with dangerous creatures.

As a devoted fan of Stranger Things, I eagerly anticipate the return of Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, and many others when the show comes back for its fifth season. The later seasons introduced exciting new characters like Maya Hawke as Robin and Joseph Quinn’s beloved Eddie Munson. With hopes that all our beloved characters make it through the final battle against Jamie Campbell Bower’s formidable villain, Vecna, I can hardly wait until November. In the meantime, I’m thrilled to know that Stranger Things has broken another Netflix record with its audience impressions, demonstrating that the show’s popularity remains unshaken after a three-year hiatus following the cliffhanger in season 4.

Stranger Things Showrunner Shuts Down Season 5’s “Film-Length” Episode Runtimes

Shared on Instagram Stories (thanks What’s On Netflix), Duffer posted a sneak peek of the alleged durations for season 5 episodes, hinting at around two-hour-long episodes with a three-hour finale. “Ha! Not even close to accurate,” was Duffer’s caption, dampening fans’ anticipation built around cinematic expectations. The runtime speculation emerged after star Finn Wolfhard mentioned that season 5 would have ‘film-length’ episodes, which excited the fanbase. However, Duffer’s correction might lead fans to fret over the final season feeling hurriedly wrapped up. It is essential to remember that Netflix has yet to officially confirm the runtime of each episode in season 5. Although it’s likely that the final episode will be extended to offer closure, the last bike ride scene may be divided into three parts to extend our farewells.

Fans of the series Stranger Things initially expressed joy about the extended runtimes and were relieved that the final season would be longer. After the season 5 trailer was released, the fanbase mainly had positive comments while shedding tears over their breakfast cereal, gradually understanding that the epic story that spanned nearly a decade was nearing its conclusion. One common criticism that circulated on Reddit involved fans making fun of Vecna’s design and even comparing the villain’s prosthetic costume to the Grinch. Overall, viewers continue to be amazed by the show’s outstanding visuals, humor, and character development, and most are eagerly anticipating how the story will conclude.

In the upcoming fifth season of Stranger Things, a change from a traditional filmmaking approach is expected. Instead of Shawn Levy continuing his lead role in directing, other distinguished directors will handle different episodes for the grand finale. Notably, Frank Darabont, known for his work on horror classics like A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 and Stephen King adaptations such as The Green Mile and The Mist, will be stepping up to direct some episodes. Additionally, the Duffer Brothers themselves are also set to take turns in the director’s chair.

Stranger Things season 5 volume 1 is scheduled to be released on November 26, 2025, on Netflix.
